If they weren't trying to establish something with their explanation for their parents not being around, I would have gone for something less crazy. Like they could have just said "Our parents are away on business trips a lot"
My friend lives with his dad who's away on business often enough that his dad doesn't even bother asking about the weird shit he does. While he's never barricaded a door off with chains and crap, he has done some rather bizarre shit.

And I don't remember Jeff ever mentioning their parents.

Vince actually mentions talking to their parents and family in the end of the Jokes Over video. But I don't know if that's to keep up the "pretend like nothing is wrong" act.

I bet you they did this all to make us go crazy over what it could mean.

BuenoBoy- It sounds a bit like Vince corrects himself "his parents, his family". He then says they're going to talk to his family. It's still weird though.
I for one still want to see the footage Vince said he and Evan were taking of themselves "just to get it all out" at the very end.

Alex also mentioned in his... first? video that his parents have him grounded.

Maybe it's unrealiable narration on Evan's part then.
Does he have a reason to want us to think Alex's parents are dead?

Personally I'm buying Evan's explanation about the parents. Saying he's "grounded" definitely falls under the category of Alex talking as if they are still alive. The voices out of the room can be explained as any number of people, especially around a Holiday. A lot of people refer to the nuclear family ("his parents, his family") as "family"- so that was fine wording too. Most of all, these boys are waaaay too clever and on top of it to have just thrown that out there halfasssedly. Myabe it seems a little weird but in my experience, that just means that they're a million steps ahead of us on this one too.

Well, in his explaination, Evan comments that Jeff and Alex's parents have been gone 'a while'. How long that is is strictly up for interpretation. We know Jeff's 19, and you can only be someone's legal guardian if you're 18, UNLESS you're an emancipated minor. So I'm guessing they may be living with either foster parents, or perhaps another relative.

But if they said this to cover up the chains not being noticed, then wouldn't another relative being there ruin the purpose of the dead parents?

Guys...I think we're really all missing a very important thing here, even if the dead parents is a simple continuity fix IG.

If they have dead parents, but talk like they're alive? That is a SERIOUS sign of massive mental disturbance. Especially if Alex believes they're still 'alive' enough to ground him, or to be afraid of showing them things/talking to them. What does he consider that to be?

Why are there cameras in the house? Maybe so 'Mom' and 'Dad' can watch their boys, even though they aren't there?

I think we really do need to examine this. This isn't simple continuity fixing. We've all sort of looked at the boys from an 'Oh, well Evan is pretty crazy...Jeff is sad...Vince is neutral, etc' light. I'm believing more and more that all of the boys are DEEPLY disturbed in one way or another.
