We need something new.

First off, let me make this clear: I love the SM myths. He's such an ambiguous character that it's exciting to add to his story and come up with new things for him to do.

But I think the blogs/videos/twitters involving Slender Man have evolved from "fascinating" to "somewhat repetitive" to "Christ, ANOTHER one?"

Some of the original ARGs (Marble Hornets, EMH, TribeTwelve) are still entertaining to watch, but all of the new editions more or less follow this storyline:

"Hi, I'm Random Ordinary Person. I have recently lost someone close to me in my family. In addition, a Strange Man in a Business Suit has been following me around. I shall blog about my encounters.

I am feeling sick. I am coughing a lot. I am suddenly seeing distorted video/audio clips and circles with Xs through them everywhere. What does all of this mean? I am moving out of town."

Several blogs later...

"All glory to the Slender Man. Shocked "

It was interesting to watch these people lose their lives to the Slender Man at first, but it's become so widespread that it's just plain tedious now, IMO. We need something NEW! Tell a story from the perspective of Slender Man, maybe? Or perhaps gives some details as to what he actually does (besides standing around and messing up video cameras, of course)?

Or better, how about all those other creepy internet-created monsters, like what EMH is doing with The Rake, or maybe even whole new fictional direction entirely, like Candle Cove.

There are lots of possibilities out there. We don't need to lock-focus on one entity just because he's cool.

Although I'd argue that, at the same time, there's a TON of untapped potential in the Slenderman myth. We aren't seeing it yet only because it's too soon. Innovation needs space to breath sometimes. Also, a lot of it may have to do with a timidness in making broad or daring declarations about who and what Slenderman is, due to the Big Two (Big Three?) stories still being unfinished. They'll have their own declarations to make, and chances are they'll be at odds with the smaller ones (and probably each other).
