P.O.V.? Who's PDP-11 are we viewing? During the slowness that is this game, I have been going back over some things .. One of which is trying to figure out who's remote view PDP-11 screen we are supposed to be seeing..
With the latest release of the MP3 file, it is worth noting that if this was Josh's terminal, why hasnt he commented on the EXPCNV sounds file or the RSCOM8 printouts that have been up for weeks? He has asked about the film which is NOT on the computer..and the CL ads which were also not on the computer.. It seems that Josh may not be seeing the folders on the desktop like we are..and he has admitted he is not a computer whiz.. We may be seeing Mysterioso's terminal, but all Josh seems to be seeing is the email-type printouts, of which the first was a message by Mysterioso.. Notice he only asks about the film he has.. not the tones or any other mention of anything to do with the PDP-11 Braegen 14 readouts..Indeed, the only time we seem to see anything new is when Mysterioso sends Josh a new message.,. we dont see the new ones whenever Josh replies as demonstrated by the last printout....
So, are we seeing Mysterioso's terminal, or is this someone new we havent met yet (Josh's dad?) observing all these developments watching to see if they get too close..??
What do y'all think? Does Josh even have a PDP 11 or is he just using some email program?

Josh is only receiving emails. The terminal owner may be shared. The RSCOM8 file seems to be a way of communicating in code with another person who is more aware of certain danger, while Josh seems to have no inkling of the danger he may be in.

Well, if this is true and he is only receiving emails, then the theory that the MP3 file was posted for Josh to see that he was "easy to find" dosent hold up since Josh cant access that file..
This helps sort out the recording .. not Mysterioso taping Josh asking for an energy drink to show how easy he is to find,... but who, what and why?

mp3 I think that we may be overthinking. When I listened to the mp3 track that "bing bing" noise bothered me. We think that it may be a noise coming from a door to the store to notify the clerk when someone enters. What if the "bing-bing" is a video camera? I have a video camera that makes the same noise when I hit record or stop. What if what we were listening to was Josh being video taped? Hence, they are looking in the wrong place but I can find you will be corroborated with a video at some time. Obviously he was close enough to record Josh. And assuming, he knows what Josh looks like. So what if this more of a warning to Josh? The pdp terminal is the open line between Josh and Mr X. Josh can access the pdp, that was why we could just open the mp3 file and not the expcnv.dat file. That file was not encrypted or hidden because it obviously was placed there to be found.

It would seem that Josh at some point (that we've not been made awre of) was contacted by Mysterio and told that the interface would be their means of communicating.
We haven't been made privy to private communications between Mysterio and Josh that led to the June 21 STIES printout and photo, but I can imagine a possible conversation where we have:
Mysterio asking, "So what exactly do you have that needs authentication; you mentioned 'footage?' By 'footage' do you mean old film that seems scary?"
Josh: "Exactly, it sounds like we're talking about the same thing. Is this real, and just what is it?"
Mysterio: "Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, if the leader of the film has hand -written writing in red ink, take a photo of one of the frames with writing on it and post it on the following site that has a private interface you and I can communicate on."
Josh realizes that he and Mysterio are talking about the same thing and asks: "OK what's this about."
Mysterio: "We'll continue our conversation at the site I directed you to."
Josh goes there, and we pick up the STIES conversation from there. Josh posts the photo, and so on.
Josh is probably my savvy with the computer than I am (which is not saying much for either of us). I didn't have a clue how to printout the newspaper or open the Braegen file. But, I knew enough to print the conversation and photo, and the mp3 file was doable for me.
So maybe if Mysterio is behind the console (and we're seeing what he sees), perhaps he knows what Josh will be able to understand how to do, and is keeping it at that level for him.
The fact that Josh has not made any comment about the Braegen file could either mean he is aware of its existence, or he's not. If he is, he either knows how to open it, or not.
My money's on Mysterio being behind the console.

