I'm still not really sure what to do with this series, though for some reason, watching his videos and TribeTwelve just decimates my browser.

It's awkward, but getting better.

I kind of liked the animated tentacles, and the Slendy silhouette is a pretty neat idea. (The way it was positioned relative to Jon's head, though, made me think reeeeally naughty things.)

I actually thought the silhouette looked vaguely female. Hard to say for sure but to me it looks like it has long hair and rather a large, sloping chest for a dude. Also makes some sense in the context of the audio that said "Save her" or whatever.

I attached a brightened-up screen grab.

Well, Overnight 2 reminded me Paranormal Activity. Well, except that the people in PA didn't wear cargo pants when sleeping in bed.

Also, at around 3:55, there's a hooded figure ...

I don't know, not really feeling this one.

Good points, Doc. I was thinking of the version of Slenders at the top of the first Victor Surge post, but I think you've got me convinced.

Eh, why is this guy copying Tribe Twelve? First the outside at night bit, then the night recording part...twice now. The tentacles too, but they looked ok I suppose. Tribe Twelve's tentacles nailed it for me in their Box Analysis video, however. It almost seems as if, ironically, this video series is a copy of a copy. TT copied MH, and now this one is copying TT. Pretty interesting evolution of the newer video series.

I don't know about you all out there, but I want original content! No more copies. Tribe Twelve did the right thing in their new videos, introducing original content that made up for the first MH imitation videos. Jonclubs seems to be doing nothing we haven't already seen. It's not a direct copy, but I really hope it gets better. For now, I'll wait before subbing. Confused

Not saying our old buddy Slendy isn't involved, since there are tentacles and weird distortions. But the shadow looks like something else.

Good catch. I guess it says something that I didn't even try to step through the distortion bit. I'm still not really feeling this one either. After EverymanHYBRID, a simple stalking isn't really enough.

I dunno, I think recording outside at night and overnight recordings are so natural to the Slenderman sub-genre that they don't really count as copying. What's bad is that Jon really hasn't done anything interesting with them. But the introduction of a masked figure...well, to my mind MH owns that particular bit of lore.

Eh I think it's just a distorted version of the shadow. Here they are side by side.

i dont get people going off about copying. this is how a slenderman thing goes. for me, when i watch a slender story, i dont focus on like... the physical of it. like oh my god they made the swing move this story automatically SUX THIS VIDEO MAKER IS A N00B

idk.... when i watch these. i focus more on the dude being stopped and how they are being mentally broken down by slenderman. sure, slenderman is freaking badass, but i think that the stalking part of it and making victims go crazy is the genius of it, because when people get cut or something they bleed the same way, but when they go crazy, that is the part that makes it intersting

(I'm bored waiting for dinner to finish cooking, I don't normally spam-refresh threads Wink)

It's a fine line. On the one hand, Slenderman is at least kind of an established character at this point. So if you go off and have him be 100% original people will at best be confused and at worst won't even understand that it's him. You wouldn't make a serious Batman fan video where he wore orange and drove a Hummer, and likewise at least SOME stuff like Slendy's suit and creepy stalking is gonna be a part of any story.

On the other hand if the story is "XYZ Vlog, Only Done Worse" it's uninteresting and pointless. The first ~6 entries of Tribe Twelve were near-clones of Marble Hornets, and I stopped caring until the last couple showed promise. To continue my horrible analogy, would you watch The Dark Knight again with the exact same plot but different actors and setting? No, it would suck.

The wild card is that no one has actually finished a Slendy vlog. Not even Marble Hornets, who invented the genre. This leaves a big opening for originality, and so far EverymanHYBRID is doing the best job of taking advantage, I think anyway. So I guess my advice to jonclubs would be to establish "yah it's Slenderman" and then go off in a new and interesting direction ASAP. Otherwise you end up like "my name is Zethyrs" or whatever and keep posting creepy videos that have no coherent plot or characters. Or find same say to tell us "no it isn't Slenderman I am doing my own thing" so we stop reading crap into his story that isn't intended Smile

Whew, that ended up being much more of a diatribe than I intended!
