That "vii" business, has anyone checked that page in HoL? I was reading the Wikipedia article on the book, and it said something about page xxii and it just got me thinking.

I've never read the book, but is anything there?

Forgive me if this has been mentioned; I left for a while and came back. I'm on page 588. Very Happy

alrighty, i grabbed my copy (which is almost falling apart ) to double check.

the introduction does have the pages labeled in roman numerals. the weird thing , which i hadn't noticed before is that it starts with xi- page 11. There is no page 7. Four pages before that is the copy write info.

Just checked- that's the first page with anything of note, aka the Foreword. It's only stated as page vii in the Table of Contents.

Quote:
The first edition of House of Leaves was privately distributed and did not contain Chapter 21, Appendix II, Appendix III, or the index. Every effort has been made to provide appropriate translations and accurately credit all sources. If we have failed in this endeavor, we apologize in advance and will gladly correct in subsequent printings all erros or omissions brought to our attention.

Chapter 21 is pages 491-521; it's completely devoted to Johnny and the last we see of him. Appendix II has Sketches and Polaroids, The Pelican Poems, Collages, the obituary of Johnny's father, The Three Attic Whalestoe Institute letters from Johnny's mother, and Various Quotes. Appendix III is simply "contrary evidence."

I'm thinking we should look for clues in Appendix II. The Pelican Poems are pretty interesting and Pelafina's (Johnny's Mom) letters actually seems a bit familiar- there's one where she just goes "forgive me" all over the page, and it reminds me a bit too much of GUILTYGUILTYGUILTY.

I don't know how solid 'clues' could be there. I mean, even with the obvious thematic tieins- there's very little i can see in there relating to our boys predicament... Least, how i see it.

Plus wasn't the whole VII thing in response to someones dream?

I'd honestly see House of Leaves tying better into MH than EMH honestly. With the whole quantum house. That being said I think even thats a bit of a stretch.

So.. did you dream the relevance to the sections in HoL?

Or

Did they not actually do that in reference to you dream, and you're just able to dream the future?

With amazing clarity.

There really wasn't a context. It was just a typed up letter with VII's handwritten all over it. Although, I think it got lost somewhere, but there may be some significance to the fact that, in the dream, Vince was the one who handed it to me. Although, that might've just been because he's my favorite.
And honestly, I think it was in response to the dream, because it was another Okie who received the letter. I don't know if I'm being haughty or anything, but I think they were trying to get the letter to me, but since I didn't send in my address, they just picked one that would be relatively close.

If it wasn't a response to the dreams, Dixie has precognitive dreams. That's some talent lol.

I'm sure this has nothing to do with the series, but... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113241/

Well, my family is really weird. I apparently had a great-uncle who did automatic writing, and I'm related to the Grimm family (yes, those Grimms), who owned a grandfather clock that didn't work, yet chimed every time a member of the family died. Surprised

That's true. I get a lot of them but don't tend to remember them until the event actually happens. Apparently looking at the colour blue before you sleep is supposed to help you remember your dreams. No idea how or why. Tried it a few times and it seemed to work for me but that could have been me subconsciously remembering the dreams because I thought I had to.

lol. Lemme know if it works for you. It just feels like deja vu when it happens. I always think "hang on, I've seen this before" then realise that I'd had a dream about it months, weeks, years ago etc.