Yes, perhaps Josh is about to find out this website - and hasn't yet? (Since the letters in the film projected and filmed by Josh were parts of the URL, but perhaps he didn't get it?)

It's deliberately impossible to tell, and depends on your POV. Going back to the very first message (Stop posting publicly....) which was triggered by Josh's actions on top 10 conspiracies, it's clear the PDP was a means to continue the conversation "off net". But it depends whether you believe the first message is a sent or received as to whose POV.
Another way of looking at the same intractable problem is the PDP is a stand-alone machine somewhere else that they can both access in some fashion, and upload stuff to. So we're effectively seeing both POVs as they continue this message via the PDP, and goes someway in explaining the extra files (Newspaper, Audios).
Speculation, speculation speculation......................

It's obviously "D. Morris"'s machine.

I don't think that the STIES website is how either of them are connecting to whatever machine this is supposedly remoted into. Think about it, there are only so many things that you can access, and there's no inputable user login to set permissions for some people to be able to send emails and upload files.
We can't upload files or respond to these messages through the site, all we can do is watch.
I think that maybe there is a possible third party that is using the PDP Sim to monitor the communications between Mysterio and Josh, and also, knows more about the subject, as can be proven with the other files that Josh and Mysterio have not spoken of.
So you have this other guy, call him THE MAN, and he's set up some kind of sniffer to monitor all communication between Mysterio and Josh. And it automatically sets the sim to print out the log of the communication upon login. Not too far-fetched I think.
This could possibly be the mastermind behind Rocket Poppeteers?

josh doesn't know about STIES Wah... twodten stole my thunder as i typed
I agree that Josh doesn't know about the STIES site. Especially since he watched the film, saw the webpage link at the end of the film (photographed it) and hasn't mentioned it yet. He knows enough about the Internet to search forums and post a blog, but he doesn't seem the person to understand what a remote session or simulator would be.
I don't think it's Mysterio's machine either as he's so bent on "not posting publicly." He/she wouldn't post in a way that we'd be able to find. There could be someone on the inside (in game) that wants us to find this stuff.. either to help Josh (his dad?) or maybe there could be a cross over from the movie into reality (fans in the movie).
So i'm going with Josh's Dad, the government, or someone that cracked into the gov's computers. (HA.. still going with his new supervisor, Sarah)

I don't really get what any of this ARG is about.
As far as I can see, there's three things going on at the moment:
1, STIES - which is a PDP-11 simulator (created and hosted on a website for reasons unknown?)
2, HookLineAndMinker - which is a blog about a guy looking for a fish (although we all *think* that we need this "fish" is actually a reference to an alien)
3, rocketpopeteers.com - which is, well.... what is it?? A fan club for Captain Coop Cooper?
I can kinda understand the link between 1 and 2. But what is rp.com all about???

We're not sure just how RP fits in, but we wouldn't be aware of RP (most likely) unless we had not found the newspaper ad posted on STIES.

When Cloverfield started out, we didn't get the exact tie between Slusho and anything else. The fact that it all tied together via Tagruato was pretty slick if you ask me. I would hope for no less this time around.

Yes, there were pretty many discussions whether Slusho is connected to Cloverfield, I can remember many battles around Cloverfield
After I changed from imdb forum to Unfiction I was glad that discussions here were more... ehm... polite

How does Josh know there has been an update on STIES? So, once again, I am confused about this..
How is Josh supposed to know that there has been an update to the PDP11 unless he has one?
The only way to access the new badges is to have access to this terminal..
but unless Josh is like us and checking every day how would he know to look for the new .dat files? The Mystic dude didnt post any alert about an update..and Josh hasnt posted anything on his blog in almost a month..
With the Braegen and Audio files, they were posted on the desktop so we could see them..
But what alert system is being used?
And if the Mystic Dude wanted Josh to find these new files, why dosent he tell him there is new stuff for him to look at?
There is something basic missing from this area it seems..
