The style is nice, but yes, it actually is an officially authorized product by Disney (just like with the list of really expensive designer clothes and jewelry that has questionalbe ties to the movie franchise).

The big reason it's considered "related" is the colors (same scheme as the characters), and the style is remeniscant of the uniforms the characters wear (not sure if they meant the first movie or this one), and some/all items are laser cut and anything with lasers is automatically related to Tron.

Who wants some delicious tron ham? Very Happy

Every franchise that targets kiddies at all is going to have kiddie road vehicles with the logo on it. And tbh its cooler-looking than most of those scooters.

I can't really dis it without getting into toy semantics though - I've absolutely hated the Razor scooter since it was first unveiled.

If I were spending that kind of stupid money on clothes, I'd buy the custom Tron motorcycle jacket with EL strips. I mean, at the point, it would actually be cheaper, cooler, and more recognisable.

Or is that the point somehow, and I'm just missing it?

When I grew up we had the scooters that had the actual bike tires, those were cool. If they had one of those ok.

A segway, I doubt anyone here on the forum would buy one but ok.

These, yeah if I were a kid I would have asked for one. But this movie hasn't even come out yet, so all of this is bandwagon merchandise.

Let's save this thread for the absolute dumbest items AFTER the movie comes out.

Except for underoos, those rock.

I think they are experimenting with marketing stuff, rather than being just something plastered with the movie name, or an image of a character, or a replica of something in the movie, they are now going for stuff that would "fit in" or was "Inspired by" the material. That begs the question then since one purpose of all the toys and stuff is to promote the movie, if a person walking down the street wearing something like the jewelry, the designer clothes, etc. would you recognize them as wearing something related to the movie?

Also, you don't have to wait till after the movie, Disney already released a website full of all the authorized merch for the movie with the prices. (I think it's more of an industry site rather than something for consumers)

Tron "inspired" earrings? Probably not.
Light-up clothes/accessories or any kind of "target" on the back of the torso? Absolutely!

No, it's not, this is even worse (more because of the price rather than what it is).

This is a cool jacket, imo. But this has absolutely NOTHING to do with TRON! What the hell is going on with this? The price is so incredibly stupid that I can't even think of a single person on this forum that would buy this.

If I had the money, yeah I would, it's a cool jacket. But I don't see how this jacket is related to tron.

Looks like something Zack Morris would wear. It totally looks 90s

Flynn's

I can't believe with all the clothes "inspired" by the movie, we aren't getting a jacket like Flynn's from the original movie, some of these look in the same basic ballpark. I would get that over any of this stuff.

Too much stuff

Yeah, it's totally out of control. With the amount of marketing $$$ being thrown at this film, I pray it does not suck.

Adidas just released their line of stuff (not the sneakers, but all the rest of the shirts, hoodies and track jackets). Check it out at shopadidas.com if you really want to see logo wear at it's finest!

And yes, those of us who have been collecting Tron stuff for a while and like to at least aspire to getting everything released at retail, the sheer amount of stuff that keeps popping up hurts the wallet. A lot Smile

I hate to say it but that isn't particularly outrageous in the way of clothes pricing, they probably are doing a small run. Most of the dresses and skirts I buy from small run oddball fashions have similar price tags though they look better.

I'm kind of offended by the clothes though, they aren't bad clothes technically but they are definitely more of a throw back to the original Tron rather than Tron Legacy, so they should have just called it Tron inspired. The coloring is 80s and fits with the old lightcycle coloring and the cut is kind of like some of the random programs from the original. And that laser cut angers me since it is a floral/swirly and would have been completely kick ass had it been something geometric/actually related to Tron.

I am so close to making my own darn Tron Legacy inspired fashion collection to shame these idiots though.

This merchandise craze is probably the only reason Disney can even afford to make the film though. It provides a convenient safety net for them.

It's sad that this is how things are done these days, that no production can exist without kissing the arses of manufacturing companies, but, what can you do? It started with just commercials, and then it spread to product insertion and branding. It's stupid, but it's the only way T:L would even be happening right now. MAYBE before the recession, Disney could've done it with less help, but that's just speculation. Looking at how PotC managed to get through three films with practically no merchandise at all though, kinda leads me to that conclusion.

But hey, you don't have to take my word on any of this. Yogurt the Wise knows all of this to be true.

you think Disney is struggling financially?

I see it more as compensating for the poor merchandising the first time around Wink

Indeed, they are designer clothes and not something that is supposed to have mass purchaseing. I guess we can argue that they are going for a "Classier" version/market when it comes to merch. With all the really expensive stuff, I've noticed a trend, it's all very subtle. If you wear it (other than the belts and a few necklaces) it doesn't turn you into a walking bilboard for the movie but rather only reminds the wearer of the movie.
