[STIES] REVISITED

sometimes its better to take a step back...

after all this chat hype, we should reconsider the past of this arg

if we take a look on the passive (printout) and the active chat between josh and mysterio we could learn that:

-with "stop posting publicity. i can answer your question. i have proof" mysterio was answering to josh's post on AboveTopSecret

- mysterio was assuming, that josh is able to understand what he sent to him to proof the authenticity of the super8 movie

what he sent to josh was:

#1 the printout of the old magazine - which lead us to rocketpop

#2 the expcnv.dat - which lead us to the goldenratio bullsh*t

the record of the conversation, is just the proof for josh that mysterio was able to find him

is it a coincidence that mysterio knows josh father?
is mysterio watching or even guarding josh all the time, so it was just causal to contact him directly after his AboveTopSecret post?

i think almost all of you will agree, that rocketpoppeteers is just like a counter part for slusho

even if its connected to the story like in cloverfield (rob's job-slusho-tagruato-deepseanectar-grumpy) it will still play a passive role in this arg, more with an attracting/multiplicating function

with all this months to go until we will get amblin-ed, this arg runs WAYYYY to slow, so i am sure we are missing a whole thread in this arg

STIES is the root where we got all informations from

and we still did not solved two major questions:

what is the real function of the expcnv.dat file?

what is the device to mount? (.reenter in pdp-11)

i would bet the device leads to the super8 film material Wink

[STIES] REVISITED

Grama,

This is the my first ARG, and, although I am enjoying it, I really wish this was going a little more faster, but, with the release date announced for june/2011, I don't think that there is something (at least as big as a thread) that we are missing at the moment.
If we operate under the assumption that the PMs read the forum, and we aren't able to discover something too big, and that was important somehow, they will bring more info to the table, am I right? Otherwise the PMs will be working at something that, beside them, no one knows, would be like work for free, what you think?

About the Expcnv file and the Device I think we need more info about them before we can figure out, maybe we will get those ones when Mysterio share more, I hope a lot more, cause till now he/she share almost nothing, with Josh (as promised).

I agree when you say that the STIES are the main site and the others (RP an HLM) are just to make the background to the background, if you understand what I mean, so the info, the one that will really matter, at least for now, will come from this site and to access that info we'll have to use something from the others (like the password to the chat).

PS: We also don't understand what the secret message that the newspaper contain mean ,right? (No certainty if alive, may be after us, we go underground – this is how I read it).

NOC14672;

As Ras would/has pointed out before the underlined phrase in the newspaper is "a live" rather than "alive" and whether they both mean the same in the long run, time will tell.

gramma;

So, if we're missing something with the:
#1 the printout of the old magazine, and
#2 the expcnv.dat

based upon what has been attempted with the above, does anyone have a suggestion as to what way of looking at these that we're missing?

For example, Khruschev's arms reduction message--has anyone looked to see if there are words/phrases that are either missing, or have been added to, the newspaper page (from what he really stated), or is it an exact transcription?

I know there were some theories way back when regarding the advertisements, and even the shorter stories found on the two pages, but yes, based upon what we currently know, is there something that a keen review might reveal?

EDIT: Also, when you state, "is it a coincidence that mysterio knows josh father?" Who is to say that he does? Maybe Mysterio is just playing into what might be Josh's deep-seated desire to connect with a father he never knew? And just what has Mysterio given Josh in a substantive way?

Xeno,

I read the post from Ras and I see the point, better stick to what is write in the newspaper for now, right?
About the speech, it was from John F. Kennedy and can be read at this link http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/jfknucleartestbantreaty.htm

I look for words/phrases added/missing but I found none. Crying or Very sad

maybe you got me wrong

the old newspaper printout has already done what it was there for

#1 establishing connection to the arg players over social networking and personalizing brand (rocketpop)

#2 gave us a word puzzle: no certainty if a live may be after us we go underground

so what we need to solve is:

A: the meaning of no certainty if a live may be after us we go underground

B: the function of the desktop/Braegen14/expcnv.dat

i dont see a relation or connection to the files/hints/infos we got after those two quests, what does not mean that Mysterio hoped it will help Josh to unterstand what he sent to him before......

