I have a lot of things to say about this thread, this war, and a few other things, so bear with me, please.

I want to start this reply off by saying one very important thing: I AM NOT ON ANY SIDE. I have opinions about this whole fiasco only because I think it's been blown way out of proportion.

The second most important thing I have to say is this: I am a fan of BOTH EverymanHYBRID and Jonclubs. In my eyes, neither is better than the other, both are fantastic. I loved Jonclubs while it lasted, and I still follow EMH (although I don't quite understand all that's going on).

There are a few things I think you Unfiction guys and gals are missing in regard to this war. You seem to think that Jon is the only one at fault, and your precious EverymanHYBRID crew are not at all to blame.

That. Is. Not. The. Case.

I'm going to continue by giving the complete timeline of this "war" (with dates) so that you all can follow what I'm saying here.

September 30: The creator of Jonclubs started a thread on Slender Nation giving an honest review of EverymanHYBRID. It was not completely hostile, it was his review. Even the creator of another Slender Man series is entitled to an opinion. It's called free speech, and it's given to everyone under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. Or do I have to link that for you too?

Then nothing happened for almost two months. Then, this happened:

November 19: The creator of Jonclubs posted his, now-famous, "testosterone-drenched douchebags" reply to a thread on Slender Nation. While it used that colorful language we have up above, there is one important thing you have to remember here:

IT WAS A REVIEW. The one point that "Jon" made that I love is that creators of a media product should be able to handle a review. When you make something as successful as EverymanHYBRID, you're going to have people say things like that, and you're going to have to suck it up, or your series will fail. This does not, however, make what Jon said right, of course. A personal attack like that was uncalled for, and while he is entitled to his opinion, EverymanHYBRID did not ask for a personal attack.

Again, nothing happened for a while. Then:

November 22: EverymanHYBRID posted their video on Youtube entitled "A Day with Green Feathers." You all are aware why this is an important event in my little timeline here. In the video, Evan made an off-color comment using the word queer. Ready?

People were angry. And they had a right to be! Evan called Jeff a queer, and while Jeff himself was not offended, many other people were. That's when:

Also November 22: "Jon" posted his up-in-arms reply on Slender Nation, and sent it in a message from Jonclubs113 to EverymanHYBRID. The three responses he got were slightly apologetic, with more than a healthy dose of defensiveness and rebuttal. Since Jon's most recent Youtube video is no longer available, I'll quote the responses:

"Thanks, bro. I already apologized for Evan's off-handedness. I never speak in such a way and go out of my way to protect some of my best friends (who are gay). I'm sorry if the comment offended anyone, as I would never wish to inflict such harm.

On the other hand however, Jon, using phrases like testosterone-gorged douchebags and the like serve no better purpose in our society, especially when they're not entirely applicable. You wouldn't say the N word, right? Of course not.

"And for future reference, one of our cast members is bisexual and an avid member of the Princeton area rights group for gay / lesbian causes.

Again, I would apologize for anyone stereotyping, etc., but you're guilty of the same.

"Jon we are very open minded to all types of people of all races and creeds and sexual orientation. and our usage of the word "queer" was not used as a sexual slur in any sense. It was used as the dictionary defines it which is:

1. Deviating from the expected or normal; strange: a queer situation.
2. Odd or unconventional, as in behavior; eccentric. See Synonyms at strange.
3. Of a questionable nature or character; suspicious.


the fact that you took it as a sexual slur coupled with your blatant and blunt attacks against the EMH team's personalities shows only YOUR true mind set. The only person who has shown any hateful ways is indeed yourself. I still respect your sticking up for the gay/lesbian/bi community because we all know that they've been through enough, but an out right attack of our character because of who we are is no better than what you seem to think your preventing. Again before playing the hate card you should step back and make sure your not living in a glass house. Also check the dictionary before sending hate mail

While the EverymanHYBRID crew may have been right on some points, there are a couple things that need saying aboutthese messages:

1. Two responses from Jeff was unwarranted. One would've been fine, but two snide responses was completely uncalled for.
2. Vince's response was, at best, laughable. You all and I know that Evan used the word queer as a noun, not an adjective.
3. Remember my earlier point when I said Jon called the EMH team "testosterone-drenched douchebags"? It was not posted anywhere else but Slender Nation. Just think about what that means.

By this time, the queer comment was done with. It was no longer about the comment, because sufficient apology had been given publicly.

Next:

November 24: Jon did nothing in response to this, and instead talked to friends on Slender Nation about the responses. Then:

November 25: EMH's live Ustream video, in which Jeff leaned in toward the camera and talked about Jon calling them "testosterone-drenched douchebags" very angrily. Also, uncalled for. They could have gotten over it right then and there, but istead, they attacked Jon again.

Up to this point, it was EMH who was mostly in the wrong. Now, it's Jon's turn.

November 26th: Jon's first response video was posted. Since it's no longer up I can't reference it, but he basically said that EMH was wrong. This is where the trolls come in. All the "ZOHMYGOD EMH IS SO AWESOME" people came and, not understanding the conflict, sided with EverymanHYBRID. While Jon may have been wrong for posting the video and he could have just let it go there, it was the trolls who became involved and completely sided with EverymanHYBRID because "our precious EMH could never be wrong!" Yes, I'm talking to you, Unfiction.

November 27th: Jon's second video was posted, explaining his position
and why the war was going on. Again, he could have dropped it here. He posted anyway, and the trolls trolled him to death, without understanding the conflict.

The EMH team proceeded to tweet separately about how they were wrong, and the war came to a close. To further finish the fight, Jon, as I'm typing this, announced on Youtube that he was also wrong, and the hatchet was buried.

Or so I thought. Then I found this Unfiction thread...

You guys, what you don't seem to get is that both sides gave up! It's OVER! Why do you continue to post on here about how "Jon's such a fag" and "why is he such a jerk?" You guys are saying Jon is the troll? Well, there are twenty-some useless pages of hate for Jon here, and it's all written by you guys, the Unforumers. The war is over.

In summation, EverymanHYBRID is not infallible. Jon was a huge troll and was wrong, but so were the EMH crew, and so are you guys. It's time to stop this.

If you're going to be writing an essay on the subject, you should include all the details. Like the part where Jon/Jeremy/whoever was insulting the way EMH was made, and only using the slur as an excuse to bash EMH. Or the part where TribeTwelve's creator sided against Jon/Jeremy/whoever.

Now, whatever, it's all over and done with. Going from each timeline (however, Jon fails to mention it when convenient to his argument)

EMH apologized publicly, via twitter, personal email, youtube comments, and youtube PM, BEFORE Jon contacted them.

I think the reason the guys quoted the SN because Jon was harping about "breaking the fourth wall" to insult the guys and to insist that they did not have a valid excuse to counter his review. Going on how the crew reacted, I think they were lol'ing because fine, producers can't argue reviewers... but what is the case when the reviewer positively reviews HIS OWN work, too. (Jonclubs is new, but shiny.)

I don't know. The whole thing of Jon being reasonable goes out the window when he STATES that he doesn't care about the queer comment, but is instead carrying on. Obviously, it's over now. Whatever.

daniel12, you missed out that Jon openly admitted on Slender Nation that he'd stopped caring about the "queer" thing and just wanted to fan the flamewar. I don't think you can credibly analyse the situation without taking that into account.
