Actually I've already decided how the protagonist first sees The Slender Man, and it's decidedly after the crash. Basically, the hallucinations lessen his grip on reality enough that he catches a glimpse of Slender Man when he generally shouldn't. And as the mythology goes, once you see/know of Slender Man you become a target.

I'm not sure I want a "Masked Man" type character, or even a Conaghan. Those elements are really dependent on how I flesh out the character's background and lifestyle.

I've always wondered how Maskies get that way. Might be interesting to explore.

BTW: in MH, I never thought there was enough evidence that masky was directly under the control of Slender (I thought Jay was, though.) I thought Masky was just a survivor twisted by his experiences. Later stories portray masky types that way, (the hollowed/hallowed) though, so there's a bit of wiggle room in there.

The Masked Men are an interesting concept that seem to all be linked by a common thread (aside from Slender Man) and that's medication. These people become sick, take medication for it, and somehow during this they become Masked Men of varying Slender Allegiance. It could be that the sickness Slender Man imposes on people is more than just regular sickness, and that curing it somehow causes Masked Man Syndrome. Kind of like giving someone the wrong anti-psychotics. They might sort of work, but God help you when the side effects kick in.

With how long a novel usually can be, a Masky, or some similar character(s?) might give you more to work into the plot and adds an extra depth too. More to write about so that the entire novel doesn't consist of "Car crash, hallucinations, something's chasing me, what to do".. if you get what I mean, anyways. I'm bad with words sometimes.

You're right, and it's something I've jotted down in my notebook which is currently housing all of my ideas/thoughts.

Yeah, Masky solves the problem of having a villain that doesn't talk. And while I may be in the minority on this, Entry #### was my favorite. Of course, the cynic in me says that Masky also requires less special effects than SM.

Well Ghost, special effects aren't really an issue with a novel. Talking isn't either, really. Still, it's something to look into.

You seem to have a great deal of volunteers lined up so while I offer my services I do not speculate I would have anything special to offer.

Thanks to everyone for offering their help. I'll be updating this thread with some general ideas that I'd like to bounce off of you guys, as well as some specific things. I'm currently reading House of Leaves, so I'm working on the novel a bit slowly.

Side Note: Buy House of Leaves. It's amazing.

I'm late, of course, but I'm also willing to help you out with ideas over here (although the only Slenderblogs I've gotten all the way through are MH and EMH). I am quite the fan of HOL, though, and if you want to get some inspiration from that I'd be willing to chat with you about it.

-Oh, on a different note. If your protagonist sees Slendy when he's not supposed to (forgive me if I read one of your posts wrong), maybe his girlfriend is the one Slendy's after?

Goodness, how have I not seen this sooner. If you still need more people to bounce ideas with, I am offering to help! Horror writing is rather a hobby of mine. =D

As a fellow author, Demongel, I'm more than willing to aide you in a story of the Mythos we all love to fear. That said, let me impart a small bit of what my friends and I have hypothesized about the above "Masked men," in Marble Hornets:

While including them might be a "nice," idea, Masked antagonists don't appear in any of the other Slender Man material (that I've read, anyway.) They're pretty much exclusive to Marble Hornets. That said, why bring them up in the first place? What is it about Slendy that makes people sick and into Masks? What we hypothesized, actually, was that Slender man is somehow radioactive, or has symptoms that lead to radiation poisoning. Think about it: the coughing and chills, the delusions, medication (that doesn't really work)? Furthermore, it screws with the electronic equipment, leaving digital tearing in the videos as well as audio distortion.

This is just my / our $0.02, mind you. Again, I'm happy to help out.

Hmm...

I'm probably not going to be that much help with this, just because of prior commitments, but I've spent a whole load of time that would be better spent studying, on reading the Mythos. There's a lot of stuff in some of the SomethingAwful posts which got missed out on with MarbleHornets bringing it...Mainstream?

One thing that sticks out in my mind is the laughter of children accompanying him. I wish I could go back and check it again, but I think Lowtax has blocked non-SA members from reading it. The real world effects of Slender Man seem to have been replaced by the weird effects he has on electronics, just because that's the medium.

I also suggest you do have a read of a bit of H.P. Lovecraft if you haven't done so already.

...if the protagonist's description isn't set in stone, it might be an interesting angle to have it be a kid pursued by Slender Man.

Or at least have some child directly related to the hero that has some interesting experiences.
