[Update] riddle

We now have the code word for SonicReverberation. Read the topic if you want to know what it is. Visible on the page is:
Quote:
The equation you might think is dumb, but actually it is quite fun.

However hard you may be searching, you're overlooking the something lurking,

Your numbers are off, but that's not the problem, it's that you're making a bunch of numbers into the word "goblin."

And don't let me be misunderstood, but look over some old files like you should.

For puzzle solvers you miss the obvious, because teamwork rules in this game of problems.

So compare your notes, compare your files, because your and your neighbor are off by miles.

-Stephfen Roberto

It's my belief that "Stephfen Roberto" is just another name for Steven Roberts, thus we need to get back to the starry eyed surprise file.

Also in the source is the following.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
//Programmer's Journal May 11th, 2004.
//Shadown gave me my task yesterday. I don't even want to think about it.
//
//
//
//
//
//I have to build a program to capture Section 32... My friends... CyberStrike... CyberSlash... all the rest ...
//I have to build a program to contain them! What the hell! I'm not doing this! I'll escape...
//
//
//
//
//But if I escape... then Darkblade will surely torture and kill Rachael...
//The safety of the world... my girlfriend... the safety of the world... my girlfriend.
//I know what you're thinking diary, you're thinking "What the hell you thinking about this for?
//run away, let the girl die, and keep the world safe!"
//
//If only it were that easy.
//
//
//Ok, plan. I got a plan.
//
//I'll make their blasted program, but CyberStrike can hack out of anything. He'll get out in no time and free me and save the day
//like he always does. So I shouldn't worry about it. Plus, they have to capture Section 32 first, which
//is easier said than done.
//
//Maybe this isn't such a hard choice after all. You go, Strike. You go.

//-Stephen Roberts

Blast, we've missed something.

This line stands out..

Perhaps we/I was wrong about 'Misunderstood' being meta? Ack, I really don't know. What other old files have we got that we haven't gotten something from yet?

Right, in spite of the fact that it's my own numbers that gave us the currently accepted answer of 585 for the Starry Eyed Suprise equation, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that possibly the answer should be 532. As in, S32--get it?

But that file isn't very old yet, and even if it is what he's talking about he wants us to compare it to something. So, what all do we have that could possibly apply to any unsolved riddles we've got?

I'd like to throw out this old tidbit from the old acceptance email that was never really heavily studied:

2398d879ds78adf98u3w08reg8ij5w460[w45689[

Also--the equation contains the phrase (time of white). We've been assuming this has something to do with the white noise in the file--might it instead have something to do with Section White? I remember the old coded message about Section White ended with the phrase "Breaker: 1125". I tried using that in the equation and got 1695--but that doesn't seem to help any either.

I think it's a fair chance that we're looking for something unrelated....

I think it's a fair chance that we need to set aside the sums for awhile, it seems like we need to find something only vaguely related to the solution of the equation.

For instance, what's the deal with the "Blues" bit a line down? Shouldn't we figure out what that means?

Blues has been a running thing

I was wondering about that also, it seems there are a few songs that are labled as "Blues" that clearly are other genres. The Ricky Williams one for instance.

equation

What if the second part of the equation ( click BPM ) refers to actually clicking something, like a link someplace or to look for a webpage.

I've tried a few at google, but haven't found anything...

Ah ha!

A quick once-over reveals that

Starry-Eyed Surprise- Paul Oakenfold

The Call- Backstreet Boys
Rock DJ- Robbie Williams

are all of the blues genre.

The fact that starry-eyed surprise had Blues as its genre may well mean that the "Blues" part is a meta thing stuck in there by the file format. But I really don't think so- I think that these three files are related.

Time to get crackin'!

EDIT: I took a closer look- that Blues might well be the genre and only the genre, since the formula is the song description.

A few other notes about the content tags of these songs:

Starry Eyed Surprise-

Album: "Bunkka"
Genre: "Blues"
Description: "(time of white) + Hz + click BPM = A calculated mess on a calculator"

The Call-

Album: "y3o0" (help)
Genre: "Blues"
Description: "http://rejudgereligion.cjb.net"

Rock DJ-

Album: "Promo CD Single"
Genre: "blues"
Description: "http://www.freewebs.com/32ndnotes"

Curiouser and curiouser. What's "bunkka"? Does it mean something in the cyptogram?

'Bunkka' is in fact the album the song was on, as can be evidenced here. So nothing in that, I'm afraid Wink

"Blues" is, I think, the default genre for many MP3 encoders. It may be nothing.