SO AGAIN FOR ALL THESE TROUT 'R US GUESTS

no certainty if a live may be after us we go underground

AND

expcnv.dat

PLEASE STOP WASTING TIME watching maybe ufoesque Youtube Handycam material - these are not parts of this arg Wink

Unexpected
Unexpected

If we are looking for an Mysterio type guy, I believe I may have an reasonable answer...

If you read the Super 8 New Info thread, then someone surgested looking for something "Unexpected" Well....Here it is..

Well, that wa unexpected. The whole office went out for drinks tonight, thanks to Sarah. She's the new supe. We surpassed sales this month so we got to celebrate. Big deal in this climate. I may have had a few too many – these keys are starting to run together on me

But turns out I learned a thing or two by going out for once,. Sarah didn't know her dad growing up, either. We have a lot common. Itswas pretty funny. and Clive scoffed too. his dad was a forest ranger and just never came back one day. I think cive might've made that story up, now that I think about it. probably Sarah didn't by it. OK!! i need to sleep.

Reanalizing the post, We have something unexpected, Sarah just comes out of no where, supe is not a word, keys of what?, Saras Dad is Gone, Clive's dad is supovily Gone, and what better way to get info out of people than to get them drunk??? Could this lead us anywhere?

The significance of something unexpected was the password to the chat device. That's probably it. Although the importance of those other names have yet to be seen.

"Supe" may not be a real word, but it's shorthand for supervisor. That's what is intended there.

At some juncture we must all understand that Josh is not leaving clues on his website as he is clueless, but rather Mysterioso is using the HLM site and the postings there to clue us in. (we Argonauts that is)

It appears that RP is as Slusho was in Cloverfield.... It just happened to be the advert on that page of the newspaper that was actually intended to be only considered for the coded message within...Which we must remember is from the 1960-70's and not real time today..

So, it seems we are dealing with two different timeframes..

1)The PDP-11 and its recorded history from the 1970's initial sequence of events pertaining to the capture, storage and transfer from Area 51 to the train wreck and escape of the 'alien visitor' who then is captured in some way on a Super 8 film by some kids..and the hell that this creates in Lillian Ohio appears to be the movie plot..

2) Then, we have current events..
Josh and HLM exist in the present day.. It would seem that the death of his mother Evelyn and the things she left Josh include some things stored by Josh's missing dad who we can deduce must have been involved with the initial top secret project..(did he work for the Government ?) We also are told that Josh's dad went missing before Josh was old enough to have known him..So, when Josh sifts thru the belongings left by his mom Evelyn, he comes across these items which he puts up on CL plus the old computer containing the secret files about Area 51 and its alien visitors hidden by his father years ago which he doesnt try and sell.. ( Josh might not realize yet that he has discovered his dads old computer and its secret files....) ... having heard about the passing of Evelyn Minker, Mysterioso must know that Josh will find and try to activate the old PDP-11..How does he even know that there is a PDP-11 in Josh's possession, and even better, who else besides Josh would have an equally old PDP-11 with the same files on it that would know who Josh is and wish to help him find his Father..
Its starting to look like Mysterioso might be Josh's dad. If he turns out to be Ralph Dooderson, who cares? But with 8 months to go, anything can and will happen.. as of now, this is how I read it..

asda, you wrote:

1. Sarah really didn't just come from nowhere, in that Josh indicates that the new supe(ervisor) is expected:
From his blog:
July7 post includes:
"I think we get a new supervisor today."
August 4 post includes:
"New supervisor is great, though – nice to finally have some sanity in the office."

2. Supe is a slang word, used with numerous meanings, for example for "superintendent"--actually for anyone having a superior position over another. In the context of which we are discussing the word, "super" is most used as a shortened form of "supervisor," but it's not uncommon to hear the word shortened further to "supe"--but I think the bottom line is whether Josh intended to use "supe" or "super" he was referring to Sarah, the office's new supervisor.

