Wait a sec...

Wasn't "Nigel" and "Gibson" the names of the 2 British guys who attacked the Maddie Hayes in Episode 2? How can 2 fiddler crabs fire cannons when they haven't even mastered walking straight? The laws of physics forbid such things.

Also, this treasure is buried on a beach somewhere. Must be. Most of NYC is commercial and residential. Not taking a shovel and other spelunking equipment to Citicorp Plaza or Aunt Fanny's over on Pishaw Lake Road. And it ain't buried in a park. Parks Department will issue you a nice summons if they catch you. Also gotta realize the thing was buried in November of 2009. Mother Earth would've done a nice job of crushing that box by now.

Other notable gorillas include Donkey Kong and Gorilla Grodd from DC Comics. Other than that, I got nothin lol

DISCUSS!!!

I don't think it's an angel. I think it's a male saint, very likely John the Baptist. I think he is frequently the one that gets a cross in depictions. I'll try to run this down though.

I'm not positive, but I don't think saints are usually depicted with wings. Does anyone know?

No, saints aren't depicted with wings. I keep thinking this must be someones tombstone, which wouldn't be readily available via Google.

fleur-de-lis tattoo
may be homage to live and online card tournament group

Someone notes the fleur-de-lis that muscled pirate is pointing to on his arm.

FWIW, is the fleur-de-lis the symbol of the Cornwall ( a county in the UK ) poke her tournament?

They have both live and online poke her.

If so, rather than an important substantive clue, it might just be what we think of paying homage.

I would provide the URL to the Cornwall Poke Her Tournament but the spam filter won't post any comment with the word for the game that rhymes with joker.

Not from a guest, anyway. I have no problem saying the word poker.

Workout [S]kit

There is a "hidden" S in the advertisement below the K in WORKOUT and to the left of the K in KIT. It is clearly a typeset S, not just a random wavy line. It is connected to the double incomplete circle that connects to an envelope on the other end of the line.

That would turn WORKOUT KIT into WORKOUT SKIT. Note that Mulligan says "That can't be the whole skit. Unless that's the whole skit, and then I guess it can" Unfortunately, there are hundreds of workout skits on youtube and such, most pretty lame. I don't immediately see one that is relevant.

Does anyone know of a particular workout skit, maybe SNL or something, that is well-known? Or care to wade through the pile of them to find the right one?

The double circle might be something too, besides just a way to obscure the S.

Another snake idea

The snake and it being chopped into bits reminds me of the colonial-era (1754) cartoon depicting the colonies as pieces of a snake with the caption "Join or Die!", by Benjamin Franklin. This echoes with Tom's statement about destiny and being one. Originally the cartoon was printed in support of the idea of all the colonies acting together against the French in the French and Indian war. Later it was used in the revolutionary era as a symbol of uniting against the British.

so would that mean our pirates were fighting their disunity and becoming one?

Before final hand:

Captain = $1869

I'm a little behind, so I've just finally watched the poker game episode. Just wanted to brainstorm a little over any possible significance to these numbers.

The "1337" I think is the most obvious--it's probably "LEET."

"1984" was a fun year. Big Brother ruled the world, Reagan was reelected, the Summer Olympics took place in LA, and Ghostbusters came out in theaters.

"1869" - The American Museum of Natural History in NYC was founded.

$4810 probably just rounds things out.

The other thing that stood out to me in this episode was the music playing while the skull in the table was revealed. I hoped the notes were going to spell something out, so I figured them out. I didn't get anything out of it, but since I wasted a little time doing it, I may as well share it. Hell, it would've helped The Goonies.

I wonder if there is any thing to be found by combining the "verbalized" esclamations given in the comix print:

Much like "1337", "UALUEALUEALUEALE" is another internet reference/meme. It may predate this, but YTMND was the first place I'd ever seen it: http://ualuealuealeuale.ytmnd.com/

The other two... no idea Smile

Thanks Rollie

Saved me a lot of time on the UALUEALUEALUEALE.

Another odd word Mulligan uses, HNUF, has lots and lots of googlehits, but few mean anything. One is a character in a Norse saga, one is Basil Hnuf, whose Facebook page is in Hebrew, though he does list Texas Hold 'Em as one of his hobbies. There is also a Hnuf Nuf on Facebook, no details.

fleur

I always think of New Orleans with gold and Fleur-de-lis and Saints and graves. See one of their logos:
