This is not Porn spinoff

Here's a little trail inspired from Thisisnotporn.com that's been going around our office:
http://deathball.net/notpron/

I'm currently stuck on 11 and it seems only 6 people has succesfully completed it.

http://deathball.net has a section giving out small hints for the 7 first pages.

This is cool! Any idea how many pages it's got? There are some really clever little ideas in it.

Man, I'm totally stuck on page four... I feel like a dweeb. Embarassed

edit: I know I need a password and username, but I must be overthinking this one...

I'm on number six.

Heres a hint for number 4:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Note the dashes and dots on the side of the dresser.

edit: I'm on 10 now

Any hints for number 3?! I've tried things involving the - and . characters, as well as several others... Not quite sure what to do next!

For anyone who feels stupid (like me) and can't figure any of these out, here's my "Cheat sheet" so far...

Spoilers!

Room 1:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Just click on the door knob

Room 2:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

In the source for the page, there is a javascript function called "ReturnTruth()" with an error condition to direct to ../false
Replace the /not/whydidhedie.htm part of the url with /false and you'll go to the next page. I don't know if this is the correct solve, but it works.

Room 3:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The german translation of the song is "You are always so negative". There are hint pages at both negative.htm and positive.htm. The positive.htm gives the best clue clue: lol no! the folder rather than the file.

Change the url from false/gototheothersite.htm to true/gototheothersite.htm for room 4.

Room 4:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

There is morse code on the dresser. It looks to me like:
.... . .-.. .--.
-.. --- --- --

Which is translated: HELPDOOM.

EDIT: the puzzle changed!
The morse is now:
. .- .-. .-.. -.-- -.. . .- - ....
which translates to: EARLY DEATH

You can click on the dresser knob to get the login box.
When you change the url to that address, you're asked for a login ID and password. ID early PW death

Room 5:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

There's a remote control on the right side, which lets you click on the On button to get a login box. The name of the page is "a bloke named smokey" which might or might not be a hint. There's a definite hint in the source:
<!-- "username" the "password" -->

maybe another clue: there is a link to an invalid javascript file called ../stuff/jjsjsjsjsjsj.js

Still stuck on 5. Bit more info: the song 'a bloke named smokey' features a character called 'minnie the moocher'. I tried just about every combination of smokey/minnie/username that I could think of, but none worked.

edit: Duh, it's minnie/moocher didn't think to just use the same name.

EDIT: NOT ANYMORE
The puzzle's changed again. The hints now are:
title: google/ifyourloveshouldfail.htm
password clue: beautiful life

the name of the song with that line is "some things"
ID some PW things

Room 6:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

a bit tricky. There's an iframe with white-on-white text -- the numbers

112 104 101 108
109 111 111 100

alt-numpad them into notepad and get "phel mood" scrambled. click on the wheel link (which is backwards spelt, well, backwards) and get another login box. ID help PW doom

Room 7: (this one's just nasty -- no shame in spoiling it)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

ooh, a toughie! Nothing really revealing in the source, a minor hint:
<!-- times have changed in deutschland -->
There seems to be some writing on the left side of the desk, ecceh, but I don't know what it could mean. there also appears to be an anarchy sign on the mirrored part of the crumbled paper.

The url is called "tieman.htm" - backwards, it spells "name it". nameit.htm gives a clue:
No, name what you see on the pic, go back!

I'm a horrible person. I searched the quote above, and found a *gasp* spoiler site. Ahh well, I didn't really look, but I found out what the thing is on the table. It's a package of Twix. Doh! Bad pic, no cookie for you PM!

7.5 - the aftermath:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Ok, that was lame. Anyway, putting in twix.htm gives "wenoot" - too new backwards (also, xitw.htm gives "too new" correctly. Harumph! Too many clues, not enough good pics!)

Anyway, a search on "Old Twix" reveals they're called "Raiders" by some.
raider.htm gives the message "dnuorayawrehto" (other way around)
rediar.htm (drop the plural) gives us room 8.

more to come.

I'll add new posts as I move further along. Please, if you're ahead of me, post any future solves in SPOILER tags!

Thanks for these!

For number 2 though:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When the trick dialog box comes up, move your mouse over the handle, but press enter to get rid of the box itself. Your pointer should then turn into the hand, and you can click to open the door.

If someone needs clues, PM me... I've cheated (I know.. but I was at work an hour and a half late already... my wife was wondering... Laughing )

It may take me a while to figure it out (I'd have to remember how to get there myself again...) but I'm more than willing to help. And I can do so without the "answers" most of the time. But if you want straight out answers, just let me know, and I can do that too...

I'll bring everybody up to 9 with a few more hints.

First, a few of his (^) hints are not the way I got by the page, I'll post my stratagies first.

Room 2:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The popup says "Trick Me" so, try doing just that. Position your mouse over the doorknob, and click, when the popup comes, press enter, then quickly click again. You'll get by the message.

Room 5:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you google "diamond car with the platinum wheel" You'll get a pretty big hint. Don't forget <!-- "username" the "password" --> !

Room 6:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

View the source, and make note of the include "../stuff/mine.htm".

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Go there and you will get a few numbers. Use you ol' ASCII number chat, and you got your username/pass

More to come when I have more time to type.[/spoiler]

By the way, I'll tell y'all right now, I forgot how to do 8. I'll spoiler what I remember...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
you have to reformat the song/ambient music file into wav or from wav or something, to play it, and then you get lyrics or song title for user/pass, if I'm correct... this puzzle has lots of Beatles and especially Paul McCartney references, BTW.

Just a hint: room 7 is *nasty*. I posted my solve in two bits up on top, in case you don't want the full out answer but just a gentle *nudge*.

Room 8:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

As DM suggested, it seems to be a music puzzle. Gak! Can't do that during work time. Maybe I'll fool around with Audacity during lunch.

Edit: That was an odd one. Downloaded the second MP3s as a web page. The file mus2_mp3 was an HTML document pointing to an image -- mus2.mp3 is a GIF giving the login ID and PW: pitch/down

EDIT: new ID/PW: invert/ten
Weird!

Room 9: (whew, an easy one!)
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

paulisdead.htm is the ominous name of this one, but quite easy to solve I assure you.

In the HTML, the bottom text is made up of span tags and loose text. If you break up the parts of the text that make up the span text, it spells out "turnmeon deadman"

Click on the number 9, and enter the ID turnmeon and PW deadman to get room 10.

Room 10:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

This is the audio puzzle!

There's a wedding ring, that asks for a password if you click on it. But there's no other text on the page, just a weird (and new) sound playing in the background.

Save the mp3 (IE makes it a PITA, I just made this:
<html>
<body>
<a href="http://deathball.net/notpron/stuff/mus3.mp3">
click
</a>
</body>
</html>
so I could right-click and save the link.

Then, I fired up audacity, reversed the sound, and sped it up 400%. You can hear the words "hello stranger" spoken rather machine like. That's your ID/PW.

Room 11:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

EVIL!! EVIL!!

Oh god, I spent a better part of an hour on this, only to be clued in from a google search. I'm proud I didn't get the whole solution from there, but I didn't have any idea where to look until then.

The clue was: check the Sauce (source) for page 11.

The image linked is picture12.jpeg.

Open picture11.jpeg and you'll get the ID and PW. Pump up the contrast to read:

funny/password
EDIT:
This one's changed too.
fucking/pans

EVIL!!!
