Interview Puzzles

From an article in slashdot today, I found out about the latest type of job interview, used specifically by Microsoft. The are throwing puzzles and brainteasers out at potential employees to see how their brain works at solving problems. After finding some of their standard questions online I've come to the conclusion that with the brainpower here and over at CD, we could take over Microsoft (although I don't know if we would even want to). Either way there's some good classic riddles in there to waste some time on.

Those "simple" puzzles are further proof that I am for entertainment purposes only, because i am confused by each and every one of them.

Plus, there's no ROT involved.

Let's get you started with the first one. Why is a manhole cover round?

A: that is the only shape that cannot possibly fall into the hole. Any other shape can be turned or flipped in some way to fall through the opening.

The rest are left as an exercise for the reader. Smile

Rolling Eyes

Why do I suspect this one is not quite as rhetorical as the some of the others?

How many gas stations are there in the United States?

Obviously not enough since every time I'm on "E" and looking for one, I can't seem to find one.

Because the manhole is, silly.

I doubt that my smart@$$ comments would go so well with the person doing the interview.

One for every manhole, of course.
