I thought it was a post office barcode, but evidently they use a height modulated code:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POSTNET

So here's a bit of transcription
Code:
11000011010110110101111110100100111000110110101001011100101111

envelope.jpg
 Description
 Filesize   23.11KB
    62 Time(s)

Unfortunately, this file is no longer in our archives.

Ah! So, then it's just a post office thing?

I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to match any barcode I can find. Most commercial barcodes have some method of embedding a clock as in this image:

In these, theres a mark in every place, so that for instance a 0 is a short tick and a 1 is a tall tick. Others use a narrow bar for a 0 and a wide bar for a 1.

In your barcode there seems to be just a bar for 1 and no bar for 0. Maybe posicode or BC412, but the start-stop or checksum characters don't seem be right. Also I can't find any postal barcode that gets printed on the back of the envelope.

Even after all that rambling, I'm still guessing it's from the post office. There are 62 bits, which means it can only be divided by 2 and 31. If it was a straightforward code it would have to be either 31 characters of 2 bits, or 2 characters of 31 bits.

I am more than willing to be corrected by anyone who knows more about barcodes or mail...

ETA: Yup, just a post office mark, sorry:

Was looking around, and you're right, it's just a post office mark the computer puts onto the envelope, which has the address and whatnot on it. Never received mail with it before.

Still wicked stumped on everything else. Sat for hours today trying to figure out how to begin decoding the message on Memory Warriors, but the strip I got looks like someone else might be receiving another at some point. Anyone have any ideas? I'm just totally clueless.

I've been having no luck, either. However, MW has a new blog post with additional information. I'm hoping it will contain information that will help me revise my plan in time for the Oct. 17 deadline.
I've transcribed the audio from MW's latest post (idk if it's rly a spoiler but just in case...):
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
0001100000011010011100100100010010001000101010010000110011101001110011011101011000000100010110101111001000111001111010110

110110101100101001000100011011100001001010

I have double-checked it (not that I still couldn't have made a mistake). The breaks are random to keep the post from becoming too wide.

So Emma send a direct email with this request:

Quote:
Friends of Dr. Schreber:

I have an urgent feeling that Dan's trying to contact us. I can't explain it, but perhaps if someone decodes the numbers station's broadcast...? Interpol can't or won't release the results of their research.

I also have a feeling that it's soon going to be too late to save all those people!

Please help me, I haven't the faintest idea what to do, I feel as if I'm drowning.

-- Emma

Believe me, I have tried to find something that translates voice to text on the web. I don't have Dragon Naturally Speaking and don't feel like forking over the dollars required to buy it. While there are a million programs out there that do text to speech there's nothing really readily available for the reverse.

So do we need to split this up (say 50 numbers each or something) and do it manually?

That's the only way, I think. The file is just over nine minutes long. Maybe a minute between nine of us? I tried doing it yesterday and last night, but I'd get lost and have to start again, very frustrating.

I managed to transcribe the smaller recording by putting it in Audacity and reducing the speed, but it was still tedious. To top it off, none of the binary translators spit out readable text and I ended up one number short of what's needed for binary anyway, so I have no idea what to do with the information.
Still, assign me a span of time and I'll gladly help transcribe.
However, MW has a new post with more clues for the ominous note.

MW has a relatively new post about the puzzle. Also, Interpol has very interesting, new information.

I received a letter in the mail today. It simply states:
Quote:
Have you ever tried Bacon?
I know that Dr. Schreber did.

My thought is that it's referencing the Bacon code Molinero mentioned Oct. 18; I'll see if I can make that work. If you want to see a pic or two of the actual letter, it's here.

Tiffany, the kloo was for that horrible binary-ish where YOU did all the hard work. Am posting it 'tho as it seems important. Shocked
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
DAN HERE IVE GOT TO WARN PEOPLE WHO THE STRANGERS ARE GOING TO PICK UP LIKE JOHN MURDOCK

Will leave all the further ctcs/warnings in your hands as transcribing that binary must have taken .forevar. G'Nite.

Thank you, amandel! I don't know how long it would have taken me to figure out I needed to group the binary into groups of 5 and turn all the zeros into As and ones into Bs, but after reading your post it took all of 3 minutes. I'm actually having quite a bit of fun with this cipher! I appreciate your help - it made my morning! Oh, and I have sent MW, the Inspector, and Emma an email informing them of what we discovered.

New update from Emma via facebook, she opened a chat with me, posting the important parts.

"I must apologize for this intrusion - but I haven't been able to contact John on his cell phone."

"that's unfortunately old news. See John is traveling for work, and he always calls me @ 10pm no matter what...I'm scared."

"OK - He's staying at the Swiss Arms Hotel in West Djahar."

Not sure what is happening here as I more or less stopped watching

EDIT: it appears the PM might be giving us a lead.

Mind you these are the ONLY references to the swiss arms hotel in west djahar (and one has a bar code puzzle)

I'm talking with Emma now, and I am completely stuck on what to do or ask. She asked me just now and last night if I'd heard from John, which I haven't. Does this mean that one of us might be contacted by him, or something? She mentions calling the hotel desk and John a whole lot, is that the story being led? I'm still completely new to this stuff.
