It actually doesn't appear to be anything either? Not a legitimate photo in any case.
The password makes sense... This is a Red Herring but to distract us from WHAT then, in that case?

Hi Folks -
Just lurking, mostly. I was interested in the possible url at the bottom of the decrypted text "httpwww1283z"...
www.1283z.com gives nothing, but
http://www.1283.com/
gives what seems to be some sort of storage site hosted by Giant Games, with a simple search field. 'CBA' and 'Thief' don't yield any results at all. Not sure if this site is IG or not, but maybe worth looking at?

Leyton hello. When you select "view" the zip file opens to a picture of a red herring titled "Video3.gif". Happy to attach it here 'tho think it's a waste of space.
CBA latest entry posted my email on their blog. Last time I will try to sweet talk info from them. Also Hi & TY MensVenatus
EDIT: Just noticed this tidibt hidden in the source code. "T" hacks CBA?

Hey Amandel! Long time!
Everytime I read CBA, I think British "Internet" lingo for "Can't be Asked/Ar$ed" lmao.
Hmmm I'm still boggling in my mind about what exactly we were distracted from now though, doesn't seem "kosher" to distract people unless of course
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The PM is a little "Preoccupied" and we've been a bit quick...?
@MensVenatus - That appears to be just a search engine; we've come across similar ones in these situations before where people thought you were supposed to input a "Key word" - Never know could be legit but I think it's little more than just that.
Thank you though!

After looking around October 1990 take it to be a reference to Monkey Island in which the solution is the same.
Well it doesn't get much more obscure than that... How were we supposed to figure out that reference (in the original game, you gave the red herring to a troll)?!?

I'm unable to see the image. I have used the password and unzipped but I can't open the jpg. Would someone be so kind as to post it?

No worries TRodS. FWIW have checked with "WinHip", Camouflage etc. for anything hidden in the gif. image.

That is indeed a herring and it is red.

So it's a password protected zip ... that contains a JPEG that should be renamed to a ZIP ... that contains a GIF image ... of a red herring?
Well that was a freakin' waste. Someone care to explain what this is all about?
FWIW: The zip file was made on a Mac.

Dude it's exactly what it says it is... A red herring, leading us to zilch. That's usually the point of a red herring bro lol.
My point here being is... What exactly is it distracting us from?

See, I'm from the school of thought where the effort should be matched by the reward.
Why give us a "puzzle" we put effort in to solving, even though we're not apparently expected to solve it (I still fail to see how we would have ever come up with that answer), only to have the solution be insignificant?
ARGs are not meant to be exercises in futility.

was lurking for a bit here, but have to jump in a little bit.
So the CBA released the zip saying it would let us know who mr flemming really is.
So basically this was a roundabout way to say that Mr Flemming is a red herring, stop looking for Mr Flemming.
Am I the only one thinking this?

Oh By the way, tineye says the picture of the red herring is used elsewhere.
http://www.tineye.com/search/44e44ee5936c36c8a5a721ead1e1fbc0d1375e38/
And has many names ususally coinciding with red_herring (though the original seems to be on there as well, just a simple herring non-red.)
So why does ours have the name Video3.gif?

Wasn't one of futility but more an exercise in hostility imo. Along with the content of their latest update the CBA are calling us and Flemming trolls I think. And as Snorkle & Leyton suggest they're hoping to distract us from questioning who they are.

Well, it was said that this would show us who Flemming was. Maybe they're telling us that Flemming is the red herring. Maybe they're telling us that Flemming is distracting us from something? I don't quite know. But I think

Now you can know who this man really is.
indicates that it's talking about Flemming
