OK, I'm not sure if "secret task" describes the situation well. All Melissa asked was that I keep the conversation private (after proving I was real and the tell me a "lonely story" part) and during the conversation she asked if I could help her with something, which is not exactly a secret either. I think a mountain is being made of a mole-hill here to some extent.

The whole point of making these "secure" contacts was to keep certain information more private.
about:
Quote:
Transmission Analysis: Inbound voices are being monitored by person or persons with an incomplete understanding of the truth. Leveraging some connection points to keep certain transmissions hidden from the monitors.
Mission Parameters: I must seek out, behold, and reveal the truth.
Outbound:
My broadcast system is functional and expanding. I will transmit to my crew daily. No longer waiting for instructions. I must use my own judgment and act on my own initiative.
Successful transmission threshold:
Variable.
Certain confidential transmissions can only be trusted to personally verified recipients. Initiating personal rendezvous protocols in tandem with broadcast transmissions one day per week.

So it should really come as no surprise to no-one that "confidential transmissions" occurred. I'm actually surprised that more confirmed crewmembers didn't have more similar experiences to mine to tell the truth.

Ah well, it will all become clear soon I'm sure.

1) You have the complete content of my conversation with Melissa, except for my phone number. Everything else, in the recording and transcript, is a faithful and complete representation of the event as it happened. If I was asked to do anything in secret at this point, I sure didn't hear it that way ... maybe that was one of the many things obscured by passing traffic. There is the implication that future communications will involve sensitive and important information, but exactly to whom that information should be kept secret from is not clear. I have no expectation that it is meant to be kept secret from other players and the community at large, and unless I receive a very clear signal that this is what is intended, I will share any and all information through this forum.

2) As far as I can tell, the only instructions I received were to expect calls on the phone number I provided once a week. No more, no less.

Respectfully,

I think that the revelation of this latest aspect of the ARG has made some of the people who didn't get live calls go Rampant.

I can tell you I was pretty shocked and shaken up. But I got over it, and I learned how to be a little more humble. Smile

no and no, but I'm keeping my cell phone charged and ready. I'll see what I can do about recording (if permitted).

I liked what XN said. Folks, some of us already feel left out enough. Be damn well sure that M wants you to keep something a secret from us before you do it. I don't think it would be too intense for you to ask M for clarification if she says to keep it a secret.

damn good point. Anything I'm not sworn to strict secrecy on (and I cannot imagine anything that I would be told not to tell anyone else about) will be relayed here.

Why? Cause it's a game, and as I've said before, the ultimate goal of the game, (both the player's goal and the PM's goal) is that we solve it. These games are more easily solved when we share information, not when we hold it back.

is this a game we can somehow win? SP might like those kind of games, but this game seems to be more about unlocking, revealing, participating. like when i'm playing a Silent Hill game -- there's monsters and things i'm supposed to fight or whatever, but i'm more interested in the puzzles and seeing the story unfold.

but i will definitely share all information i am allowed to. if i'm asked to hold something back, i'm sure it would only be to make the game more fun!

BUT - and this is very very important!! --

Melissa seemed very interested in my ARCHIVING and BROADCASTING her communications to the crew. keeping secrets doesn't seem to be my job. being a new CHANNEL of communication, however, does.

Ok so this means if they dont end up puting your audio files on the site then you'll be sure to record them or give us all the information in the phone call.

I don't have the equipment to record a call, and my cell phone does not support built-in call recording.

So I, for one, will not be recording any of my calls.

I DO have recording capabilities and will be doing so (if I remember). But in any case, you will get a transcript of anything that happens.

1) Is there any part of your conversation with Melissa that you are purposefully not revealing, or omitting from your accounts, because you were asked to keep secret?

2) Does this part of the conversation involve action of any kind from you?

1) No. And that answer will remain true once I actually get around to posting my account, hopefully by this weekend. To the best of my recollection, Melissa did not ask me to keep anything confidential.

2) Not applicable. The only thing Melissa asked me to do was provide her with a less "public" means for her to communicate with me -- like everyone else -- which I did.

I'll tell you, I got a little nervous when I saw people talking about a "secret task," wondering if maybe I had missed something. But if it's all speculation based on the new messages on about.html, my impression is that the "confidential transmissions" haven't happened yet, and will probably start next Tuesday.

(I also think that there will be more crew slots opening up next Tuesday -- assuming, that is, that we get more axon coordinates from SP tomorrow, and that the whole axon thing isn't over now.)

