Yeah give me a couple of hours (I just got home) to eat and make a quickie website to help co-ordinate this. But I have to say a London/UK thread would be very helpful.
I'm also going to try and get as many people to help as aI can as there are a LOT of phones to cover. The Axon is dead centre in the middle of London.

Any side street addresses you want me to try?

Take a look at the urban 75 panorama and you'll see why that doesn't help too much. Please don't get me wrong here, we appreciate the effort so please don't be offended or disheartened.
Soho is a maze of lots of streets, lots of shops, lots of restaurants, cafes, pubs, theatres and it's right next to ChinaTown. So basically you've got the old Red-Light district, Broadway, ChinaTown and much much more. All in a very small area.
We were'nt kidding when we said 20 phones in the area - in fact I'd say it's about 35 counting in-store payphones within a 25 meter radius.
An awful lot depends on the GPS accuracy and the method used to select this spot.
I'll have photos up very soon.

Having scanned that list of coords, the only one that's even remotely close in both latitude and longitude is

57 Dean St, London W1D 5 (51.5127027390621,-0.131850211861764)

Having run this address through the Royal Mail's postcode finder, it tells me that the address of
57 Dean Street
London
W1D 6AH

is actually a block of 20 flats known as Chancel Court.

There is also another address brought up, which is:

Jacky Li London Hairdresser
57a Dean Street
London
W1D 6AJ

I know you guys looked around all the different businesses today (and mad props to you for doing that, I'm very impressed), can you remember if you visited either the hairdresser's or Chancel Court?

- Malrog is trying to do his bit, without spending money Rolling Eyes
Edit: Added link to postcode finder.

Great work richchestmat.

Just want to point out one thing, the phone that you describe as "Shaftesbury Avenue just north of Dean Street. Near The Curzon. Note the black phonebox further up the street." is one that I actually checked out on Sunday, and it didn't work, so you need to move that to the "tested" section.

Why do you believe the phonebooths in Chinatown are non operational? Do they not accept incoming calls or something?

- Malrog should really be asleep

I can tell you that the chinese boxes at the pagoda end of Gerrard Street are missing phones. There is another just off Shaftesbury that I have been told is tested and either does not accept calls or has been chavved.

I've updated the site. I'll be able to make it more comprehensive once we've finished off the external boxes.

Off-Topic EDIT: Near the new Les Mis boxes note that Christian Slater is doing One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. That idiot must be so happy to be Jack Nicholson in front of paying customers... Confused

One of the many, many fine businesses who I harassed today. Didn't hit up Chancel Court, though, but Jacky Li is in the row of shops beside the phones 'outside 56 Dean Street', before the pavement curves a little out around the lingerie shop.

It's incredibly frustrating. The phones are right there, they're just not ringing. Maybe we're getting the times wrong, and not the location? Should we just brave out the tourists who want to make calls for another 10 minutes? 20? Should we try looking for phones on Bourchier Street and Meard Street, which are these sidestreets north of Old Compton? We haven't really searched northwards since Saturday.

I hope this isn't taken the wrong way, but I would like to just check that you are all absolutely sure that 6PM is the time for the phone to ring? It would be an awful shame if you were all scouring London only to find that the time is out by an hour or so because of daylight savings. I realise that you guys have probably worked it out correctly already, but it's just something to doublecheck I guess. Smile

Gentle trout, Nova. It's been asked before. Trust me, after a month of following the axon hunts, I could probably do the time conversions for the entire US in my sleep.

Fair enough. I only asked because I live outside the US and have plenty of friends within the US, and time miscalculations have been the cause of more than a few problems in the past. Smile

What about us? *sniff* Canada shares the same timezones too... we even have our own tiny 30 minute timezone out east... Sad

Hey everyone, this is one of the guys that met up with Malrog and Flidget on Sunday evening, finally convinced to come out of the woodwork. Wish I could help more, this is starting to drive me mad!

Just a thought, but if 57 Dean Street is a block of flats, sometimes they have payphones in the entrance hall? If it's even possible to get in there.

Also, it's Phil, not Ian. Very Happy Close!

Also, melarocco, can you take a look at richchestmat's site and confirm that we weren't able to to get the same phone on the south side of Shaftesbury Avenue that you and Richard couldn't?
