Although it doesn't make sense our last clue sent us to tronnight2010.com

They're paying the 42E bills, my friend! Smile

Tron Night 2010 Sydney Australia

Sydney, Australia - Hoyts IMAX screening.

I arrived early, partly due to public transport, partly due to my suspicion that the "security checkpoint" would cause delays.

I asked the candy bar staff where the line was and they pointed me in the direction of the IMAX theatre down the hall. I saw a small group of people in business suits and approached them. It turned out to be the Disney representative briefing the security detail.
Me: Excuse me, is this the line for Tron Night?
Her: You're in the right place, but you're very early. *looks at watch* No, you're not. You can line up here if you want to.

So for the first time ever at an event like this I wound up being first in line. Very Happy
Our names were checked off the guest list and our photo id verified. There were no costumes but I see see someone sporting a FLYNN LIVES t-shirt.
Inside the theatre Sam from Disney spoke a few words about how we were the first audience in the world to see the new footage. She spoke enthusiastically about TRON and urged us all to buy December tickets to Tron at the Hoyts IMAX (the theatre we were in). "At 7pm sharp..."
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As she walked off the stage a message "GREETINGS PROGRAMS" came up on the screen in the Encom terminal font. Unlike the Melbourne Australia screening we did not see any footage, trailers or interviews about TRON: Evolution.
"The 23 minutes was like..."
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
massively extended scenes from the trailer. Very Happy (see xombiekitty's excellent post above for details) Seeing TRON: Legacy on the big screen reminded me of how much I loved TRON as a child.
It has been said before, but this really is a fun film to see in 3D.
"Swag..."
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There were no TRON Night posters. Each seat had a small brochure about TRON merchandise available in Australia and the links Disney.com.au/tron and www.tronsoundtrack.com.au

The rumoured glowsticks did not appear at the screening I attended. I had actually brought my own glowsticks from home, but I was so excited I completely forgot about them.

There was also a film crew shooting for one of the Australian satellite tv channels asking people's impressions of the trailer on the way out.

Overall impressions: Very Happy
I had a fun night and hung out with some other TRON fans. I was expecting a Disney-run event with 23 minutes of footage. They delivered. Thank you Disney. Smile

OK, I won't go there with any high expectations of bagging any swag! Just seeing the 23 mins is enough for me!

So would you say that this Tron Night is out of ARG then? i.e. nothing to do with the FlynnLives campaign

Yeah, unfortunately there was no ARG stuff there.
Two of us wore our Encom badges, which helped start up conversations with others who have been playing along, but they all didn't even think to wear their badges!

Since we didn't get a standard release of tickets here, instead it was done through competitions on various websites, the organisation left a lot to be desired.
They didn't have a complete list of names for the door and even though we were the first ones there we had to wait as only one double pass was actually listed at first!
Many people were being directed to wait behind us due to this error.

Eventually we got in though and we had a brilliant time Smile
I must admit to being a little saddened to hear the Disney rep say she was thrilled with the turn out, when the cinema was barely half full... but I've found too many Aussies CBF turning up to free events Sad

Bummer that you didn't get the game footage Lysithea. It was really good Smile

Interesting that you guys had id checked... there was nothing like that at ours & they didn't take electronic gear off anyone either.
Just a name check on the list and a speech about security (if a phone was pulled out in the cinema you would be removed and if you were caught filming you would be prosecuted).

I must admit, our crew all knew that we saw the trailer twice at the Sydney event at IMAX, and so we were all hoping for a second viewing... but no such luck!

Glad you had a great night Lysithea Very Happy Can't wait to see you in December!!!
I'll add my thanks to Disney for a great night too <3

So it sounds like there's no swag being handed out.. that's good at least Smile I can wait for the movie to see 96% of the footage (they always cut scenes out of the movie and then add them as special features when they go to dvd).

OMG, it's tonight! I've been distracted at work, and in fact am NOT in the office today where my calendar would be reminding me of when to head out.

If anyone in NorCal wants to make the drive to Cupertino, we still have two extra plus-ones going unclaimed.

p.s. I forgot to mention that my local comic book store has mini-posters for "Tron: The Betrayal" issues one and two.

I'm going as Megabyte from Reboot.

Okay, no I'm not. But wouldn't that be bad-ass? Wink

That WOULD be cool. I miss that show- they even did a send-up of the X-files in one episode.

If anyone in the San Diego area still needs an 'in', my plus-one became available. I'll be at the Edwards Theaters in Mira Mesa (just off the I-15 at Mira Mesa Blvd). I'll be leaving shortly to get in line, but I'll try to check this site on my phone, if anyone's interested! Look for my Tron-themed jacket and "89 forever" sign...

Unfortunately some things have come up and I won't be able to make it to the Brooklyn showing tonight, so if there was anyone intending to be at the standby line, that's 2 open spots for sure!
