furlongs

I know we still haven't decided exactly what episode 4 represents or where the clues apply, but I know that some people have been trying to relate it horse tracks. There used to be 2 tracks in the bronx. One was Jerome Park and the other was Morris Park. Jerome held the first ever Belmont, which was later transferred to Morris after Jerome was taken down to make room for the Jerome Park Reservoir, which provides the city with it's water. Later, Morris Park and Aeronautic Society of New York held the first public air show.

I was thinking about episode four and wondering if we left clue 28 in place and moved clue 41, 42 & 43 ahead with Crothers, and used Toms clue either in episode 3 or episode 6. I was trying to count my clues to see if clue 28 is really the 28th clue, then it would be in the right spot....and then amount of clues up to clue 40 then we would know where to put Crothers clues. I have counted 16 clues up to the end of episode 2 and have no idea what to use as a clues in episode 3. Has anyone made a list or counted?

If there is 16 in the first episode there would have to be 12 in episode 3 to add up to 28 by episode four. I thinking maybe I missed something as a clue in episode 1&2.

Another thought on this is that since Crothers is not shown when we see clue 42 is that we should have 42 clues at that time ??

Is there any possibility that we are to use the numbered Pirate Tips in the Captain's (as "sodoffbuggers") tweets?

I had a similar thought - they didn't post tip 40 until after the last vid

When fafa is in the top box and says how did we get up here, is this a clue, we're on the right track. I originally thought that meant the blue line heading north. But I do like the theory of going over a bridge, does that happen anywhere leading into the bronx? Maybe it may mean elevated tracks. I know the subway comes out of the ground for the bronx. Is it for all of the bronx or just some parts/lines? Also, does anyone know of places in Queens or Brooklyn that has elevated lines?

7 is elevated from Queensboro plaza east

I live in the Van Cortlandt Area. The 1 Train is above ground. The 9 train used to run the same route. 225th street is cut off between manhattan and the bronx on this side. I remember someone mentioning a statue near the cemetery? Are u referring to the General Josiah Porter (1830–1894) ? or the Tortoise and Hare statues in the Park?

Re: Mario and Fafa expressly reference "Lost" and DVC
and the puppeteers do through clues

"Why would these guys reference that? I just can't believe that they would, not the style at all. LOST was mass-market too, maybe, but I think DVC would really be beyond the pale. They certainly would not base any key points on it."

The book is a worldwide bestseller that sold 80 million copies as of 2009 and has been translated into 44 languages. This makes it, as of 2010, the best selling English language novel of the 21st century I think it qualifies as mass market.

JRC, have you watched the video where Mario and Fafa reference both the "Lost" numbers and the DaVinci code? When you call the Wyoming number in the comic, you get Lottery numbers ala Lost. Adding up to 18 rather than 108 on "Lost." The difference is you drop a "0". This seems in the nature of a clue of some sort.

Given the shadow-casting obelisks used to tell time (and there are 5 sundials including one hidden), I would say that "time" is the key and that "X" marks the spot for the reasons given. It may only be that if you have an Apple like the puppeteer/IT presumably guy does, that it ripples and enlarges.

In fact, I'll have to look back to see if the water bottle is actually a vinegar bottle. In DaVinci code the key word for the big cryptex, as I recall, was DREAM and CROSS. But I think if you failed vinegar would be released and the message destroyed.

Hey Spainard, You keep saying the lotto numbers add up to 18....can you please explain this?? Why are you dropping the zero?

Those #'s def add up to 108 just like Lost - idk why he keeps saying 18.. that be tutty's #

To me this suggests trains that run parallel (or at least nearly so) and nearby at some point and have stops that are very close to each other without using the same tunnel. For instance (these are all in Manhattan but there are likely some in the other boroughs --except mine, but I only use these as quick examples):
207th St (Inwood): A and #1 lines
South Ferry/Whitehall: R and #1 lines (Bowling Green 4-5 also not far)
Fulton St/B'way/Nassau: A-C/J-Z/2-3/4-5 lines
155th St: C and B-D lines

Ya I was thinking that is the best way for that part to make sense, but I still really feel that the Captain goes 2-7 to Flushing. I guess he could go back on the 7 rather than getting off and then head north.

