NYC Dept of Parks & Recreations says the following:

"- No person shall possess any tools commonly used for gardening, or any plant, tree, shrub or other vegetation, in any park except where such possession is specifically designated to be permissible by the Commissioner.

- No person shall use a metal detector in any park, except in unvegetated beach areas. Use of metal detectors in other park areas will be permitted if the prior written consent of the Commissioner is obtained."

If we have to DIG up the treasure, it would be illegal for that treasure to be in a park. Unless the commissioner permitted their placing it there, but then it would be illegal for us to access the treasure there.

I think the Mario and Fafa videos as giving important clues
and student videos are not really student videos

Mario and Fafa videos, IMO, are giving important clues.

In one video, they give a number for Swift Laundry which I don't find to exist. I didn't try the telephone number, and merely googled, but when you flip it upside down using a flip text generator you get

900ᄐ-ᄅᄅㄣ 9⇂

Swift Laundry
900 E 22 #491

http://www.sherv.net/flip.html

It's adjacent to Brooklyn College.

Here is another possibly useful tool.

Reverse Text Generator - Backwards, Flipped or Upside Down!

Does this commercial for Swift Laundry illustrate some tool or principle we should be using?

Mario and Fafa mention Van Gogh
to include cutting off his ear and then something I can't understand

What does Mario say about Vincent? I can't make out a key word.

Is the clue a pun: VAN GO.

Or is he talking about Vincent Van Gogh's self-portrait under felt hat.

Or Starry Starry Night at the Metropolitan Museum? I have no idea.

But I think VAN GOGH should be given a weight equal to LOST and DA VINCI CODE.

10 digit magic number (ala LOST) and some odds and ends
"do you need more time"

As I mention on page in the summary post on page 237, I think the number for Swift Laundry may be what I call your magic 10-digit LOST number.

The ad says "Need more time?" It then gives you a 10-digit number that is not in service.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

And so while the number in Casper, Wyoming gave you the standard LOST Numbers, I would consider these 10 numbers as an alternative: 516-422-3006.

I'm not from NYC and am not free to come to NYC because of the press of other matters. If anyone would like to work with me on a flexible, site-specific basis, email me at rocketdocketSPLATrocketmail.com or PM me. You can have the $10,000. I would ask to get a pat on the back and the premium over $10k that I know we can get for it. (It would be a cool thing to have.) I mean, these aren't dollar coins you should be spending in a laundry.

I've also added to the earlier discussion at page 237 this picture of the colored balls being washed before being put into storage at 111 Empire Blvd. in Brooklyn at Safeguard Ministorage.

Finally, here is a picture of a very naughty Santa uploaded by the Captain on his personal account where he advertises the treasure hunt. (accessible by searching Twitter). Mulligan says "Santa" , "Satan" heheh -- pointing again to the enjoyment he takes with his code in which he switches letters around. Where is the location? Southport Seaport, the location of the old Fulton Fish Market? It is in front of an UNO. Is the next Times Square? Wherever you are, Mulligan used to think that everything goes better with a gorilla. And in the second Santa picture, what is that statuary someone is carrying?

You've seen the emphasis in the videos on the number "4" in the videos. That was Lou Gehrig's jersey number which they retired. Now in his closet, hanging right next to his Santa outfit, our beloved Captain may have a jersey. It may clue Lord Nelson and Jerry Nelson -- and also the former Sesame Street director Stone who co-directed Follow That Bird with Jim Henson and directed Mr. Willoughby's "Christmas Tree." In his New York Times obituary, Joan Ganz Cooney describes Stone as "probably the most brilliant writer of children's television material in America." Mr. Stone's bench number is 10097 while Mr. Henson's bench number is 10098 (a key NYC zipcode).

Does anyone know what Tom is saying at the end of episode 8 that makes them all laugh?

You’d Better Watch Out: SantaCon Returns
"Dark Is The Con Of Man" is the main anagram to solve in DaVinci Code

Mario and Fafa point to DaVinci Code to aid in clue solving.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m35F2MnLmY0

"Dark Is The Con Of Man" is the main anagram to solve in DaVinci Code. Is there an anagram in this wonderful webseries that similarly is centrally important? (that is, besides Mulligan's SANTA <--> SATAN). From The Da Vinci Code: On the glass over the Mona Lisa, Sauniere wrote "So dark the con of Man". It was an anagram for Madonna of the Rocks, a nearby painting.

Why did the Captain burn Crothers' blue felt hat? In the Muppets pirate treasure movie, the captain threw the blue hat into the fire after acting treacherously toward his crew in regards to the treasure. ('Dead men tell no tales")

Mario may clue Van Gogh also -- who he mentions before discussing Da Vinci. He notes that Van Gogh cut off his ear and mailed and then he said something I couldn't make out -- I think he said that Van Gogh did something to revolutionize things.

It would be oool if some key sentence was an anagram for Van Gogh's "Self-Portrait with Felt Hat" which perhaps describes the picture of Tutty.

What is the best anagram of
"A BEFORE PADDED PLAYGROUNDS PRODUCTION"

What is the best anagram of LOCATION: Jim Beard SP? (That's a deliberate misspelling of a proper noun -- flagging a word that likely was intended to be anagrammed). One brainstormed possibly anagram would be LOCATION: Red Jibs Map (That could be the Christmas Tree medallion where the direction to which the vault turned pointed to the British Empire Building).

Here is an article about SantaCon -- the Captain uploaded pictures of SantaCon to his personal account where he advertises the treasure hunt. (accessible by searching Twitter).

"You'd Better Watch Out: SantaCon Returns

This annual red-suited pub crawl takes over NYC on Saturday. Mommy, why is Santa walking funny?

Dec 12, 2009

NBCNewYork.com

What if you could distill the very best things about the holiday season – Santa, dressing up, and drinking, not necessarily in that order -- into a single event?

Good news! There is an event that combines all three, and it's coming to town on Saturday, December 12. That's when SantaCon descends on New York City (also Kalamazoo, Nashville, and Vienna, Austria, among other cities – SantaCon is a global phenomenon).

What is SantaCon? According to organizers, it is "a not-for-profit, non-political, non-religious and non-logical Santa Claus convention, attended for absolutely no reason."

Last year, 1,000 Santa impersonators descended on Midtown. To join in the chaos, head to

Sometimes a phone number is just a phone number. Especially if the website specifically states "No clues here." That's all I'm saying, Captain.

I keep looking in this thread and can't help but think how in 2000 years, when they're digging to build the sub-light transport tunnel between the spaceport and the cloning facility, they're going to dig up this chest full of coins.

Since gold will have no meaning by then, they will simply drop it into the fusion reactor fuel chamber on their plasma cutters and move on.
