Seriously. Seriously? I waited months for this crap, and this is what we see?

I respect Marble Hornets. The original series freaked me the hell out. But this is just pathetic. The video doesn't even need to exist. Nothing was established by the video aspect other than the setting. He could have just done twitter post updates, and we would have gotten the same thing.

Maybe I'm just jaded, but I expected more from the kings of this medium. I don't expect a ton of actual acting from the Marble Hornets team, but when your video is nothing, literally nothing but Jay walking around looking dazed, especially after the pictures he put up, it's just ridiculous. This wasn't a season opener. This was a filler episode meant to play "Where's Waldo" with our Slender-man starved minds.

A few months ago, this would have cut it for me. But this isn't a few months ago anymore. Everymanhybrid and TribeTwelve are doing far more compelling things with the medium than this, and on top of them we have a fistful of great blogs like Stoppinglights and it's various offshoots, and Observe and Terminate, plus even some odd blog/vlog mixes like Searching for Angels. I hope this isn't a herald of whats to come for Marble Hornets, because if this is how the rest of the series is going to play, count me out.

I would argue that establishing setting is of primary importance at the beginning of a new story. Season II really is the beginning of a new story arc, and this entry is thematically important and entirely appropriate to the story that they are trying to tell.

You didn't like it. You're allowed to not like it. But it does have relevance, and it does give us very interesting revelations. The premise it grants us is arguably more interesting than "lol my friend gave me all these tapez". *cough* and labelling Tribe Twelve as "compelling" is just funny.

It is the implications that this entry raises that are the most important part of the entry. It teases us with suggestions of what might have happened in the interim, if you take the time to consider them -- his new camera, for example, the hoodie that seems the same as in the recent Masked twitpic, the pulsing television, the fact that he apparently had at least the faculties to drive a car, take himself to a hotel and book a room... it leads us on, and is more about showing us what we don't know than telling us any answers. I personally think that's a brilliant ploy.

Calm down. We've been off this ARG for seven months. It'll pick up soon enough. At the very least, J has chestcam footage to go over for us

I wasn't aware that ARG's were suppose to straight up give you every fact an answer right on the spot. I must be missing out.
Judging from the amount of anger you appear to show if they really did decided to transfer this whole introduction into 142 character long twitter posts you would have been mad the video didn't exist.

Well, I will admit that it's not mind-blowingly revealing about the series, it does show...

What we can expect from Season 2
The likelihood of Jay being involved with Masky (due to the pills heard and the similar hoodie)
A way for us to get our bearings and become re-acquainted with the way it[the series] works.

Not much, but I'm glad the Operator wasn't seen in the first 2 seconds of this. It would have been too much to work with seeing as how there are still several unanswered questions from Season 1.

Sorry your precious time was wasted. No one made you watch it. o:

See, this was just completely boring. You can't keep suspense from being boring, by being boring. That's a lot like committing suicide so you don't run the risk of getting mugged. These guys are the one's that started it all. Is it alright for a first go? Yeah. But I expect a bit more from someone who had 7 months worth of time and a wealth of experience at his finger tips.

The Tribe Twelve bit was meant as a subtle insult Wink

Besides the point, we aren't in the beginning of a new story. We are in the same story, part 2. It's like if if the second Harry Potter book had been "Harry Potter and the Warlock's Boulder." See, it's different because, instead of a Sorcerer, it's a warlock, and a Boulder is like a stone, except bigger! If the first was good, this has to be good, since it's like the first except better, right?

In short?

I don't know why you're so OMG OFFENDED over this. They're just starting out. The beginning is going to be slow going. It will get faster, and perhaps your disappointment in these young men, who have absolutely no obligation to entertain you to your exact specifications, will cease.

In short? Calm yo' tits.

