To me it looks like they're just covered in blood, but you can't really see because the camera pans really quickly towards Whitey. You might be right.

EDIT: Random thought. During the very last segment, the Evan and Jessie one, there's a moment in which the lights look a bit like an iris, like the one on the cover of that Danielewski book, Only Revolutions. It's probably just a trick of the lights, thought.

But what I really meant to say was: there's a rather straightforward way to know if those final seconds are "meant like that" or not, and it's asking the guys if they can see them. If they can't, there's something to find in there.

Also, has it been cleared if, during Sleep Lab 1, they could see the moments in the weird "shrine", or if it was another of those things for our eyes only? It's in a totally different tone from the rest. Maybe ask them for a list of all videos they published so far, and how long they are on their browsers? If they say their version of a video is shorter, we'll known that video was "manipulated" and to what extent.

In one of the sleep study videos, in the background theres a copy of wierd new jersey on a desk.

Hadn't heard of The Rake before this, but just read the story. One point of interest to further connect these two stories is the "Linnie" letter. In the original Rake story:

Quote:
A Suicide Note: 1964

As I prepare to take my life, I feel it necessary to assuage any guilt or pain I have introduced through this act. It is not the fault of anyone other than him. For once I awoke and felt his presence. And once I awoke and saw his form. Once again I awoke and heard his voice, and looked into his eyes. I cannot sleep without fear of what I might next awake to experience. I cannot ever wake. Goodbye.

Found in the same wooden box were two empty envelopes addressed to William and Rose, and one loose personal letter with no envelope.

'Dearest Linnie,
I have prayed for you. He spoke your name.'

Compared to the letter found by the boys in the Reunion vid:

Quote:
Who are you, my dear friend, who reached alone to me? I look forward to our reunion in Hell, otherwise I fear the warnings have fallen on deaf ears.

The sight of its black eyes, those markings, this blight is not human and now has claimed another one of us.

I'm sorry I was too late,
Linnie

I'd say that there's definitely a connection between these two stories here.

Child, thank you for clarifying further. I assumed in my last few posts that people were actively reading the Rake creepypasta, and so I thought the connections were obvious.

EDIT:
----------
Reading both letters, it seems like the one found in Reunion is actually a direct response to the letter from the creepypasta.

Not to mention the letters in the pasta were found in a wooden box, like I've already mentioned. Think about where we've seen one before.

I have the feeling it IS the Rake, but with some depth added to him. It's why I said in my first post concerning this white crawling entity that he could possibly be this ARG's "totheark" -- he could certainly be both things. The song supports the idea that this Rake is partially human-ish, at least, so leaving these clues isn't out of the question by any means.

Just wanted to make it concrete. I know when I read it through the first time I made the obvious connections (creepy naked guy, etc.) but it wasn't until I was on the subway about an hour later that I remembered the 'Linnie' connection. That vid was so long ago that I had forgotten that detail.

I still feel like, if anything, the similarity to the letter in 'reunion' is more of an homage than a direct link. I don't think the creature is meant to be 'the rake' though the guys might be taking some inspiration from it here and there.

Could be wrong, though.

Since no one named the correct song, I felt the sudden urge to post again.

The first song is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JEh5-PumRs (Alone Down there by Modest Mouse)

Damsel posted that video (and song) a while ago.

other than that I have nothing to add other than HOLLY CRAP Very Happy

And I do agree Nevnaan, it's kind of strange to bring in another... THING this late in the game.

So I'm beginning to wonder if Alex is definatley next on the slendy list....or whatever creature they're using now. He mentioned during our conversations that his dog barks at his bedroom window all night. Tonight he said he's tired because his dog wouldn't let him sleep last night. Said she was crying all night.

The more I think about it, the more I am in agreement with this line of thought. Yes, the song is about a man who marries young and is then widowed and left with three children, who he hates -- so he kills them. (Probably not important, but in a later song on the album -- "The Hazards of Love 3 (Revenge!)" -- the ghosts of his children come back to taunt him for his crimes, acting almost like a conscience.) So, while I still think the creature is intended to be the Rake, it could be that he was originally a depraved human who became a literal monster.

That's certainly another possibility, Gymen.

It sounds like Alex might be visited by one of our two horrors sometime soon. Probably in a video on his channel, documenting --

Holy fuck.

Quote:
I set up a digital recorder near my bed and left it running all night.

Directly from the Rake story.
If Alex does this and hears a strange screeching sound, or otherwise hears or sees this thing, I'm taking it as confirmation. Personally, I'm already convinced, but..

About The Rake's Song:
The story begins using the word "Rake" in the archaic sense. That is, a man who is very promiscuous and completely irresponsible. But the "Rake" in the song shifts from being simply disagreeable to totally monstrous. He kills his own children in order to free himself up for his next woman. The actual story of this song might not be related to EMH, but it's interesting, yeah?

It makes you wonder whether he was human at some point, though, you're right, Dixie. At least that could be pretty relevant.

Quick Edit: Looking at the lyrics for "Alone Down There," I'm even more convinced that this Rake is a masky/totheark type character.

Quote:
The Devil's apprentice he gave me some credit
He fed me a line and I'll probably regret it

As well as

Quote:
My name is you
Flies, they all gather around me and you too

Quote:
I don't want you to be alone down there

If we use the "2 of 7" labels from the boxes to gauge where we are in the story we are barely at the end of Act 1. Not too late at all. In fact the more I think about it the more right that feels. Act separations in classic story telling should come with a major turn... all the characters have been introduced, connections have been made between every one, all the major story elements have been introduced... I'd think the turn would be finally convincing Vince that they really are being threatened, something I don't think he can really deny after this. Now everyone is awake to the situation and we can move into Act 2...
