Forgive My Ignorance

So, this is my first ARG. My question is this.... What's the end game? What are we trying to accomplish with this? Is this back story? Just information about the movie? I'm really enjoying this so far(only wish there was not so much down time between clues). I was just wondering where we are going. And thanks to the people who have put in hard work figuring this stuff out.

The general ideas behind these are usually to generate hype or explore story-lines and back-stories difficult to explain in movie (or not even in the movie at all). That's what I gather. Promotion and anecdotal back-story info.

Endgame: Sometimes there is a big finale at the end where we have to save the world or someone's life, sometimes every riddle is just being solved an the protagonist thanks us and the ARG is finished. It always depends.

Accomplish: Have fun with riddling, having a good feeling "helping" a fictional character, using your leet hacking skills and not feeling bad about it cause the site was in-game ;)

Back story: Kinda. An ARG can be a parallel story running in the same universe as the movie. Usually the ARG characters don't show up in the movie (there won't be a John looking for mysterious fishes in the movie). The storylines are mostly kinda separated (there was no company called Slusho in the Cloverfield movie). But it's in the same fictional universe and it helps you getting into the movie's setting. And: the movie company can show off being 'modern and progressive' with initializing an ARG. There will be some articles about the many players that 'happily' played the ARG. So, yeah. You having fun with this ARG will be utilized for promotion :)

Actually, ARG it's like life: the endgame is not so important as the story. Sometimes there is bombastic endgame, like Conspiracy08,
sometimes there is funny endgame playing with players vanity (which is cool, lol),
sometimes there is just nothing, like in Cloverfield.

But if the ARG stucks in your mind with characters and stories, it's a great one. I have huge hopes about this one, since now they aren't experimenting, like they did with Cloverfield.

Now they are really doing it!