Was it the 1 and 9 only on the same route? Does anyone know where we can get a subway map before they made all the changes? The cemetery is important for their final destination off the subway, at least for Mulligan and Crothers. The other 2 catch up to them in the cemetery. The statue that most people were referring to was the one of the angel holding the cross in the comic book. I felt like this was possibly Woodlawn Cemetery, right next to Van Cortlandt Park. I can't find that exact statue, but there seem to be a lot of angels with crosses in the particular cemetery.

Now I just need to find something with a giant snake or serpent relating to that area!

Thanks for that turtle sculpture find!! That is pretty interesting!

 Completed solution
end game

First some corrections to earlier episodes.
Episode 2:
CLUE:hoisting the flag we stole of a merchant vessel.
After the Chess & Checkers, they head to the Carousel. A carousel is a large ship.

CLUE:fire a cannonball o'er her bridge, south by southwest.
Head through the Hecksher ballfields (cannonball-fields) heading SSW. Towards the lampposts.

CLUE:Captain is crying over the cannonball killing tutty.
The captain is PINing over the cannonBALL.
Head to Pine ball arch.

Rest is fine.

Episode 6:
After the crew kill the serpent (GREEN Line),they reboard the subway. The captain and Crothers get on the BLUE line. and Black Tom and Mulligan board the orange line.

CLUE:The crew were on deck, and the ship was undreway.
The ORANGE line is crossing the manhattan bridge, however the BLUE line is going under the East river.

nobody gets of the subway ever.

Episode 4(6 Black tom):
CLUE:Crothers does not appear on 42.
Reverse 42 to get 24, 24 is not on Crothers BLUE line, so he doesnt appear.

Episode 8:
The orange and blue line remerge, so again everyone is together. But note the distinct diference between being on deck(BLUE) and below(ORANGE).This would be the vertical layout of the lines heading north here, blue above orange.. Whenever someone changes level they change metro lines too.

CLUE:Chanting.
Dolmus..etc.
They are passing the cathedral parkway.

CLUE:Home sweet home
They are travelling past Yankee stadium.

CLUE:except for the fire and pitchfork jabs.
The pitchfork jabs are the ORANGE line splitting into 3 twice along the line. The fire is burnside ave on the GREEN line.

CLUE:Mulligan runs away.
Mulligan leaves the orange line by going up on deck, the BLUE line. Then finally heads all the way along the BLUE line to the end an Rockaway Beach, this is the infamous crows nest.
If you look at the Subway map you can see the blue line split at the end, turn the map upside downand this becomes Mulligans crows nest.

CLUE:Mast gets hit by lightning.
The lightning strikes right on CONDUIT av, halfway up the crows nests mast on the BLUE line.

CLUE:Mulligan goes flying from the strike.
Mulligan goes flying, this is JFK airport he is flying over.

CLUE:see if theres wood sticking out of my head.
Crothers is on the orange line which ends in Norwood.

THE LOCATION.
CLUE:. Look for the flyin' bird, and follow his path. And stop on the ship. That's important too. Oh, but away from his nest.

If you colour in the enclosed spaces formed along the paths i have laid out for the pirates, you will find a SWAN. it will be pointing its beak along the red line at Columbus circle[upside down].
Now go to the very nearest station on the red line to the CROWS NEST(End of the blue line, mulligan was in it), following along away from the NEST you will come across the SARATOGA
SWAN is the FLYIN BIRD.
RED LINE is its PATH.
SARATOGA AV is the SHIP.
ROCKAWAY BEACH is the NEST.

All thats left is to dig up that brown patch of dirt next to the Subway stop.
(NB:Pennsylvania was also a ship, but Saratoga sounds more correct to me. actually a lot of these have ship names. Dig at the one most familiar to you.)

Actually, that crothers/parrot line sounds more like he is saying: START from the ship, head away from his nest. BIRD EGG.
Can someone walk along the red line with these ships, looking for a birdy or a bird egg to dig up. Could mean OVAL.

WAIT:X marks the spot!
The RED line crosses the L Line. Heading from PENSYLVANIA away from the NEST, the first thing you come to is the Junction where these 2 lines make an X.