I thought it was awesome. Ever seen the movie the house of the devil? Sure that movie was boring, but it also had a lot of suspense! And if you didn't watch the entire movie, the ending (which was great) wouldn't have been nearly as good. I think this entry was the same. Sure it was kinda boring, but it was also informative and told you exactly whats going on as well as now you know what certain key areas look like. We know that the hotel is in the same area as that river and we know what his hotel looks like and we know that something happened the night before that caused the tv to turn on and off. All stories need expositions, and I thought this one was great.

Except for it's more like a movie than a book. It's called Season Two for a reason. It's a new start.

They aren't just starting out. They are picking up at "Entry 27." This is the follow up to Entry 26. This is bearing in mind everything that just happened. They have all that to go off of, they have an incredible fan base willing to support them in whatever they do, and they go with "short-term amnesia", a trope so over-done that it's officially a parody mainstay.

These "young men" are the Spielberg's of their world. They may not have come up with Slender Man, but they sure are the ones who make it sell-able, the ones who started the fire. Pardon me for expecting more skill from them than I do fro every other start up. You don't expect a best-selling author to start a series the same way a newbie would, and you don't expect story tellers that literally founded a sub-culture to make the same videos at the high-point of their careers that they made at the beginning. I know I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Marble Hornets. I wouldn't have a clue who or what the Slender-man was. I don't want to see this fail anymore than you do. But it will fail, spectacularly, if this is the direction they are taking it. Everymanhybrid has them beat for story and acting, and TribeTwelve is catching up for them in cheap scares. Various other blogs/vlogs are vying for our attention, and in my mind if the only thing they've got to offer is a big bowl of nostalgia and sly "I'm good for it," then I will leave this series, even if it is with a heavy hearts. I don't know if the creators read this site, but if you guys do, then hear me out: You are better than this. You are better than 7 month amnesia and random text. You can do so much more, and I know it. Maybe you've got something big waiting in the wings that I can't anticipate. I sure hope you do, because despite my cynicism I don't want to see this fail. I want this to be the best thing ever and show all the other blogs/vlogs who's boss. But don't rest on your laurels. The rest of them don't have laurels to rest on, and they will be doing everything they can to topple you guys. Why? Because your the big fish. The kings. You can challenge them every step of the way and blow all our brains to bits, or you can go the Star Wars route. Here's hoping you pick the former. Cheers.

That's really not how seasons work for a television series, but ok. Even given that, tell me what this establishes to match the beginning of the previous season. The Amnesia thing has been done so much it's not scary or intriguing anymore.

Were I a bigger skeptic, I would say that they wrote this storyline eons ago, to expand on their original "amnesia" bits in the videos. Then a bunch of the new blogs and vlogs beat them to the punch with huge stretches of amnesia and re-written memories based off that mechanic, and they had too much invested in the story-line at that point to change it without major pushbacks for season 2.

Mind you, that is my skeptical side. I don't think that's what happened yet, but you must admit that it is a striking thought.

Gentleman, stop putting these guys up on a fucking pedestal. I can understand where your cynicism is coming from, but screaming bloody murder about it isn't going to FIX'D things, y'know?

Okay, so short term amnesia is a trope. Remember then that MH has been playing heavily with this all throughout the first season. eta: which you have, so that's good.

If you are worried that they're going to fumble this, pose some specific worries about what you feel could go terribly wrong. Pose some examples of where you have seen it pulled off well.

Keep in mind that these guys aren't film masters and some of them are still, in fact, students; if you feel that they've screwed the pooch somewhere along the way, please be constructive about it instead of pissing yourself like an angry infant.

As delicious as this drama is, Gentleman, sir, if you could please cry yourself a river, build a bridge and get over it, that'd be spectacular. Don't make some big sweeping judgement about Season II based on this one entry.

Can we get back to talking about the video rather than chewing on some guy who is apparently dead-set on believing this entry OMGSUCKZ?

We were talking about Jay's behavior, I do believe!

That's really not how seasons work for a television series, but ok.

WELL ACTUALLY, television episodes are denoted as

[season]x[episode]

A Series premiere will be 1x1, the first season finale will usually be 1x24, and the second season premiere will be 2x25.
