I'm back in action too after a break due to some real life trauma. It's all good and groovy now. Let's pierce that darkness!

Note the 7's. It's not a straight binary translation.
Slide puzzle in OoO, minimum amount of moves to make the same as the original. It's a gui for a virus on KatH computer.

I tried loading up some slide puzzle programs which have a facility to put your picture on the (ain't computers grand!) but don't have much joy with them.
Oh, Vlad has a movie up on FB which I noted the shot list for earlier. Not sure if this is a puzzle, or a general overview of our situation and a reminder that time is ticking.

In the last few Vlad posts, certain letters have been capitalised:

Quote:
never run AFtEr the sileNT wOrdS

and

Quote:
a mist and shadow of sadness SteAls over our merriest jesTs

Taking the capitals and rearranging gives:

FEAST ON SAT

There are two feasts on Saturday:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernward_of_Hildesheim

and

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmund_the_Martyr

The latter was captured and tortured by the Great Heathen Army...he died on November 20th.

Could be the planned execution date for Stuart?

On a side note, Nov 20th is also Teacher's Day. In VietNam. Laughing

C

EDIT:

The post regarding mists and shadow is Longfellow's 'The Meeting':

Quote:
AFTER so long an absence
At last we meet agin:
Does the meeting give us pleasure,
Or does it give us pain?
The tree of life has been shaken,
And but few of us linger now,
Like the prophets two or three berries
In the top of the uppermost bough.
We cordially greet each other
In the old, familiar tone;
And we think, though we do not say it,
How old and gray he is grown!
We speak of a Merry Christmas
And many a Happy New Year;
But each in his heart is thinking
Of those that are not here.
We speak of friends and their fortunes,
And of what they did and said,
Till the dead alone seem living,
And the living alone seem dead.
And at last we hardly distinguish
Between the ghosts and the guests;
And a mist and shadow of sadness
Steals over our merriest jests.

The dead are living; the living are dead....sounds like Vlad and the others in their 'sleeping' state.

On another note, the full moon is on 21st, the feast is the day before...Stuart's 'last supper' perhaps?

No info yet on Vlad's 'silent words' message - nothing via Google anyway.

The Order thanks you.

I have spoken to KatH who, for reasons that cannot be mentioned, is unable to access computers at the moment. She entered 14 and informed me the machine reset to original settings, but with all of the information that was stored [some unnecessary data] all wiped.

Still, we thank you Tate and hope that the machine will be running by a fortnight's time. As it needs to be tested we will run with the dark of the moon rather than the full light.

To all members - learn from Tate's example - perseverance presents results.

# Seema Chowdhury writes well, so the wondering Hermit thinks ... well enough for e-cards at least... "if you're looking for something exact?"

"raising my cup" is from Li Bai's poem
Quote:
Drinking Alone by Moonlight

A cup of wine, under the flowering trees;
I drink alone, for no friend is near.
Raising my cup I beckon the bright moon,
For he, with my shadow, will make three men.
The moon, alas, is no drinker of wine;
Listless, my shadow creeps about at my side.
Yet with the moon as friend and the shadow as slave
I must make merry before the Spring is spent.
To the songs I sing the moon flickers her beams;
In the dance I weave my shadow tangles and breaks.
While we were sober, three shared the fun;
Now we are drunk, each goes his way.
May we long share our odd, inanimate feast,
And meet at last on the Cloudy River of the sky.

Funny little things is from the Hobbit: Sung by Orcs.
Quote:
CHAPTER 6 ~ Out of the Frying-Pan into the Fire

Fifteen birds in five firtrees,
their feathers were fanned in a fiery breeze!
But, funny little birds, they had no wings!
O what shall we do with a funny little things?
Roast'em alive, or stew them in pot;
Fry them, boil them and eat them hot?

