The Operator / Absence of Choice Thread is on 4chan, so you better not play it! I have registered an IRC channel to use for this.
Server: irc.rizon.net
Room: #theoperator
I'll have more info I can post after, but there have been threads being posted on /x/ for weeks, all at 00:00 exactly.
The OP claims the threads are to make people aware that there is information being passed.
That's all we really know. I've saved two days of threads that I can post later. Right now, I'd like some help asking him questions.
I know you all tend to dislike /x/ ARGs. Try this one out, please?
The OP tends to delete his posts, but I have saved all of them.
He deletes his whole post at 1 AM EST, which is why this post is a bit of a rush job.

I am not the PM, nor do I know him, but if you don't want info from me, then fine. Save the threads yourselves.

New screencap posted by anon, proving that the Operator has been posting for at least a few months.

That's really unfortunate. Maybe if he makes an email and this goes further than 4chan, you'll be willing to play.

People need to stop being so afraid of /x/ over here...
So this is the guy who's been posting in Russian and posting test screen JPEGs? This has been running for like a month or two, then.

Scanned through the files you uploaded foucalt. I don't know that I really see a game here, just someone messing around. I do like the tone of his writing, definitely doing a good job keeping the mystery going. But so far it seems Absent of Purpose.
However, I don't like 4chan, so won't be participating til it moves venues, not because I'm afraid of virii, but because I have standards in the web sites I visit. It's not even the vast amount of immaturity, although that would be enough to keep me from visiting, it's the crap site design.
Anyway, thanks for saving all the dialogue, would be nice to get it in a text file though.
One relatively major issue though; was it really necessary to include all the hentai ads on 4chan in your zip files??? I mean you could have taken 2 seconds and opened the html folder and deleted them...

What is more troubling is that the OP started a thread here:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=30513
Since the supposed PM asked them to not go public with this project yet and the fact that the posts are indeed being deleted would indicate either that this is not an ARG or that the PM is not ready to go public yet.
Pile up the fact that this is a 4chan find and it will make me stay away from it.

He changed his tune two days ago. I wish people would stop posting that they won't play, it doesn't help anything. We get it, 4chan sucks. Go away.
Kinda hard to go away since I have to keep an eye on the forums and such. In any case, we all reserve the right to our own opinions. Yet be it either as a moderator or as a human being it's a perfectly legit post to say "buyer beware" to anything that comes out of 4chan.
And it is not simply the 4chan connection that raises an eyebrow. Please understand that you seem to have the inside track to this game because somehow you know the PM. And the players are exposed to the ARG via YOUR posts here! I hope you see how unorthodox this is for an ARG. Essentially, you are our only link to this game! Case and point, you were the only one that knew that PM now wants this ARG exposed.
We have plenty of folks that find ARGs via these forums. It would be a disservice to them and to the community to blindly expose them to a 4chan viral that might have nefarious purposes. Believe me, if it was just blind bashing to the tune of "4chan sucks" we would be politely suggesting constructive criticism instead.
I applaud your enthusiasm and sincerely hope that this becomes a really rewarding experience. But we all reserve the right to say our thoughts and opinions (I am highly disappointed at NBC's Truth Seeker for example) in a calm and civilized manner.
