[SPEC] The Secret Task In my opinion, every crewmember that has been assigned a secret task has now become in-game, and open to our spec.
So what do you think the task is? Is it eavesdropping on us? Placing ads in the newspaper? Dressing up as robots and dance on a streetcorner on Nov 9 while handing out Halo 2 playable demos?

Well, it seems like Melissa is still suspect of herself (like she knows the Flea is messing with her). Since she's satisified that the few people she's contacted ARE her crew members, perhaps she's setting them up as independent fact-checkers she can rely on while she's not feeling herself- a safeguard against the evil machinations of the Flea.

I think she is going to ask them to fill in the blanks of her memory. Probably answering with information obtained in the .wav files.

Has every crewmember been asked to carry out a secret task? Or is it just a select few?

maybe they now have this unexplainable urge to head to Wyoming and find that the Apocolypso is now parked/crashed on top of Devil's Tower?
Mashed potato sculpture, anyone?

For that matter, I wonder if they would get a call saying, "I can't trust you" or something if they told us... and then would they be replaced? Not that we'll ever find out. :P
As for the task itself, I'm not very good at spec. Just no ideas. Note the postcount. :)

Well, I can tell you for sure, that I have recieved no orders yet. But then again, the minute I do, I probably won't be spreading it around. That was one of the conditions of the thing.

I suspect that it has something to do with providing new memories which will be recorded and used later.

fwiw, I don't recall her asking me to keep anything secret. But I could've missed that bit, or misremembered my conversation with her from earlier .
She did stress the importance of archiving, though, and recording things.

No hidden tasks yet. Although I would understand if you don't believe me. It is, however, not in my character to lie.
Omit yes. Lie no.
I promise to shut up as soon as I get secret tasks that I'm not supposed to tell you about.

You have a very good point here that I think most are missing. These
crew members are now in-game. This combined with the phrase "secret
tasks" sounds akin to undercover work.
Regardless of what any crew member says, I know that if it was me and
Melissa wanted me to be hush hush, I'd at least go along with it for
awhile.
We always report in ASAP so the later phone call could be the serious
conversation where they are asked to perform a task. Let the excitement
wear off, give them a chance to think about keeping quiet.
At this point they are willingly mid-level PM's or puppets.
Or we could call them PMuppets!!!
Edit: Do not read this with scorn. Thanks.

I don't. I actually find it akin to praise. I find it exhilerating and amusing to be among the PMuppets.
And I can promise you that if I was asked to keep something secret, I would omit it from what I post here or say to anyone else.
[META][SPEC] It sounds like from the transcripts that have been given so far, that we're being recorded. If that's the case, then these conversations may be mastered and released during or at the end of the game so that others can listen in to this part of the story. [/SPEC][/META]

i also like the idea of the player becoming a plaything.
no secret tasks here either. but if i get one, well, i'll have to keep it secret. it seems these AIs can get pretty vindictive.
as for archiving, i guess i should invest in one of those recorder do-hickies so i can fulfill my obligations to the game...

It does sound like different crew members got different directives.
