@iFaux: don't forget about the Afroman in Alex's channel background going all Black Eyed Kid on us.

@Scion: actually, given that they're videogames fans and the Silent Hill settings took inspiration from Centralia (they directly lifted some locations, I think) the [Continue?] hint might just have the meaning you're giving it here - sort of, we lost a "life" (Jessa's? Damsel's? Linnie's?... they like to kill/disappear their girls, it seems) but now we can influence the events to not lose another one.

Why would we, the unorganized and spread out masses, be called upon to "take over" as it were.

How would one even go about that?

Well, say they have a vague idea of what they want to happen, or points they need for the plot. They give out vague clues for us. We the players decide what the clues mean, and when we hit the right interpretation, they follow it.
They "followed" our suggestion to Brooklyn. They obviously had a place in mind. The bag was found near Centralia, that's no coincidence. Without us searching for the answer, their characters wouldn't logically be able to come up with those places in the context of the story.

So do we still buy the original story? I mean, "let's make a video series about healthy living, let's add some Slender Man for fun, oh the real one showed up, that's no fun". As we've learned more about their past, I think it's fully possible that they knew what they were doing - or, let's say, that one of them knew, and pretty much used the whole group as bait. I'm looking at you, Jeff.

It's quite likely Jeff is hiding something, perhaps from the other Hybrids crew.

Hm. Maybe pointing him toward the two remaining medical reports will encourage him to finally reveal what was in the one that got shredded.

Sometimes it seems like these kids share the same ethos as the characters from LOST, where withholding information was apparently the highest virtue. Wink

Wow. This ARG has been delivering mindfucks at every turn since Cops. Hell, since 78of76.avi. I love it so much. Very Happy

I don't really have much to say; I'm getting a niggling feeling that we need to See The Words a little clearer before we [Continue?], but...On the subject of Candle Cove and Centralia...I found a funny little coincidence.

Candle Cove Creepypasta:

Quote:

Subject: Re: Candle Cove local kid's show?
it seems really familiar to me…..i grew up outside of ashland and was 9 yrs old in 72. candle cove…was it about pirates? i remember a pirate marionete at the mouth of a cave talking to a little girl

Centralia article on Wiki:

Quote:
In 1984, the U.S. Congress allocated more than $42 million for relocation efforts. Most of the residents accepted buyout offers and moved to the nearby communities of Mount Carmel and Ashland. A few families opted to stay despite warnings from Pennsylvania officials.

I agree with this assumption. A basic plot is outlined, yes. But if something is rigid and set in stone, it can't be much fun for a community now, can it? We have some influence, I guarantee you that.

As for you, Rodion...I look at the Welcome to the Ark video.

"What does he have us doing now?"

What did that mean in regards to that, exactly? Was it the start? Is it the middle? Or is it like a Choose Your Own Adventure book? An alternate 'bad end', if you will. I believe someone put that theory up previously.

As for your point about them being gamers, nev...yes, it's possible. I took it as either a literal 'video game' sort of interpretation or as a [Continue?] in regards to the plot. Not sure either is correct, but it's fun to think about. Also...wow. I talk too much. POSTS AHOY.

...And to post yet again, that is a fantastic Wiki quote there, Sol.

It ties in perfectly, especially the Ashland bit. Lot of ashes up in that area, apparently. Razz

I don't think we can literally "take over the game." I do think it's possible given these boxes that they want us to confront the guys with the information, since we were prodded to follow the coordinates. I think some of them already know this info and I think it's time to not just leave it up to Jeff or Evan IG.

My mind? Blown. Yup. These are some of the cleverest kids around.

This is compelling. But I'm getting more suspicious of Vince, who is apparently Slendy's preciousssss. Maybe, in the eternally recurring saga of the Hybrids, Vince is the instigator, Jeff is the perpetuator, and Evan is the terminator. Like Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos, except dudes.

Hey, guys, just thought of something. The "[Continue?]", it's in brackets. Another thing that was in bracket's? From Slushpops and Surprises: "[ENTER THE TRAGIC HERO AND HIS UNATTAINABLE COMPANION.]"

Now, admittedly, I have no clue what this connection could mean, but, just wanted to point out that there might be *some* connection... and, I don't remember if we ever figured out what the [ENTER...COMPANION] thing even meant

Well, coal tends to rise a lot of black dust that looks like ash.

Just had a thought: little Vince seemed to be pretty... I won't say "pal", but still... with the Slenderman. Slendy saved him from a probable pedophile, it seems, or at least stopped the abuse, althought his reasons were probably along the lines of "stop ruining my prey, he'll taste stingy!"

So, that might be why Vince wasn't really scared in the beginning? Because maybe, subconsciously, he used to see the Slenderman as the "good guy", because he was "saved" by him as a child?

@Darxbloop: whoah, that might be a good catch. Press Enter to start, press Continue to go on after you die... Also, don't you "name" characters in games? We "named" Damsel, didn't we?

I really don't think Slender Man would kill someone by eviscerating them, though. That seems more like something the Rake would do, going along with the scratch marks and scars on the Reverend's dog.

But I really don't know what to make of these letters yet, so it could just as well have been Slender Man, I guess?

I don't think anyone's saying we're literally supposed to take over the game, or at least I'm not. I think they want the illusion that we're in charge. They give us something vague, we look into it and when we find what they're loking for, they "follow". That's how their characters can logically "get" their information.

A lot of you seem to be running under the assumption that the Vince and Evan from these letters are the same as Vince and Evan Hybrids. That would definitely require either time travel or suspended animation of some sort.

So we gonna say that's what happened, or are the Vince and Evan in the letters different from our Hybrids?
