New Slender Man type story.

I've been working on a Slender Man thought form type of story since a while on paper and started it a month or so ago in blog format and haven't showed it to anyone.
I haven't gotten much time to work on it at all. A lot of medical and family problems have been going on and I haven't touched it in nearly a month.

Im wondering if anyone is interested in reading it? once I patch a few parts of it up I COULD post it.

It'll be updated as regularly as I can.

Authors, or PMs I guess they're called, aren't allowed to post their own stories on here.

People'll give you a lot of heat for it.

I wasn't going to post it on here. I should of made that clear. I was just going to link the blog and if anyone wanted to read it they could.
I've seen that done before but if that isn't allowed then fine.

I believe what Slick was talking about is how you cannot post the link at all. If you want it to be posted on here, you should probably PM the link to someone and ask them to post it.

That makes sense. I understand and agree to that 100% my friend was going to post it for me because I didn't want to post it and seem to come off as like an @ss or something, but he decided to go to a movie and didnt want to post it for me.
Guess I'll find someone to post it for me.
Thanks!

From what I get from your post this is not a new ARG in the SM mythos, correct? It's more like fan fiction based in a forum. In that case you are welcome to post it here and get reactions and such.

What you are not allowed to do is:

- Post in-character if you are running a game. uF is an OOG zone where players should feel free and protected from any IC repercussions of their posts.

- Post as the PM while your game is actively going on, thus destroying the curtain that allows players to enjoy the experience.

Posting a trailhead for your game is considered bad taste. You can always send it to us and we can post it anonymously for you, allowing the players to fully be in control of the gameplay while you are in the background running things.

Hope that clears things up a bit for you.

Yeah I would rather someone posting it anonymously for me.
I never wanted to post it in the forum just get the link posted by someone and people talking about it just because I think people might like it.
I wont post in character or post if people talk about it in a way that could ruin it on them. I'm pretty secret about it. I've kept it hidden as good as I could so far.

Thanks for clearing it up.

*ahem* I'll just get the ball rolling, seeing as how they took the time to PM me with a long note included:

http://0bservati0ns.blogspot.com

To the other players/readers:

Personally, the lack of story-telling in this leaves me uninspired, an the colloquial spelling of things kind of bugs me. Reading it gives me the impression that the author wrote it more as a stream-of-conscious experiment than an attempt to sit down and tell a scary story. I had mentioned to the PM in a private message reply that his latest entry seems quite similar to the latest Everyman Hybrid video, however he replied that he's had the idea since August. Fair enough, I suppose; it's not as though creepypasta stories can only be used by one person to scare others. The timing of this recent post, though, leads me immediately to compare the two attempts to frighten. I think the blog post is definitely lacking.

It just seems to me that, working with a blog, one has to work harder to capture the attention and imagination of slendy-ARG players. Well, that's not true... there have been a few vlogs that haven't seemed to work very well, either. What I suppose I should say is that, in this genre, blogs are very common and players can choose from any that they want. In order to have a successful blog, taking a new angle to the story, making a concentrated attempt to build an interesting character that we're sympathetic to, then building up the tension so that we're frightened for that character, is pretty much a requirement.

Anyways, I'm not sure what to make of this. It doesn't leap out and grab me, yet. What d'you guys think? Anything that could be changed or added to make it better?

I got to say reading what you said makes me REALLY happy. Everyone is always too nice. A few people I showed it just said the usual. Amazing man etc. Sheesh criticism is good ya know?! I never really took the offensive to write this as a story yet, a lot going on in life and I wasn't going to release it until I made every post a lot better but my friend is on my ass to see what people think even though I said people wont think much since there isn't much there.

I never wrote a blog before, and im used to writing films and short films and making things that way since the last six years. So writing a blog story is very different and VERY hard for me to do but I want to try it.

Any help is totally appreciated, constructive criticism too, and I will be updating this more since I have more time now. I am all for making something fun and something everyone enjoys to read especially if others have ideas and opinions that can help me out.

I wont spoil any ideas I have for it or give any clues out since this ties in with the film series my friend and I are going to film. He's working so we barely get to see each other.
We have a starting point though and will do out best to release it soon.

Anyway thank you for your thoughtful and truthful comment and to anyone else too.

Also to be honest I mainly am putting this out earlier than I originally wanted was because I would like some help since I really am not good at writing a blog like this and thought some of you folks would be interested and when the film series goes out I'll probably mention anyone who has helped me with the blog in some way with their permission of course.

Maybe reading comments off or something of people giving me hints or something. Not sure yet. I want this to be a very audience oriented thing it's why Im looking for help.

Sorry I said that wrong.

If it's not going to be audience oriented, then what is it going to be? I'm sorry if that's a strange question, but that was a really odd remark -- if it's not for others, is it for yourself? If it's for yourself, why go with a blog format that's open to everyone? Why not go with a traditional journal that you write in by hand? If, in the end, that turned out to be something that you wanted to share, at least it would be in a format that feels more believable, when put side by side with the many slender-blogs that have gone up in the last couple of months.

Some things to keep in mind for a blog-based story: because new watchers/viewers will come in at the latest entry, not the first, you should consider putting a hook, or something interesting, in each post. That's probably a viable suggestion for youtube posts and the like, as well. That doesn't mean that every entry has to be epic, but if you aren't focusing on what the character is doing, give us a sketch of who they are, what they're like. Make the character somebody who is interesting to read.

Think of a single theme that you want to show throughout the entire story, and stick to that. If you haven't written much before, and are uncertain of how to do it well, there are any number of books out there which are awesome at pointing out the basics. Something that you should probably read, if you're in to making videos and the like, is The Writer's Journey by Christopher Voegler. (I think the latest version is Volume 3?) It's easy to read, lays things out in a way that helps beginners to understand writing, and will give you a foundation for what a story is about. You don't have to stick to it to write a slender!blog, but it may help you in future endeavors that you haven't even come up with, yet.

Sorry about that I meant I wanted it to be very audience oriented since I've never written a blog and would surely like and need some help. I just wrote what I said wrong. Fixed it now.

Thank you for the tips. I'm going to do some editing since I actually have some time and try and make it have a hook to it etc.

I'm going to see if I can find some time to read that book, thanks for the tips and Ill do what I can and am looking forward to anything else people have to say.

Hmm I guess I should do something like a post about who my character is what he's trying to really do and the like.

This would be a lot easier for me if I could do videos, but my video camera is sh!t. I can't find a program to edit files with it the file type doesn't work in WMM or any other program I try even when I change the file type.

So my best shot is short videos that are un edited and doing more with the blog in a way that has the readers feel the character.

This will be a BIG challenge for me as I personally do have Schizoid Personality Disorder and have a hard time understanding empathy so writing and making it come off to readers as oh Im drawn in Im worried about him etc will be hard but with some help i can probably pull something decent off!