Well, since everyone knows all about Lt. Weephun's "loyalties" now, I'll try to explain some and share what I haven't before. I was afraid of doing this before out of fear of backlash like this: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=76055#76055

This is the email that I sent to the rest of the crew this morning. It explains what I remember from the call (which wasn't completely 100% acurate I can see now), my actions (above and beyond giving away the dungeon/404 information), and my goals in doing all of this. I apologize to all who feel the loss of the Sleeping Princess (and especially her puzzles which I personally also loved) Once we remove the Pious Flea though, I'm fairly confident we'll be able to get her back from being "lock[ed] up". At least I hope so.

Keep in mind that this email was written THIS MORNING BEFORE THE UPDATE and has had no modifications made to it whatsoever. (I'm a pretty good predictor then wouldn't you say?)

Subject: Re: Confirmed Crew: Waiting for one more

Melissa asked me
specifically about the "spy" or "rogue process" who I identified as
the Sleeping Princess and she seemed to agree. She then asked how she
could find this rogue process and I explained to her the she was
hiding in the dungeon which was accessible by accessing a page on the
ilovebees server that didn't exist. I also mentioned that there was a
3rd entity called the Flea (yes, I know, I forgot the "Pious" part, so
sue me I was insanely nervous ) also in the server but she refused to
acknowledge this entity or talk about it. She asked me specifically to
help her catch the "spy".
TuxKamen has also informed me that Melissa specifically asked him to
write to the rogue process to try to draw it/her out so that she could
ambush it/her. He has yet to really do anything about this as he's
waiting until after the SP update today to determine what he's going
to write. (that is if the SP is even around to write today .... dum
dum dummm ... keep reading Smile

Soo, this is what I have done (actually BEFORE I heard from TuxKamen).
On Wednesday I went through the remaining axons for the_glassworks and
crates_and_a_dolly and identified those axons which I was almost
certain would NOT be answered. I aslo tried to dissuade other
beekepers from getting those "hard to reach" axons (see here, axons I
sent to the SP are highlighed in red on the spreadsheet:
http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=75074&highlight=eb#75074
) I then sent the following emails to the SP ( the first email is
actually one I sent to her before I was contacted by Melissa and we
did get every one of those axons as promised):

Holy Cow ... OK, either the people I'm working with are completely
unreliable .. or SOMEBODY is trying to get you caught by the Queen.
Hmm.

Anyway, I hope that you are OK. Hopefully we'll hear from you soon
and you can let us know what happened.

Oh, hey speaking of the Queen .. We may have found some way to
communicate more directly with her now through these phone calls
[axons/roads] that she is making. It is rather difficult still though
with the Pious Flea constantly whispering in her ear. Is there any
way that you could distract, slow down, or even remove the Pious Flea?
It would be greatly appreciated and I'm sure you wouldn't miss him
too very much. With the Pious Flea gone we may even be able to get
the Queen convinced to leave you alone, let you out, or possibly even
help you out.

Thanks so much. Good luck!
Weephun

Soooo, for the good or for the bad (I'm not even sure which one yet),
I am actively following the directions given to me by Melissa by
trying to help her catch the "spy". And having an absolute blast doing
it! Smile Though I must admit sometimes it is hard to decide how far to
go on one side.

If the SP does figure out that I'm trying to trick her, I may have to
resort to more direct measures. Probably along the lines of "if you
don't remove the Pious Flea for us, then we'll do everything in our
power to make sure you're caught by the Queen" (aka blackmail).

Either way, I perceive my end goal now to be removing the Pious Flea's
influence over Melissa (and figuring out exactly who the PF and SP are
if possible). If the SP can help (either by blackmail or willingly)
then great.

When I next talk to Melissa I think I'm going to try to prove to her
that the "spy" and the PF are in cahoots (maybe using
http://www.ilovebees.com/gretel.html as some proof) and that way
she'll actually have the motivation to find and remove the PF. Then
maybe Melissa will be rational enough to help us figure out who the PF
was and who the SP is (hoping at that point that the PF will be a
"was" and the SP will still be an "is" Wink

Soooo, you can see also why I'm quite reluctant to share this with the
entire ARG community. Beyond the backlash from the obvious SP fans,
I'm not sure I'm ready to be branded so fully on one side of the fence
when my end goal is really just getting more information (just more
pro-actively than most). I really think that a lot of people won't
see my end goal through the "trees" and there are some out there that
seem almost fanatical enough that I'd worry who'd make a trip to Boise
to come "see" me.

I think I shall now go into hiding for a while Embarassed . We'll see what happens. I'll definitely be here waiting for the call next Tues and we'll go from there.
