Josh in the movie

What if its a body snatcher type of alien? 1979 Josh at some point was taken over by the alien. Hence Josh is now the alien unbeknownst to him. No recollection of what happened and what the items he has found are. It's a stretch. Maybe Josh's "dad" is the original alien?

I didn't see anyone else mention this... sorry if I'm repeating it...

If Josh was 13-14 in 1979 that would make him 44-45ish today.

If Josh is named after his dad and Josh Senior was 13-14 in 1979 and we assume Josh Senior had Josh Jr. at around 23 in 1989 then Josh jr. would only be about 21 right now... So by the feel of the blog is Josh a really lame 21 year old!? or an eccentric 44 year old... Or neither!? I kinda pictured him to be in his late 30's....

idk, i think he would be closer to 44 so i like the theory that IncidentCloverfield had... that Josh took the footage but his dad was the one who delt with the aftermath of it all. either that or he was abducted and his age is all off (like the pple who were abducted in CEOT3K who didn't age...)

sorry to pop up out of no where... I've been following you guys for months, but didn't join because the firewalls at my work wouldn't let me... and you're all so smaaaaart it's intimidating...

Reviewing Craiglist Items

I'm with MIMI about Josh's age. He comes across like a 20 something. Not too bright but old enough to drink and work. Very Happy But given that, I have questions about the money he was left. During his mother's funeral donations were taken to be given to his mother's favorite charities. Now, the question lies in did he get the money from donations, or did he keep the money that his mom wanted donated?

Also, what were his mother's favorite charities? None were mentioned by name. And, why did Josh select the items he selected to be sold on craigslist? They were innocuous items. A green and white dress, a horse clock, a cactus cookie jar, an old sled, a seafoam green ceramic swan and a pill box hat. Other than them referring to the west ( the cactus and horse) and the time frame (the pill box hat, seafoam green swan and dress) and the fact that it snows at this mysterious location (the sled) There was no rhyme or reason for the items sold. They are clues to a location not yet figured out. So I think. Does anyone think the same?

If this has already been brought up fish me. But I cannot say that I have read any posts of the like.

Josh's age

Well first clue is his Yahoo name, HLM1963. It's not confirmed but I feel this is his birth year.

Secondly, the items for sale on CL were some fairly dated items. The dress seems to be a style from the late 60's early 70's. The horse clock has a 60's western nostalgia to it. The pillbox hat is very Jackie O which dates it in the 60's as well. We assume these items are Evelyn Minker's which would give her a birth year around 1940ish.

There is no way Josh's dad could be one of the kids in the movie. The Josh we know today had to grow up around the 1979 timeframe. The more I look at what is happening here I feel that Josh is not going to be a main player in the movie but his dad will be a key player. That would make sense of the fact Josh has no idea or recollection of what the significance of the items he has found pertain to.

Well, Josh says he has over 2 decades of experience with aquariums and fish, so unless he started at 5 years old, he must be at least 30 and probably more like 40'ish..

Now, if the film takes place in 1979 and concerns some kids who catch something on Super 8 film, if Josh was one of the kids, surely he would be old enough to remember his dad...unless his dad was already missing.. In fact, for Josh not to ever have known his dad, His dad would have had to leave when Josh was quite young.. before he was old enough to remember him..and if Josh was one of the kids who took the Super 8 film, he would know about the scariest thing ever on it..Unless they never knew they filmed it..

So, as it sits now, Josh might just be the son of a Mr Minker who vanished in the 60's.. neither of whom may be part of the movie at all..If Mr Minker was in the movie, then we know something is wrong because we would already know he's been missing since the 60's or so.. so how could he be in a movie in 1979?

Who knows??
I wish they wouldnt start these things so early on before the release..It drives ya nuts waiting for a scrap every few weeks...

I feel like our interaction/knowledge with Josh is far more personal than I thought was allowed before film release. I feel like he may be affiliated with the film storyline but not directly. He may be the son of someone present at the 1979 altercation, and perhaps others were present too. Like, a group of present day adults who disappeared back in '79 where one happened to have a kid named Josh.

Josh's role

Oka, so let's say that Josh was born in 1963 as his yahoo address suggests. That would make him 15 or 16 in 1979 when the movie allegedly takes place.

That could make him too old to be one of the kids in the movie. But that doesn't discount the fact that his mother and father were part of the mess. Given that he never knew his dad, that could make the objects that escape the train the reason why he didn't get to know his dad. His dad was one of the people who put the train car creatures where they initially were. It could also be the connective tisue for Josh, Evelyn and his absent father to the storyline. Josh has never disclosed what happened to his father. One would think that's a question a young boy would ask his mother. He never illucidates on any details about his father. As if he was completely clueless as to who he was. So the fly in the ointment is Evelyn Minker. Why didn't she tell her son about his dad? At least what kind of work he did or even make up a tale about him. Evelyn seems to be the holder of secrets. We may be concentrating on Josh because he's in our face, but I think Evelyn is the one we need to research more.

I think that every one of these sound bytes have just been wild sound taken during production of this actual film. The beeps sound like a camera turning on or off, esp a panisonic or consumer grade camera. It sounded to me like someone said b roll, and someone else said background.. could easily be referring to the background noise needed during post production.

OK, but what relation would that have to the ARG?

It might not be related to the game, it could be an in game easter egg.

I suppose that could very well be--this is my first ARG, and Team JJ could very well believe in egg laying hares, but it just seems that with him minutiae means much, but we will see what we will see.

Assume from Josh's email that he is 47 - 1963 hlm1963SPLATyahoo.com
