firefox, firefox beta, opera, ie8+beta chrome

the chatbubble with the hash in it showing with all

they also fixed the problem for european keyboard layouts where the :(doubledots) is on a different key than in the us - and it was not working for europeans

the : (doubledots) will be important to mount devices on systems like the pdp-11

bubble

I too am wondering why I cannot see it. Running Win7 Pro with EI8.What browser are you using to see this? I tried clearing my cache but still nothing. I noticed that the "arrow" button you are referring to in your pic is facing the opposite to what I see. I must be missing a step somwhere.

Simplicityjones;

You said:

"Those of you who can see the chat icon did you also get the RP email?"

Can't speak for eveyone, but I got the snail mail and signed--my dog didn't send in his snail mail, so had to sign on through the site--we both got our emails, though I had to help him with some of the statements on the form.

I wasn't able to see the chat icon prior to midnight, but his a.m. refreshed and made sure I clicked on the bottom left arrow (that gramma illustrated) and it popped up.

lets read this together http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_symbol

I checked your wikipedia link. Don't have much time now but noticed the following from the Computing section has another link to 'magic number', which has some info re: UNIX, pdp-11s, memory protection, etc.

From wikipedia Hash_symbol link:
"In many scripting languages and data file formats, especially ones that originated on Unix, the # introduces a comment that goes to the end of the line. The combination #! at the start of an executable file is a "shebang" or "hash-bang", used to tell the operating system which program to use to run the script (see magic number). This combination was chosen so it would be a comment in the scripting languages."

Link to wikipedia Magic number (go to magic number (programming) link from here.

Chat Bubble

When I went to the site, I couldn't see it. I clicked the left arrow and it appeared. It doesn't do anything for me. Just here the same sound that the others make. I have not received an email from RP nor did I do the snail mail. I've just been kind of following along. I'm on an older computer at work. Not even using windows XP.

Yes I'm using a Mac and the icon is appearing. However, it didn't appear on my PC at work so it may be related to IP address.

Why can't I see the icon

I have clicked until my fingers hurt. I cannot get the button to come up. I emptied the cache and temp files. I reentered the print rscom8, exec expcnv and did the dektop/br14/.dat and listened to the sounds again. I was thining that maybe I needed cached to move on. But I cant get it to open. This is frustrating. Is anyone else having this issue?

Re: Why can't I see the icon

I'm on a mac right now and I've also tried with emptying the cache memory several times, returned to sties, and clicking the button, but it still won't appear.

Strange how these things happen.. I have been wondering why there was a gap in the icon lineup since the beginning.. Now we know..

Still no joy here..

It may be a firewall issue. I haven't been able to try at home yet, but can't get it at work. In Firefox, the browser sticks at "Transferring data from" and never downloads whatever it is.

The icon

The icon for me also didn't show - emptied cache, etc... couldn't click on the little arrow - did nothing. This was the error the page displayed:

I disabled a plugin called Fire Shot (takes screen captures) and rebooted and now it works. I still get the error on the page, but now I can click the little arrow and the chat bubble apears.

I am using IE8 on WinXP SP3

ETA: Forget it! Seems intermittent now. Just tried again and did NOT work. So guess it's not the plugin. Dunno
