That's the point! We have no idea what the goal of the SP might be!!!!

We know Melissa's goal. She is an AI from an Earth ship. Her real goal is to PREVENT THE EXTERMINATION OF THE HUMAN RACE by the Covenant!!!! In game, how can you be against that???? Think hard before you try to:

Think about it!

This is only one possible scenario I know. However, remember the SPEC about Sophia being a "honey pot" trap for Kamal? Well, perhaps SP is a smoothe-talking "honey" out to trap unsuspecting, gullible, 'keepers! If this is the case (and who has real evidence to the contrary - show it to me) then "SP's Army" will be considered traitors to the human race in Halo history. Do you want to take that chance?

Don't take sides when you really don't know which side might be one to take! However, if you must, Melissa certainly seems like a better bet with the data we have at hand.

If it helps progress the game along, then I'll gladly become an in-game enemy of humans. [joke]After all, bad guys get the coolest stuff.[/joke]

 		All true, all true, in the end we're all getting a sweet (and very professionally done) story out of this, all for just a little bit of work on our side. And thanks RangerD, I figured the avatar pic was appropriate.

I am also now however enjoying actively trying to affect the outcome of the "game". If that means that by my actions (which have been plentiful the last 2 days) and secrecy (for which I sincerely apologize and wouldn't keep if I didn't think it necessary) that I have "picked a side" then so be it. I look forward to continuing to work with/for/against you, whatever the case may be.

This is nothing new for all of us though. Any one of us that emailed the SP to tell her when we would be distracting the Queen were actively participating and trying to alter the game in some way or fashion. Any that have emailed Dana with suggestions, encouragement, etc. have tried to alter the game in some way or fashion. This is nothing new.

I'm not so sure about that combination, y'see. And that is why my loyalty hovers somewhere in the distance, like a little humming spherical robot. Or something.

A spy... for the Princess??

Here's what I see so far. We don't have any real idea of the true motivations of Melissa, the Princess, or the Flea. We have some clues as to partial motivating factors.

The Pious Flea, for instance, seems to invoke enough religious symbolism that Covenant origins should be considered possible, if not highly likely.

The Princess? All we really know about her motivation is that she wants to spy on the Queen. I don't think we really know why yet. We don't know what she is, where she came from, and most important, who made her.

Melissa? We know that she is essentially trying to reconstruct herself, her memories, and her crew. We don't know what she plans to do once this is completed. Prior to the crash of the Apocalypso, it is a near-certainty that Melissa's ultimate motivation was the protection of mankind. We do not know how the crash affected that motivation, but we may gain some clues from her recent focus on "revenge" and "loneliness" in the live calls, that her mental state has changed for the worse.

Dana? She seems to be an innocent bystander. But she freaked out and fled to China, leaving us to clean up the mess. I don't know that serving her is our purpose either. If it would save mankind to sacrifice Dana, how many of us would be on her "side"?

EDIT: I am not the only one who thinks this, as I have just read.

At this point, our collective goal should be to gather information, and decide if it is appropriate to support any of these characters, any of whom may have motivations that do not coincide with ours.

[spec wild=110%] What if the Princess wants to delay the release of Halo 2? Boy, would you all be sorry.[/spec]

So I agree with those who say we are all still on the same "side" and think that the goal of our side is to keep information flowing to us from the various characters.

mild tangent: has anyone else had the thought of hading off to the SP that bit of code that somebody wrote up about checking the PF's SPDER version number against her archives so that the SP can slip it somewhere where M might run across it? maybe while she's distracted on the phone with somebody? that would maybe encourage M to question the PF while minimizing the attention drawn on the SP.

OMG. way too many abbreviations up in this.

As much as I am anticipating and counting the days to the release of Halo 2, I think it would be hilarious if we were responsible for the delay of that release.

As for the Pious Flea's connection and the SP, my theory is here.
I'm willing to believe that Melissa has already been compromised by the Flea, and that the SP is a forerunner AI that just wants to observe and learn about us for now. From the game, we know that Sparky thought we humans were the returners, which I can only assume that he meant the forerunners returning to activate Halo and wipe out all life int he universe. Better to have a clean start than perpetual enslavement to a sentience parasite right?

Saving Dana? She's hot, I'm all down for saving her. </chauvinism>