Burn, burn tree and fern!
Shrivel and scorch! A fizzling torch
To light the night for our delight,
Ya hey!
Bake and toast'em, fry and roast'em!
till beards blaze, and eyes glaze;
till hair smells and skin crack,
fat melts, and bones black
in cinders lie
beneath the sky!
So dwarves shall die,
and light the night for our delight,
Ya hey!
Ya-harry-hey!
Ya hoy!

Have no idea on that. Just read Defoe's A Chapter on Dreams though. The writer as merely a mouthpiece for his subconscious. Don't know how this links to the game though.

How odd.

The OoO forum has two posts in the 'Potential Problems' section, both posted by AdrI on Jan 1 1970. One of them is entitled 'Vladimir' (written in Cyrillic) and the other is VS. Clicking on either brings up a 'This topic does not exist message' (at least it does for me).

Haven't been able to find anything on the Russian quotation, except a lot of calligraphy websites and a 'blog from someone called 'loves_me_not' which looks like it's NIG.

The map on the OoO forum shows the HQ of the English Chess Federation in Chain Lane, Battle.

http://www.englishchess.org.uk/

I e-mailed them asking if they knew the whereabouts of Vladimir, but they replied saying they've never heard of him. I think they're bluffing. Wink

Sorry for multiple posts...catching up.

O tweeted:

I've lost count of the number of times I've taught King Lear. Edmund (the shit) is duping his father and turning him against the pure, humane but slightly weak Edgar.

The soliloquy is mind-blowing....all about free-will over 'destiny'. The quotation that O uses is immediately followed by the old goat's ramblings about 'ill omens' - he happens to be right, though:

Quote:
These late eclipses in the sun and moon portend
no good to us: though the wisdom of nature can
reason it thus and thus, yet nature finds itself
scourged by the sequent effects: love cools,
friendship falls off, brothers divide: in
cities, mutinies; in countries, discord; in
palaces, treason; and the bond cracked 'twixt son
and father. This villain of mine comes under the
prediction; there's son against father: the king
falls from bias of nature; there's father against
child. We have seen the best of our time:
machinations, hollowness, treachery, and all
ruinous disorders, follow us disquietly to our
graves.

Having a spy for a sister is kind of useful. Smile

So we now have a full name for AdrI.

No luck on the actresses though...Lillian Gish & sister perhaps? Hard to say.

I think it could be 'The Dolly Sisters':

Quote:
The Dolly Sisters, twins Rosika (Rose) and Jansci (Jenny) Deutsch, were born October 25, 1892 in Hungary, and traveled to the United States in 1905. They perfected a dance act, under the name of 'The Dolly Sisters' they began earning money in beer halls in 1907. Barred for being under age by the New York City stage, they toured the Orpheum circuit until 1909 when they debuted on the Keith vaudeville circuit till 1911 when they signed with the Ziegfeld Follies for two seasons.

Now, what date does this point to?

Looks like the Dolly sisters were know for a "tandem" act. Perhaps we're looking for two things in motion together?
Rosi also died of a heart attack 1/1/1970. Perhaps the first of January is relevant?

Hmm, the 1st Jan 1970 is notable for the start of Unix Time. And it was my sisters third birthday. Smile

Also, with regards to her sister:

Quote:
In 1933, Jenny was involved in a serious car crash near Bordeaux with her former lover Max Constant. It took six weeks and fifteen painful surgeries and the sale of most her jewelry to restore her to some semblance of her former beauty but it left her 'a broken shell' as she would say to friends. She died on May 1, 1941, having committed suicide by hanging herself in the shower of her apartment in the Shelton Hotel.

A 'broken shell' is not a broken heart, but maybe the date of her death is a possibility- 1st May 1941 according to the above from Wikipedia - although most other sources say 1st June 1941.

Key events of June 1st 1941 - none (according to the 'infallible' Wikipedia.

So I guess the date we're meant to find is Jan 1st 1970 and the event (if we're meant to find one) is the beginning of Unix Time.
