It viewed him as a threat now, he realized a second before it flew at him. The knife drew back and his weight shifted to put every shred of his power into his swing.

The blade sank into the thing's black body, its flesh offering no more resistance than water. Then the knife's hilt and his hand disappeared, and in a flash of horrible understanding, he knew that he had made a mistake. He couldn't help but laugh as the thing's branches closed around him.

There was a moment of incomprehensible agony, and then there was only darkness.

Great writing.

Excuse my accent, it's horrendous. It's a mix of midlands and a yorkshire accent (lived there for 3 years).