3. "Keys of what?" He states, "I may have had a few too many – these keys are starting to run together on me"--obviously the keys of his KEYboard, for if you notice in the next paragraph he runs a comma and a period key next to each other (,.) and later runs the keys together to form "Itswas."

4. You add, "and what better way to get info out of people than to get them drunk???" Are you implying Josh was trying to get info out of a drunk Clive and Sarah, or the other way around?

Yes, you may be onto something, or not, but I agree with Chainsaw that the "unexpected title" has been sufficiently explained as being 112 and part of the password to the chat function on STIES.

Melodyman;

I'm following you when you say Josh came across the items left to him at his mother's death and tried to sell them on craigslist—though the fact he had no price on any of them seemed quirky—could he have just been using craigslist as a means of catching the attention of someone who could answer some questions about the bigger picture, namely what he mentioned on ATS—seeking someone to validate photos, footage, etc? Confused

And if Josh came into possession of the PDP-11, rather than what we're seeing on STIES as being possibly a virtual console (if I made sense out of earlier posts that reasoned on this issue), I've got to say I don't see how Josh would know what to do with it, how to hook it up to the net, etc. because quite honestly, Josh is either VERY smart and playing the role of a dumbbell with an Academy Award winning performance, or he's merely a dumbbell not playing a role at all. He doesn't have the sense to know (or by inference) to even know HOW to educate himself to the level of knowledge, to know that keeping a coelacanth in an aquarium is something that scientists have not been able to accomplish. He idiotically answers Mysterio's questions—giving him the store—and yet not getting an answer out of Mysterio.

It's really quite pathetic—Mysterio says, "jump", and Josh is like, "Yup, yup, yup, I'm gonna jump alright, I'll show you I'm not gonna play your cryptic games, nope, nope, nope—Oh, and is there anything else you want? My social security number? Sure, just a moment, here it is, and my credit card number? Well, OK, garsh, ya talked me into it, yup, yup, yup."
And if Mysterio is Josh's dad, I can only imagine what he's thinking--"I thought I had made it quite clear to Evelynn's caregiver that Josh was NOT to be home schooled!" Rolling Eyes

Josh's role

So we have figured HL&M is part of the game. We know that the craiglist items were tied because they have sort of led us back to Josh and Evelyn. My curiosity comes from why was there such an elaborate phone message about the funeral? Who was Josh trying to contact. Was there message there we missed? Altough the funeral was part of the game and the time and place, why? What did it have to do with the price of tea in China?

I am waiting to see what the next lunar calendar shows. I emailed Josh at HL&M and have never heard back from him. But I did email him a bit ago and asked where's the new calendar. As far as the cryptic letters missing in the 112 message and the lion and blue can. There could be so odd reference to the pictures. Why would he even mention the Bobbit Worm. Nothing is mentioned without an underlying meaning. Question

simplicity;

You mentioned:
the "elaborate phone message about the funeral" and if Josh was trying to contact someone. From the memorial card pieced together from the craigslist postings, we can infer that Josh's mom died before April 15, and we can assume that the 1-800 number went up around that time. Josh's post on Above Top Secret was on May 6 (http://abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread83236/pg12), so I think you're putting the cart ahead of the horse, in that the 1-800 number went up before he presumably found the items—at the very least, before he sought outside help.

But, who knows?

I see what you mean

I may be seeing too much in hopes of there being more. Reviewing the order of event, Evelyn's death, the craigslist items, the sties site picture with the message, the mp3 file with voices, the next sties photo with the website clue for the foghorn112 and now a pause. Putting Josh's side in a nutshell. That doesn't include the initial rscom8 print message and the rocketpoppeteer tie in, the Braegen 14 file with noises and the miscellaneous icon at the bottom of the sties site.

I guess you're right. I want to see aliens and conspiracy and not plainly what's in front of me.
