Doing Slender Man story treatment for my scriptwriting class
Tips/suggestions?

The assignment is to write a story treatment for a specific genre, so I was deciding between a biopic about Hank Williams or a horror movie/psychological thriller about ol' Slendy. I decided Slendy would be more fun to write about, since I've been getting into the mythos for a few weeks.

I've watched MH, EMH, and TT. I've read Dreams in Darkness. I feel like I have a pretty fair understanding of all of them (besides the maze of barbed wire that is EMH) and how Slender Man stories work. What's all the better, my prof. is big into MH and I recently steered him towards EMH and TT.

But I'm thinking that it'll be told from a limited third-person perspective. Still heavily focalized through the protagonist, and the audience won't learn/see too much that the protagonist doesn't, but I feel like another vlog/documentary gone wrong would just feel too familiar. Although approaching Slendy from the perspective I plan to will likely be a challenge in itself.

In terms of specific story ideas, all I really have planned out is a very loose ending concept. I can post it here if there's interest but spoiling a potential story I haven't even started might not be a good idea. So let me know if you want to hear it.

Anyhow, any specific ideas or suggestions you could offer me, especially in regards to the direction I plan on approaching it from. I'm not concerned about the grade because I know I'll do fine, I just want to do Slender Man justice and maybe add something worthwhile to the mythos.

Thanks in advance!

Oh wow, I'm actually working on a Slender Man screenplay for a screenplay class myself. Deranged paranoid minds think alike, hahaha.

Apparently, haha.

After this assignment I might turn it into either a full screenplay or a short story.

Well I don't have any tips, but here's a list of all (or most) Slenderstories so far, in case you need more insight:

I recommend reading through Seeking Truth Blog and The Tutorial Blog as well, if you haven't already. Good luck!

I have suggestions.

1. Read Just Another Fool, one of the first Slender Man blogs. It's kind of the Marble Hornets of the Slendy blogs.

2. Go through the original Something Awful image thread. The images themselves are inspiring, but there are also short stories in the thread. It'll give you more insight into the general mythology that you don't see in the films.

3. If you have time, take a step back and look at some of the inspiration material for the Slender Man. House of Leaves, Jacob's Ladder, Silent Hill, there's even some Freddy Krueger in Slender Man (stalking children, haunting dreams).

Edited in stuff below.

4. Try to remember what Slender Man is at his core. He isn't tentacles, he isn't a monster in the forest, he's not even a killer. The Slender Man caters to a very specific set of fears: Paranoia, Mounting Dread, Hopelessness, Isolation, and Insanity. Slender Man makes you wish he was something that physically tortured and killed. That's what makes Slender Man so terrifying. He's the creeping doom.

Thanks, man. All great tips. I definitely want to capture the real essence of Slender Man
