Requesting aid with an SM project.
It's not a blog or vlog.

Alright fellow Slender-Fans, I've been struck with divine inspiration today. What inspiration is that, you ask? Well, I'm toying with the idea of writing a novel based around the Slender Man mythos. It's something I've had in my head for a while now, but over the past couple days pieces of plot, characters, and atmosphere have fallen into place and I like the picture they're forming.

Without giving away major plot elements as I'm slightly paranoid, the story revolves around a survivor of severe brain trauma via accident having bouts of hallucinations due to the brain damage, similar to people who experience mental illnesses or changes in personality after suffering brain damage. Medical treatments don't work for long and the hallucinations snowball out of control, leading to the Slender Man and the protagonist losing his grip on reality due to thinking he's hallucinating, but also being faced with other people occasionally experiencing what he believes to be fantasy. One small example of this being when another person sees the now infamous Operator symbol.

I've been reading up on the full Mythos, including elements that aren't really seen anymore. One example being the presence of fog around Slender Man. Apparently he dissolved children into mist, and that's where it all came from. These mythos elements are going to be the inspiration for most of the hallucinations the protagonist experiences, along with some others I have in mind that just feel Slender related.

Now you may be asking yourself "Hey, Demongel, why are you posting this on UnFiction? Hell, why are you sharing this at all?!" Well, I need help. Mainly I need a few Slender Man fans to bounce ideas off of and compare mythos lore with, and the people here at UnFiction are the most knowledgeable SM fans I know of. I'm pretty sure the only way to get a better form of help would be to contact Victor Surge directly, which come to think of it might be a good idea to do. Same with Troy. Intellectual Property and all that, though I think Slender Man is Public Domain technically.

Anyway, if anyone here would like being a Slender Man sounding board so I can refine these ideas a bit more, let me know. I'm not going to pull you aside very often or deluge you with 40,000,000 ideas at once, promise.

In an odd and ironic turn of events, as soon as I finished typing the above paragraph it started raining.

If this thread is somehow against UnFiction Forum rules and/or seen as inappropriate, please let me know and/or flag it for removal.

Edit: I'm trying to filter through the Slender Man mythology to figure out what parts of it I want to include in the story. As we all know the Slender Man has changed and evolved since the Something Awful thread and Victor Surge, but some general ideas still remain.

1. The Slender Man targets children.
2. It prefers wooded and/or foggy areas.
3. Future victims of Slender Man suffer from nightmares and what would seem to an outside party to be hallucinations of it, as adults sometimes can't see Slender Man while children can.
4. Slender Man is able to stretch and grow his limbs and torso to inhuman lengths. It can also form tentacles from it's fingers and back. There's no known limit to the length and/or size of these changes in form.
5. Slender Man has three general MOs.
5A. Slender Man causes the victim to vanish without a trace.
5B. Slender Man eviscerates his victims, removing organs and pinning the husk to a tree.
5C. Slender Man burns down the area with his victims in the blaze.

I'll fill this out more later.

I'm willing to give any input/ideas/anything you need. Very Happy I've done a bit of reading up on the series and stuff for my recently-ended project.

Yeah, that's one of the things that I thought was interesting in the original posts. It could be thought of as being metaphorical in a way, since Slenderman was taking their solid lives and making them just memories.

I'm kinda bummed that was never followed up on. I think part of the problem, at least for the video blogs, was that it's an additional effect that was difficult to show.

Oh god dammit, this was my idea!

Ha ha, but not really. My initial plan was that once I became a rich and all-powerful author, I wanted to round up a bunch of people to try and get an anthology of Slenderstories published (which I'm still hell-bent on doing some day, even though I've heard that publishers fear the idea of such anthologies more than the Slenderman himself).

Anyway, I am available to bounce ideas off of. And so glad someone finally mentioned the child-mist, that was one of the stories I always found most frightening.

Wow, people actually want to help. Awesome.

I'm still doing research right now, mostly reading Slender Man stuff and starting to decide exactly what type of accident would be good to trigger the brain trauma which the entire story is based on. That second part requires some medical research, mostly neurological.

As far as story goes, if any of you have ever been in a major accident, whether it be automobile, outdoor hobbies, etc., toss me some info on that. I've been lucky enough to never have anything remotely life threatening happen to me, so I have no personal experience to go off of here. As I'd like to aim for realism where I can get it, it'd be good to have some idea of what goes through someone's head in these types of situations.

I hope i'm not too late to contribute, I like being a general sounding board for creative ideas.
I'd love to help out with this endeavour, it sounds hella schweet.

So I'm tossing ideas around in my head about the traumatic event that leads to hallucinations via brain damage, and I've got three ideas so far. Note that I may come up with more as I go along.

The three ideas right now are...

1. Car Crash. Pretty standard here. The crash leads to a blow to the head that causes some minor brain damage. Nothing really interesting, but it's believable.

2. Accident during outdoor climbing. I'm not sure whether I want this to be mountain climbing or just climbing a very tall tree. This one is a bit more dependent on the Protagonist's job and hobbies, but falling from a tree seems appropriate. Just needs a legitimate reason to be up there.

3. Oxygen starvation via drowning. Again, this is pretty dependent on the protagonist's hobbies and job. It's easier then you'd imagine to get into a situation where drowning can occur, especially if you can't swim.

Something that just struck me right now is combining 1 and 3. Basically this sets up a situation where the car somehow loses control and swerves off of the road and into a lake/river. This would involve hitting a guard rail hard enough to break through it, which is enough force to justify hitting his head on the wheel and knocking him unconscious. Add to that being underwater and brain damage seems pretty likely.

Yeah, I like that. What do you guys think? Remember, the accident leading to brain trauma is kind of what gets the entire story going, as the trauma leads to hallucinations which eventually blend with Slender Man shenanigans.

I think nearly drowning combined with the car crash would be a good solution.
I've seen what oxygen deficiency can do to a person. I'm working with disabled children. One of them drowned as a child (while her mother saved another kid from falling off a scaffold. very sad story), was reanimated, and since then is heavily disabled. Both physically and mentally.

Plus, you still have got the possibility to let him have whatever job you want him to have.

I'm not even sure if the job angle will be important yet. Like I've said before I'm still in the early planning and research phases here.

Yeah, my main point was to say: Car accident + drowning = very high possibility of braindamage, and so: good explanation for hallucinations and the like ^^

I can help out to the best of my ability. Hell, I would most likely benefit as well (i'm working on my on the writing and casting of my slednervlog, most of the writing needs castning first though, will be ready to film once I have cast).

Since you're doing a novel though I have no immediate suggestions.
