Re: Marine Park.
Here are some pics (although they don't show much)

Enjoy.

Thanks Cap'n. I think the pictures show us whether the snake looks like the one in the comic book. I would say yes, it looks like the drawing was supposed to look like that snake, because of the eye and the diamonds. The colors are very different, on the other hand, but at least we can all judge for ourselves.

Anyone digging a hole there is foolish, because the treasure is clearly not where the snake is.

Please don't feed the trolls anymore, anyone.

the snake

Yes, the snake looks just like the one in the comic book, BUT...

"Ya bury gold ta keep it a secret, and if someone's listenin', it ain't a secret anymore."

If we are supposed to be LISTENING to the pirates.... if they say that they are speaking in CODE, and that only they FOUR should be able to understand them....

Why do they never mention the snake? I mean, they say "we could defeat it", but that's it. Nothing else. The snake is SO OBVIOUSLY found and easily identifiable.... its almost as easy to find as Balto! WHY would they give such an obvious clue after confusing us so much? Make it so simple to pick up the trail?

Is anyone with me on this, or are we all just accepting this snake as a clue? I'm not challenging... I am honestly curious about everyone's thoughts.

The "turtle" is mere steps away from the "snake".

So... the "turtle" here would have been referenced in Episode 5, and then the "snake" would be referenced in Episode 6?

That's what I'm having a problem with....I don't think two things so close together would be referenced so far apart in the videos.

There is another similar turtle at McCarran Park. Maybe that is the turtle in Episode 5? I still like the Bushnell Turtle. Don't see how to turn that into a specific location in the city though, it never landed there.

The other playground in Marine Park with the squid and treasure chest is also a public park, though it is next to the Marine Park Jr. High.

Re: the snake

For a while, I had the same thought: only what they say is important, so ignore purely visual clues. However, does this mean that we pretty much ignore everything in the Black Tom episode?

You're right, it might not be a clue at all. Fighting a giant snake in a graveyard does seem a little contrived though if it isn't. And even if it is a clue it still might not be that concrete snake.

If we could just pick up the trail from that point, that is one thing. But if the whole trail is important, then it does not hurt to have some relatively easy locations. And clearly, while it was easy to find, we are not certain it is right even if we believe the comic book snake is a clue, so it wasn't that easy a clue after all.

I agree. I don't think we should see a snake and then look for a snake, I don't believe it would be that easy. In Ep. 1 they show us this when talking about the Dairy etc...they would tell us they ate the ice cream and we should associate that with the dairy instead of just flat out saying dairy. Just because they show a snake doesn't mean we should find a snake and that's the spot. lol

Monkey carrying Mulligan

At Prospect Park, one of the zoo entrance kiosks has a bas relief of Mowgli being carried off by the monkeys. For what its worth, Prospect Park is around 28 furlongs from Marine Park. There are also snakes and birdies, both statues and real. I'm not sure about ships, though I think there are some boats on the lake.

snake

Someone brought up the snake referring to the green subway line. While I wasn't certain about the other things that person pointed out, I have been tossing this idea around. I am most intrigued because it starts off as one green giant snake and then gets cut up at all different points by the members of the crew. Maybe that is to imply that i breaks up into different branches of green lines.

I understand the desire to dig, but didn't they say don't just dig, you'll know it when you see it? I wish that anyone who digs at least fills it back in. It's so irresponsible and will ensure this never happens again.

not a snake at all

The snake could just be a metaphor. For what? Temptation, the devil, evil. I don't know.

I hear ya! I had a dream that I was drinking a glass of water, but it turned out to be dirt. Then I got really excited because I caught a glimpse of a gold coin at the bottom!

Streets near Marine Park

It is possible to find some famous people with one of the first names the commentator in Episode 5 is called and the last name of one of the streets near the snake/turtle. Of course, since there are a large number of famous people, and quite a few streets, and several first names, this would not be very good unless nearly all of the streets and names matched up, preferably in order.

The names are:
Billy
Bob
James
John
Jimmy
Carol
Wynona
Don
Lance

The streets are:
Flatbush
Hendrickson
Coleman
Kimball
Ryder
38th-31st
Marine
Madison
Burnett
Stuart
Gerritsen

Plumb 1st
Plumb 2nd
Knapp
Brigham
Bragg
Coyle
Ford
Batchelder
Brown
Haring
Nostrand
29-27
Bedford
25-21
Ocean
19-12
Coney Island

Quentin
R
Fillmore
S T U V
Whitney
W X
Allen
Bijou
Channel
Devon
Everett
Florence
Gotham
Bartlett
Cyrus
Seba
Lois

The best coincidence that possibly indicates a clue, because of the unusual first name and slightly unusual last name, is Winona Ryder. There are several other matches with the streets near Ryder:

Don Burnett (actor)
Carol Burnett (comedienne)
Winona Ryder (actress)
James Madison (president)
Billy Madison (Adam Sandler film)
Billy Kimball (Editor Harvard Lampoon, Simpsons writer, NYC native)
Billy Burnette (Fleetwood Mac)
Billy Ocean (Ocean Avenue)
Lance Henrikson (Hal Vukovich) (Hendrickson Street?)
Jimi Hendrix (Hendrickson??)
John S Burnett, author of Modern Piracy and Terror on the High Seas

This is far from using all of the first names or covering all the streets, or even just those that intersect Avenue U. So unless someone finds more matches, I think these do not indicate this area very conclusively.

If you only use streets that touch the park they match up.

My girlfriend says I am talking in my sleep.

Apparently, I blurt out things in my sleep about this hunt.

I think i said "Spaniard is RIGHT!"

(much respect)

Speaking of Spaniard...

Here ya go! I have some other pics of the Jim Henson and John Stone benches, but they seem to have been stored on the camera's internal memory, and not the card. If I can find the cable (which is why it's taken me so long to upload), I will oblige. Incidentally, there was nothing under or near them.

This is Cleopatra's Needle near the Museum of Modern Art. Note: there are FOUR crabs underneath. I checked the surrounding area, as you suggested... and noted where it might point at different times... but nothing stood out. I did this for shits and giggles, as nothing really seemed to lead us there, and because you have been so diligent in your daftitude. There was nothing taped under the sign, or nearby, and the ground around it is protected and undiggable, as it is likely to cause a scene.

I will get to Belvedere Castle for the same reasons.

Please to enjoy.

P.S.: These are vertical panoramic images. The other pictures are also stored in the internal memory.
