I've gotta be at work in half an hour, but a couple of observations first.

Our "Rake/Jersey Devil" friend there is unlikely to be Slendy. Why? 1. No visual distortion when he crawls by. Slendy ALWAYS causes some sort of visible effect on cameras when he appears. (There was some sort of audio pickup, though....) 2. Vinny saw him immediately. Slendy tends to just stand there, and half the time those nearby don't even notice him (unless Slendy seems to want them to). So unless the MH guys caught him with his pants down (literally), I can't imagine him just happening to crawl by.

So if this "Rake" isn't Slendy, then who... or what... is it?

Also, there was something bright red near where our "Lambertville girl" was lying. I didn't get a good look at it at all. And was the final shot filmed by Evan? If so, what was wrong with his camera? Did he just leave the lens cap on, or....

Also, Evan? Fred wears an ascot. Sheesh.

I read this on my phone immediately after waking up this morning, and I hope you know, I seriously about cried. One of the most terrifying thoughts EVER.

Also, on the topic of "what the hell is that thing?": I am more inclined to believe it's the Rake than that it's some SlenderVictim gone mutant -- unless they are, in fact, one and the same. The only reason I'm so steadfast in that opinion is because music isn't exactly coincidental in the series, and with a title so blatantly pointing out a similar humanoid monster -- I don't think that can go ignored.

Badgerconda, compare the "Rake" creepypasta to the letter Jeff reads off in Reunion. Also, consider the Wooden Box used to house the first clue. Certainly you could play off the box as a coincidence, but the letter uses names and symbols that are far too similar (or even identical!) to the "Rake" myth to be unintentional.

I attempted to make these connections in my last post, but hopefully this is a little clearer.

EDIT: I keep forgetting about that, Dixie_wolf. Another good point, the music.

Well, I have 0 knowledge of the Rake... the song is striking though, it would have been more obvious if they played one The Rakes though. Razz

Also, the idea that we are made to see the videos is one that occurred early to me. It's almost as if they are "memories" shown to us, a direct stream-of-conscious of what the EMH guys are thinking - memories burned onto video.

After Logan went batshit crazy on Just Another Fool, his friend Josh tried to take over the blog. The last we ever heard from him was when he left to go identify Logan's body. Word of God is he's dead, but I dunno.

Well, that was terrifying.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I get the feeling that The Rake/Jersey Devil/Slender Dog is just a poor sap who went mad by the Slender Man's influence. He definitely has some of Slender Man's weird presence that screws up cameras. To add to this, either Slender Man mutated him into looking like him (and stripping him of whatever humanity he had) or he's just wearing a costume.

AH, THAT ONE. Laughing

Yeah, I remember, and yes, I remember the chat where the creator discussed it - he's dead I think. But there was also talk of a sequel (still waiting for/wondering about that one), and never say never, right? Wink

The Rake freaks me the hell out! The crawling guy at the end definitely reminds me of that story! God I love these guys!

As far as I know, it's another one from Something Awful, though it's older than Slendy.

This was my take on those things, too. I don't totally understand how The Rake (gonna stick with calling him that for now) is physically capable of writing notes and stuff but I just don't see the point in having him be another villain. I think he's EMH's Masky or ToTheArk, being creepy as hell but also trying to help.

I did fine the whole Dr. Cornhole or whatever thing really contrived. "Here's this girl we mentioned in passing once in a Ustream most people didn't watch. Oh btw her uncle is a super important character in the story! And his failed experiment Habit showed up 2 minutes after we introduced her! What are the odds!"

That's a minor gripe, though. The last few minutes more than made up for it and I definitely regretted checking the video 5 minutes before bed Shocked

Indeed. Embarassed Thanks for the link.

Why are those three so adorable, dammit. I hope they don't die too horribly.

So, basically, what happens:

- trip in the car. Vin, Jeff, Evan, and this Jessie girl. Hi Jessie!

They talk about everything that happened, and mention Damsel. They think she's stalking them. Jessie reveals she's related to dr. Corenthal - dun dun dun duuun!

They enthusiastically salute a Jessie in the 07/24/10 Ustream at 02:07 (seriously, they're too cute). Has somebody catched the nickname she used in the Ustream chat? Mistystar or something like that? There might be something to find there.

- arrive at the place.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambertville_High_School is supposed to be haunted, and it was twice gutted by fire. Seems appropriate enough for a mythos tie-in. The trip reports at Weird New Jersey http://www.weirdnj.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=97&Itemid=28 seem grounded more in myth than actual history, as these things often are, but they're still pretty cool.

One more link: http://www.lostdestinations.com/lambert3.htm Definitely the right place, Mattwan (check especially this tiny http://www.lostdestinations.com/lamb4.mpg video). Btw, do all child related buildings in Jersey are made of higly flammable materials? Very Happy Also, at 5:28, there's "Jeff" written on a wall - but it's probably a coincidence.

- they split. Jeff and Vin go one way, Evan and Jessie go another.

If it's the thing at 5:52, on fullscreen it looks clearly like a random satanist simbol.

- Jeff and Vin find the girl. No, Vin, that's not what you're supposed to do with bodies.

To me, the girl looked like Jessa, until I saw how Jeff reacted. Seen how he has been frantically looking for her for a while, he would have recognized her. They've gone some lenghts to hide her face, so I think her identity isn't supposed to be obvious ATM.

The cuts don't look self-inflicted to me. The red on the nails might be simple nail polish. The cuts don't look like they've been made with a weapon, anyway - more like claws. Jeff apologizing before taking the mysterious letter was a nicely done moment.

- White dude crawls. Brix are shat.

I like this theory so far. Could it be this thing is what's leaving them all those messages and boxes? At least the more weird and incoherent ones.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Wouldn't it be weird to insert another "monster" after getting so far with the Slenderman? Unless they're going for some huge Internet creepypasta crossover. I'm beginning to think they could pull it off.

- they catch up with Evan and Jessie, who were looking inside the building (that final segment, that's why it's so dark), and hightail out of the place and back to the car.

- they call the cops from the car or from home and point them to the place the body was, only to have the cops tell them it's gone (or they find out it's gone in some other way). I don't think the cops would have to question them, since they didn't find anything they probably thought it was a prank.

I want to ask these guys for a mixtape. I love their soundtrack. They should leave a last.fm link laying around somewhere as an easter egg or something, I'd be all over it.

For the record, while the second song was indeed "The Rake's Song," by the Decemberists, the song itself is not about an inhuman monster, but a very human one. Might be worth noting.

The first prominently featured song was "Cowboy Dan" by Modest Mouse, I think. Or something off their, "The Lonesome Crowded West" album.

The third song might have been "Nothing but Flowers" by the Talking Heads, but I can't tell.

The fourth song I know, but can't place.

The likelihood that these songs have some kind of significance? Eh, I give it 50/50. Playing nearly the entirety of "The Rake's Song," a song about the murder of children, in a Slendervid seems a little too on-the-nose to be meaningless. Then again, maybe they just think these are cool songs (they are).

After Jeff takes the note from the bodies hand.........is it just me, or are there no fingers? Are they just covered in blood?
