So we finally get to meet one of the elusive SPARTAN-Is. Cool. That is much cooler than JJ being a SPARTAN-III in my book. Smile

So, in housekeeping, anyone know what Jan is about to say to her dad before she is interrupted by Gilly? And what do you think the significance of JJ and Gilly saying "one-point-oh" is? I mean, I know they are referencing the fact that they are Spartan I's, but what significance does that have in this context?

Does anyone have any background on the Spartan-I project?

JJ says "she earned the right" before that 1.0 thing. So, presumably, the SPARTAN-I unit (or, indeed, all of the SPARTAN-Is), aka the 1.0s, went through this same experience that earned them whatever right it is that JJ is talking about. (She's already served humanity, so she has earned the right to sit out this fight, perhaps?). It seems 1.0 is just their way of sharing that; a phrase that all S-Is will understand and nobody else will.

So little Jan is the confirmed offspring of at least one Spartan mk. 1 (assuming we're still iffy on James' contribution to the Janissary Project). I think last week's files were a good indication that Jan takes after Mother Gilly more than we should be comfortable with. I'm interested in seeing where in the Gladys-J^2-Gilly continuum of Spartan sanity Jan is going to end up in. She might just want a little of Gilly's spirit of preparation if she's going to continue on her vigilant kick. On the other hand, Gilly's insanity may just be what Jan needs to see her own downward spiral.

So am I the only one concerned that last week's activities don't seem to have weighed on her at all?

Ok, lets tie it all together. Gillie and James were S-I's. They had a baby, Jan, who was "tweaked_up," but not spartanized. [SPEC]Perhaps this was a little pay bonus for the Spartans ("we can give your child a shot so that she will never be sick, stupid, or weak...")?[/SPEC]

It seems Spartan 1.0 was disbanded, and that some of the S-I's became psychotic because of either the training or the gene therapy. James keeps hinting at Gladys that she compulsively plots to kill random people. J2 mentions that S-II's are less human than S-I's, [SPEC]so maybe S-II's like MC were more roboticized to get rid of this 'human' tendancy?[/SPEC] (I had previously understood that the reason S-II's were juiced up and made partly cybernetic was so that they wouldn't be squished by the intense pressures inside the MOLJNIR V armor)

Jan didn't know who her mother was. Understandibly, J2 kept it a secret from her, but Gladys isn't too good at keeping a secret. [SPEC]Maybe the sadistic streak Jan has been showing lately is a result of the gene therapy...she's falling under the same problem her mother has. Or, maybe J2 got wind of it and is showing Jan exactly why he has never let her "do anything" with her skills.[/SPEC]

EDIT: Typo Razz

If by "Gladys" you meant Gilly throughout that post, then you're [SPEC] would hold some water.

I suggest you edit it so that you don't get flamed.

Note my politeness Very Happy

/me pokes SJ

it still says Gladys in the central paragraph Razz

In the third book, Kelly and Halsey go off looking for 'someone important' or something like that, right? A lot of people assumed they were off to find the SIII's, but what if they are really trying to contact the remaining SI's?

Probably been said before, but now that we know SI's are involved, it seems that this idea might be worth considering.
