Yeah, ChildOfAtom, I listened to that too. Radiolab has been my favorite NPR program for a couple of years. I was SUPER STOKED to hear about this.

You remember the episode they did about War of the Worlds? I was immediately reminded of ARGs.

Soo, for all the people saying how everything related to the EMH Crew, but out of game, is stalkerish and invasions of privacy, and to the couple of people saying that all the silly "Evance" stuff and stuff* is creepy, I just wanted to post something from Jessa (after she posted her "Lose It" video, I sent her a message, she replied, and now we're just talking about stuff (not talking to her about IG stuff at all, ever. That'd be cheating)

Actually, we find stuff like that on the threads really funny. we think it's entertaining. Im sure its fine to link my youtube and jeffs old one and our duel one whenever. i mean, if we didnt want them to be seen, then we should just take them down. I think the only thing that should be off limits is FB.

Soo, while any OOG EMH stuff should definitely, definitely stay out of the On-Topic EMH thread, and while their FB pages will always be off-limits, I don't think we should shun all the OOG stuff so vehemently. The EMH Crew is full of really cool, fun people, and, as long as no one's a creeper about it or pesters their OOG stuff with IG stuff, I think that we should, y'know, enjoy their other work if we want to without feeling like stalkers o.O

And also it clearly means we have their approval to keep writing Evance fanfiction [/silly]

Soo, yeah! Just wanted to post that. Please do not stone me *too* hard D=

*Stuff and stuff. That's some good descriptive writing right thar

I'm glad they find it amusing. But I still disapprove. Haha.

Changing subjects, I found my "a chainsaw beats rock paper & scissors" shirt the other day. I was more excited than usual to see it. Very Happy
The reason I bought that shirt in the first place? The first thing that ran my head (and thus, the first thing that came out of my mouth) upon seeing it was, "It's true, because if you had a chainsaw, you could just cut off their hands." I think I found it far too amusing. Haha

So I realize everyone's busy feeling terrible today, but I had an idea a while back that might make things not-so-terrible around here.

EMH CREW DON'T HOVER YOUR MOUSES HERE

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So the idea struck me while I was Christmas shopping online: how fun would it be to buy Christmas gifts for the crew? At first I thought it was too ambitious, but hear me out... we could pool our funds, or each pick a guy/girl to buy for, or even just be like that lame estranged uncle of yours who buys you a Hallmark card/gift card in lieu of actually bothering getting to know you.

And then, it gets even crazier!... we could send the loot to a Hybrid in the area, and... geocache it! And then post the coordinates and make them go find it! And depending on who's still alive by the holidays, we could decide if we wanted to make it 'out-of-game' or 'in-game', maybe under the pretense that we know they're going through rough times and just wanted to do something nice for them.

Would this be too crazy, even for us? What do you guys think? I bet we could so pull it off.

Mira, this is the most adorable and fantastic idea.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I would totally be willing to help out with money if this becomes an actual thing. If it's during the month or so that I'm home for winter break I could leave/cache some things, too. For all the effort that goes into making the series, they totally deserve some Cool Things.

Yes.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
That would be indescribably awesome. But who would manage all this? I'm totally up for it.

!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
That's a completely awesome idea, Mira!! Being a Californian, I wouldn't be able to help Geocache, like, anything, but I'll definitely be on the lookout for stuff I think they'd like =D! And If I find something, I'll just mail it to the/a geocacher.

I'm not sure if this is something we'd be able to do or not, but... maybe one of us buys a copy of House of Leaves, signs in, sends it to the next Hybrid, they sign it, and so on and so forth? Could that be an idea?

If we get a lot of people in on this, we should probably take it somewhere off-board so the whole conversation doesn't have to happen in one thread under spoiler tags. It seems like something that requires a lot of organization, which is kind of hard to get around here, haha.

Also, I like the signed book idea, but every time it was sent to a new person someone would have to pay shipping - it'd probably be easier/cheaper to pass along a holiday card. And it would be easier if it originated from the person who lives farthest west and then goes east, for the sake of time. Unless that is dumb, in which case I am bad at planning and ignore me!

I guess first we'd have to decide what we'd want to do. I think it would be more awesome and less shady if everyone just put together their own thing to send to them -- we'd just have to make sure that nobody gets left out (not even Daniel!). And I think geocaching only one 'box' might be more realistic, so we'd have to make sure it all fit into whatever receptacle we decide to use (no, I do not think we should hang them from bags in trees).

I think the first step is finding a Hybrid from NJ who would be willing to receive all of our stuff and actually place it for us.

I love the House of Leaves idea.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I doubt these rollovers are actually effective, but it's more mysterious this way.

I could cache the stuff if it's during the time I'm home for winter break, which I assume it would be. I'm sure there are some people who are closer, but I could definitely do it if no one nearer is interested. I agree that it should all be one big cache, it just means we can't buy anything gigantic.

Super mysterious!

So, should we set up a temporary forums for this sort of discussion, then PM everyone the link (and hope no one's really a plant O=!)?

(I'd do it myself, but it's late and I'll be on the road for 6 hours tomorrow morning xP)

And, yeah! One big geo-cache. Does anyone have some purple duct tape ;P?

Would you be willing to give everyone your address, though? Or do you have a PO Box address we could send it to?

Gonna shed the spoiler tags for a minute and ask if anyone knows a good website/program where we can meet and brainstorm

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Operation Christmas Elf Geocache

@Darxbloop there's also the possibility that we could always

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
hide it without any markers in one of the locations they've already given us, just to be extra certain that nobody else stumbles upon it (but at the same time, where's the fun in not making them work for it?)

Yes, purple duct tape instead of wrapping paper. Or else just...purple wrapping paper. Probably a lot less messy that way.

Yeah, a temporary forum (nothing fancy, just a proboards-type thing with a default layout) would probably serve well if we're going to do this. I would set it up, but I have class in the morning and it's already past 2:30.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
@Mira: I assume that, if we're going to do the card/book-signing thing, there's going to be a lot of address swapping. I don't particularly mind giving out my address privately; I don't think anyone's a creepy stalker. But if there's someone closer than me it would probably be preferable just because it's winter and I'd likely be taking public transportation. If it comes to it, though, the address thing is fine with me. Smile
