Re: Arthurs power,

I did find the excerpt which makes the arguement that Excaliburs' Scabbard
held the power of Arthur:

Quote:
As they rode the King looked lovingly on his sword, which Merlin saw, and, smiling, said, Which do you like best, the sword or the scabbard? 'I like the sword,' answered Arthur. 'You are not wise to say that,' replied Merlin, 'for the scabbard is worth ten of the sword, and as long as it is buckled on you you will lose no blood, however sorely you may be wounded.

Good spot.. I really feel like this should be something to do with it actually, the scabbard is mentioned a lot in Arthurian legends as being magic - it protected Arthur from being harmed in battle. Morgana Le Fay eventually stole it from Arthur and threw it into a lake after being frustrated at her attempts to kill him, and it is this that leads to his eventual death.

But scabbard itself doesn't work Sad - neither does sheath, and I can't think of any other good synonyms. Did Excalibur's scabbard have a special name of it's own?

No Name

There is ,unfortunately, no name recorded associated to the scabbard. I have also been trying different names for Excalibur as well thinking that maybe since the puzzle used the old welsh term for emperor "amerauder" that maybe they are looking for the old welsh name for the sword, but still no luck.
We have got to be close , I am running out of ideas.

Brendan replied to the yahoo group he mentions the scabbard but he says it was wrong for him. i suppose hes telling us we are missing something

Hey everyone, Brendan here. I've been doing two things at once:
working on the deceased website of the Order and looking at the
Project Gateway page. And cleaning the library... but that's
another story...

The latest update makes a little bit of sense... but not really.
Personally, I always thought that the Scabbard of King Arthur was
his power because when it was with him he never got hurt, but it
looks like I'm wrong, because I'm getting a 404 error. Could I be
missing something?

On the other side, this website is blasted hard to bring back. I
keep finding bits and pieces of it in the System Restore, because
apparently it all didn't delete correctly. So some of it was never
deleted, some of it was deleted, and some of it was, dare I say it,
partially deleted? Yeah, Strike's messing with the website made
parts of it totally invulnerable to deletion, which is good, in a
way.

Anyway, I'll update you guys when I get some more information.

-Brendan

metal.key found

If you type scabbard you get a 404 page which contains the next key in its source file:

///----------------------\
//| |
//| I am metal. |
//| I am the concealed |\_______________________________
//| blade of death. | \
//| Use me, and you | \
//| shall unlock |________________________________ /
//| man's candle snuffer.| ____ _ __ ___ _/
//| |/ \ / \ / \_/ \ /
//| | \/ \ / \ /
//| Gate#3219 | \_/ \/
//\-----------------------/

Yep you're right. Good job. I had the feeling that I should have been a little more paranoid and looked at the source of all the 404 pages I got.

BTW, just as a point of reference for future "key posts"... if you put the "copy & pasted" keys in the post, it looks jumbled, which is fine, but if you put it in "code", it comes out correctly. For example, the most recent key:

First, just pasted:

/----------------------\
| |
| I am metal. |
| I am the concealed |\_______________________________
| blade of death. | \
| Use me, and you | \
| shall unlock |________________________________ /
| man's candle snuffer.| ____ _ __ ___ _/
| |/ \ / \ / \_/ \ /
| | \/ \ / \ /
| Gate#3219 | \_/ \/
\-----------------------/

Then, pasted with "code" formatting:

Code:

/----------------------\
|                       |
|  I am metal.          |
|  I am the concealed   |\_______________________________
|  blade of death.      |                                \
|  Use me, and you      |                                 \
|  shall unlock         |________________________________ /
|  man's candle snuffer.| ____    _       __   ___      _/
|                       |/    \  / \     /  \_/   \    /
|                       |      \/   \   /          \  /
|     Gate#3219         |            \_/            \/
\-----------------------/

I know it's nitpicky, but this way it's cool for all to see what you really saw in the source or whatever... Thanks for dealing with my anal-ness... Laughing

Yes, the last time when a false 404 page contained a key it was looking like the normal Internet Explorer error page. It was immediately obvious as comcast.net has a custom 404 page. Now the key was hidden in a replica of the custom page. Mean.
