That is true, but it was on my cell phone. which is in my name. My address is not, so, while completely possible, not exactly easy.

And I'm not going to post the number until I am positive that it is in-game. We got a Jessie out of it and I will call later to see if anything comes of it. I am totally going to ask to speak to Vinnie Everyman. Smile

I will update later.

Toetags. Terrifyingly awesome. What if they send out personalize toe tags. That would make me shit brix, in the best possible way.

So theoretically... if someone has your name and your home address, how hard would it be to find a phone number? I mean I know you said you may have sent your number but, just out of curiosity... Because they could potentially have a LOT of phone numbers, assuming that a lot of people sent in their addresses for the wristbands.

Most public libraries should have a recent Polk City Directory for the area they serve. You can use that to easily associate a landline number with an address. Cell phone numbers would probably be a bit more difficult to come by, though.

EDIT: Even if it does turn out to be definitively in-game, it might still be a good idea not to release the number into the wild. If it's a landline they're using, it could be the household's primary number. That would be kind of a sloppy mistake, but still.

Have you tried plugging the number into a reverse directory?

Yep, several, and every single one, it shows it as unlisted. I have googled the full name that was on the answer machine and I came up nothing.

I think it was probably an accident - Jessie's a common name and all. If it was the same number as the other person, then yeah, that's weird. But as it stands I don't think it's anything game-related.

Although I think we would all love to believe it's game-related, or else Harley would likely have to call the police....

Remember that not many people have Harley's number, that she was called during an ARG, got messages/sounds akin to what is going on in the ARG, was called repeatedly by the same landline number and calling back got a mailbox of a person with the same name as one of the characters in the ARG, and even though only few have her number nobody with said name rings a bell. And somebody else of us received a similar call earlier last week, by the time SHIT HIT THE FAN.

Edited. I actually figured as much, but staying neutral on MBs, I still call a user "he" (user = masculin??) as long as I don't have verification it's a she.

So you being a girl would def. make this policecallilicious. But I say - just as with CYSTW - that the likeness of all the details is WAY too close. Things that match: 99%. Things that don't match: 1%.

I still think it's probably OOG and coincidence. I don't think there's enough there for us to call in INgame

I dunno whether or not to call it ingame yet. It's freaky as hell, sure, and the fact that it happened repeatedly from a landline is really weird, but...I dunno, man, it's 50/50.

I'm sure it's OOG now.

Let me phrase it this way: it would be 50/50 for me if there were grounds of doubt.

Let me put down the points, if they are likely to be OOG:

Harley got a phone call by somebody she doesn't know - unlikely, she only gave her number to a few people
Somebody got a similar phone call from a similar number - unlikely, even if two persons could get such calls accidentally, the number wouldn't be similar
The sounds were with a lot of static, as if somebody was driving, and somebody was breathing hard - unlikely, since for both, the phone would have to be mobile, not a landline number
There is a voice saying "Help" in the first recording, and later on we here "fire" mentioned, as well as other things indicating something bad happened - HIGHLY unlikely, since the game deals with those themes
The number has been checked, comes from somebody called Jessie - slightly unlikely; even if other girls are called Jessie (or JESSA), the actual coincidence that all the above happens and the number is of a person with a name like that of one of the characters in the ARG.

If half of those would be likely, it would make me go 50/50 as well, or 60/40, but all of those options are unlikely to be OOG.

If she had a friend called Jessie who called her previously - it would have been likely. But we are talking this scenario here for it to be OOG:

Somebody Harley doesn't know who is called Jessie has a wireless phone at home. She puts it in her back pocket/bag, and goes somewhere. The phone accidentally dials Harleys number (!!). Harley picks up, and hears rustling, hangs up. The phone RE DIALS the number accidentally, and something can be heard that sounds like HELP.
The phone RE DIALS the number again. Our mystery person either has a conversation about fire and awful things or watches a news report, and somehow weird static, breathing and eating sounds come in.

And that in the same week that another one of us also got a similar call by either somebody accidentally calling him or somebody harassing him/her.

That would be the OOG explanation.

I called the number. It went to voicemail. While it was on the voicemail, it called me. It was a female returning the phonecall. I apologized and said I had the wrong number.

It's not in game.
