Good catch.

I was thinking about going to buy a metal detector for when or if I ever have an idea of where the treasure is...do you guys tink it's necessary? Or do you think that when you find the spot there will be something indicating exactly where to dig?

Re: Episode 3 Doubts

I still don't think the colors of the squares they are in refer to lines, but only to the seats of the subway. As if to show that the pirates are currently riding the subway when they are being interviewed.

I am trying to figure out which train lines have those colors. (I think it might only be the B and D), which narrows the train possibilities.

I also don't know about Cortlandt being the correct stop. First, it is not spelled properly, and the pirates have made no mention of making a mistake (which they did when we couldn't understand "48 armies."). Also since the "R" is missing from "Cental Park" and there's an extra "0" in 10,0000, these seem like purposeful clues.

Also Cortlandt, from my knowledge at least, does not allow for only 4 cars.

I have one theory that support the pirates going in multiple directions, which is sparked on by Larry saying "These days, pirates are all over the place." Maybe just a random line, but it could be supportive.

Finally, what do you guys think

If anyone gets any further because of this info, please return the favor and help a lost solo player out. I know some of these ideas are different, but they still seem more rationale than some of the super-complicated solutions that have been thrown around so far.

Those are some good points. Wel,l I guess I'll need to check Cortlandt. My friend use to live down in financial district and they were the ones who gave me the info. I know they have old stations like that, but now I can't say for certain that Cortlandt is one.Unless you've checked it, I'll post on here what I find. The B or D would have the old subway cars - and the go over the Manhattan bridge with the yellow lines and back underground in the dumbo-ish area.

I was thinking that the misspelled words/ numbers were a clue that cortlandt is misspelled. Kind of a 'Yeah we misspelled that, but we misspelled other words so why should that stop ye'

The idea that they split up did cross my mind - particularly because it would only really take 4 points to make an x on a map. I agree the solution is probably much simplier than anyone is thinking it is. Thanks for the points.

might be out of left field, but I'm investigating any correlation between Flushing Ave in Brooklyn, and how it passes the naval yard

If the pirates split up

Captain: Where do ya keep your treasure hoard Larry the King?
Captain: I think you're getting old, ya pillock.
Captain: And three: Ya best mind the gap in yer face! King of the Larrys!
Captain: Those be lies Lawrence. There be five docks [Camera switches back to splitscreen with the Captain's feed on the left side and the infographic on the right side. The infographic updates to show: 5. There are 5 docks at the Port of Cortland.] in the Port of Cortland.
Captain: Ha hah! You'll need more than a forked journalistic tongue to pry the secrets from a pirate, King Larry.
Captain: Arr. Incriminatin' it be Larry's King.
Captain: Which is why I brung pitchers of me own.
Captain: This pitcher first be Crothers in his fine blue hat, which I tells ya on accounts the pitcher bein' black and white.
This pitcher next be me lookin' at that hat, the hat bein' Crothers's. And this pitcher last be Crothers and his hat both on fire! The fire about which I'll tell ya nothing' 'cept who lit it be someone and that someone be me.
Captain: Ha har!
Captain: And this, be a pitcher of Tutty [sniffs], me only truest friend.
Captain: There ain't no such pitcher and there never will be!
*********
Mulligan: Oh, I can't believe it. I'm on TV! I'm on TV!
Larry King: Mr. Mulligan. Now you blatantly said [Camera switches to Mulligan and the Bird's feed.] Central Park. [Caption changes to read: BREAKING NEWS. WLGHD. Buried Treasure. Is it buried in Cental Park?] Is that where this alleged treasure is buried?

Camera switches to show all three pirate feeds above Larry King's feed. All the pirates pause for a beat they break into loud guffaws.

Mulligan: Let me ask you a question Mr. King. You're in the television business. Why did they cancel that show Firefly? That was a good show that was.
Mulligan: And four: There are four of us in our crew and I ain't never seen more than four docks in one port.

Infographic on right updates to show: 4. There are 4 in the crew. He's seen 4 docks.
Mulligan: But you can't see all them docks at the same time. That's all I'm sayin' Captain.
Mulligan: Aye and that's right, we did stole it from Glove and Boots!
Mulligan: Oh. Show 'em the picture of me in the crow's nest would ya?

**************
Larry King: Crothers, what are your thoughts on the fact that ten thousand dollars for the taking [Camera switches to show all three pirate feeds above Larry King's feed.] has people skeptical?

Camera switches to Crothers' feed and the caption changes to read: BREAKING NEWS. WLGHD. CROTHERS. CREWMEMBER - BRIGAND - ROUGHIAN.

Crothers: Hmmm. Spectacles is like face glasses they is.
Crothers: Why can't we say steal? [Caption changes to read: BREAKING NEWS. WLGHD. BURIED TREASURE. SOMEWHERE IN NEW YORK CITY.] We be pirates!

Okay. Richard Morris Hunt designed the base of the Statue of Liberty.

That's all I'm saying.

and oh yeah? You cannot go up to the torch anymore (crow's nest) since the BLACK TOM explosion of 1916.

Awhile ago, someone asked "Who is the 'friend' of 'Justice, Peace, Courage and Fortitude?". Would not that answer be Liberty? Since the top of the Maine Monument is ALSO Liberty?

Something to think about.

"Will some check and see if there's wood sticking out of me head." Kinda looks like an arm holding a torch no?

Original Torch

The original torch of the Statue of Liberty is on display in the visitor center of Liberty Park. It has 250 yellow glass panels. I'm also thinking about the crows nest getting hit by lightening. Would be like a torch.

The A, D, B, 1. The C has grey seats.

Statue of Liberty

Unless the pirates made a mistake, I think we can rule the Statue of Liberty out. Technically it isn't part of NYC or NYS for that matter. Jersey has it.

Yeah but the park where the original torch is, is in NY.

LOL! Trying to make a buck off of my failed attempt? But thanks for the heads up, why should I not bother? Quite a few of the clues fit nicely?

Make a buck?

Try "getting the bucks I spent back" Smile

I had a location in mind that would have been perfect for metal detecting. It was then that I found that metal detectors kind of are annoying and not very accurate. They beep at everything. I found copper cables, rebar, necklaces, pennies, keys and keychains, buttons, zippers, shoelace holes, cheap rings, paperclips, pen caps, loose grains of metal and shavings and a metal plate.

Also, most NYC parks are built up from reconstitued ground and dirt from OTHEr locations such as failed construction sites and landfill. That dirt has been churned and churned with whatever other crap is all up in there, so it's rich in iron, nickel and other metals. A normal clump of dirt can make the detector beep just for what it's made of.

What we NEED is a depth and chasm guage. It works like a fish finder and finds gaps/blocks and areas of interest underground and displays it on a laptop. It's cost? $9,995. I shit thee not.

So... if you just wanna win, and claim the reward of five bucks, go buy one Smile

Hey Prodigal!

I meant "don't bother buying a metal detector".

By all means, check out every location you think is legit for whatever reason you may have Smile
