Who is Mysterio? Friend? Foe? Motives? Speculation? Thoughts? Sometime back I had a rather disturbing thought about how this ARG is playing out—seeing how Fringe has picked up the "X-Files" baton and seemingly successfully ran with it, the strange is what makes JJ's day—and I'm certainly a fan of the strange; the Fortean Times would have been required reading if I had lived back in the day.
In fiction, and in particular, science fiction, virtually any, and every, thing is possible—the themes of Fringe prove that point, and if you're a writer, who's to say that behind that door is not a portal to the most horrific place imaginable?
We've talked about Josh, and for lack of a better term for him/her/them, we've taken to calling his counter Mysterio (or if you're Melodyman, you add "so" to the end—but it really doesn't matter, it's semantics for the one we don't know), but what if...
Josh was involved with something when he was younger that so traumatized him that his mind kicked in to protect him by blocking out the experience. And what if the experience was of such importance to the government that for years they gently tried to coax it out of him without success. Suppose the incident also, in some way, involved the father that Josh never knew growing up. Or did he know him? Was the event so traumatic that, with the help of others, Josh was led to believe that he never knew his father growing up. Was there someone close to Josh (either working hand-in-hand with, or for, the government) who for years attempted to nudge Josh's memory of the event back into focus?
How much to we know about Josh's mother, Evelyn, little other than she had "favorite charities." Do we know what she died of? Was it expected, or did her death come as a shock to those who knew her? Was it a funeral with a casket (open), or a memorial, possibly indicating that she had (or wanted to give the impression) of having been cremated?
What if she didn't die? What if she was the one working close with Josh to coax out memories of a particular experience? Could her death be faked? Given the government—given the story—of course. And if, if this had happened, the time-line would be right for her being Mysterio, and through the trauma of "her death," capitalize on it to stimulate Josh's memory by leaving him items that she knows may have had a connection with Josh and his father.
Just a thought...

Well, the question is more than important. Because Mysterio is the key character in the story.
But I have some doubts about Mysterio beeing probably mother of Josh. I actually hope, that she is alive, and perhaps is accompanying Joshs father in their secret mission, but... Mysterio as Joshs mother is just psycologically not fitting. I mean, if his mother would fake here fate and than chat with Josh in this cold and anonymous tone, it weren't his real mother. I mean, mother instinct and stuff. Perhaps.
But we have really to discuss the identity of Mysterio.
On the other hand, what if he is Joshs father?

Lol, multipsychoapopheniosis!
Well, why not? Mystero as Coelacanth!
So in this case Josh was looking for a Coelacanth, but Coelacanth found Josh

Hehe, not again
Perhaps it would be cool, if it were Josh himself from the future. Well, I know, the most dumb hypothesis today, lol. I've trank too much coffee.

Gramma;
In contrast to your "Luke, I am your father" photo from Star Wars, considering my thought about Mysterio/Mom, I just recalled the Mary Rice/David Rice moment at the conclusion of "Jumper." Can't recall much, but just came to my mind for some reason.

The movie, I'm sure. The book was entirely different in regards to character development.

Yeah, for the most part it's bad when they change the book...
though I'm glad they did change the ending in "The Natural."
I just can't see Roy Hobbs throwing the game, and then when Kirk Gibson had his "Roy Hobbs" moment in the World Series, I've gotta admit, that'll be one of those sports moments I can't imagine ever forgetting.

The movie didn't change the book at all, it's still the same way it was before. The movie is different from the book, that is all. I don't like it when one says a movie changes a book. Call it a pet peeve of mine. They are two different mediums that cannot simply be ported without substance loss. Something has got to give.
Anyways, that was off topic! Mysterio is a terrible name for this fellow. I suggest... Rand Miller. Yep. I like it!

We all have pet peeves, and I'm not criticizing you--I just had recalled how in the Bernard Malamud's novel, Roy struck out and and the impression was that Roy had taken up the Judge's offer and threw the game.
I'm in complete agreement that there is no way (that I can conceive of) for a novel to be perfectly replicated on film. In novels, we add so many details to flesh out the book, whereas on film, there's really no doubt about how Princess Lea (probably wrong spelling) looks, walks, and her accent.

I think the "Mysterio" name is cool. It conveys his myseriousness and that his identity is a mystery - oooooh yeah it's a mystery.
