First line is Spanish, according to google translate's auto detect. "You have not lived until you've seen someone play a house with a cricket bat." Ummm... Cool Story, Bro?
Second line is an acrostic: "A Hollow as the wind" Did he mean "As?"

Perhaps the first Spanish line is a play-on-words reffy to the playwright Tom Stoppard who often acknowledges T.S. Eliot as his major creative influence, such as "the twin syringes of my diet, my arterial system". LINK

In Stoppard's play within a play, "The Real Thing", there's a famous monologue about fine writing known as the "cricket bat speech". Also, there's a ficticious play, called "House of Cards" (re Rubbish or TowerCard jpeg) in that Stoppard play. LINK.

So, that's how I'm singing for MY supper cos I can't crack that cipher (prev page) and this looks mega interesting. Smile

Thanks for the links Amandel. Very interesting esp part about the cricket bat and writing. That reminded me of LD's lament that "language is dying". Perhaps this is why he doesn't like modern forms of social networking/communication. More like using a plank than a cricket bat.

About the photo. Maybe it's trying to say something in pictorial form.

Pancito said it resembles the tower lightning card from a tarrot deck. Now you say house of cards.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There is also an open pocket knife in the photo.
Cut the deck?

Not sure that is correct tho since I can't relate it to anything else or what it might mean in overall context of what's happened so far.

The repeated characters seem to lend towards simple substitution, but i get nothing. Is it in french?

The last line is Spanish. Not very good Spanish. Roughly, 'Anything that I leave belongs to your partner.' The Spanish drops the 'que/that'. Google has it 'I leave anything belongs to your partner.'

First part is obviously a poem...

I do not know the game of cricket, so I'm not sure the proper terms. And the translation isn't very good, so who knows.

Yeah, not very good Spanish I'm afraid...

D is his second name, stands for Darrington if I remember correctly.

Not much, but in response to amessage's last email to me, I sent:

Quote:
You will follow...

Looks like you've been doing plenty of following these days.

And he responded:

Quote:
I follow those whom I see fit to follow. It's all lost in the static to you.

And now I guess the mentions of following make sense, with twitter and all.

I'm pretty sure Nigel and LD are two separate people. LD isn't very internet-savvy and hates "Shadow" (Assuming "Shadow" and the guy who hacked LD are the same guy, of course.) Nigel seems to claim to be a gamer nerd, however, and thinks Shadow's an intriguing mystery.

Also, according to his profile, Nigel's last name is "Hemmingway." So there's that, too.

confirmation:

I asked Nigel outright if his middle name is Darrington. Here is his tweet reply:

Quote:

nope it is not. Someone else has dealt with this shadow person? Do they know anything about him?

as I haven't had any contact with L D up to this point, perhaps another uf'er wants to answer this question?

a few notes

characters:

so far we have Darrington, Nigel, and Logan (and the person Logan was with)

these three may be one and the same (or not):

the person using Darrington's account
the person from amessageSPATgmx.com
The Shadow who messaged Nigel

for now I'm calling the original emailer L D, until we confirm he is The Shadow

UNTIL WE CONFIRM WHO IS WHO, COULD EVERYONE PLEASE SPECIFY THE EMAIL ADDRESS THE MYSTERY MESSAGES ARE FROM?

also, Darrington/Nigel/L D/Shadow/etc...might all very well be the same person

Darrington said he had to go away and the Nigel is away on business
LordIllian mentioned Cool Story, Bro, and then Nigel tweets 2ce CSB

I had a few more other reasons but can't remember now

ETA: Okay pored over the whole thread from beginning to end, and streamlined a lot of the information here in the text...just if people want to quickly refer to the messages/puzzles/etc without pouring through the whole thread

I've been emailing a bit with D and his "friend." Here are some highlights:

Bad guy:
Quote:
I am all that's left from the fire,
This vengeful will, is all that I desire.
And when I have her blood upon my hands,
I shall have no more demands.

I got the cricket Spanish one too and based on what D told me later, I think bad guy is "watching" him (assuming they're not the same person)
D:
Quote:
Nothing special, I'm afraid. Just more rubbish. I think this person enjoys babbling and the like. You know I spent part of the night walking around with a cricket bat hoping to catch them?

And I thought this was interesting:
Quote:
The odd thing? I never mentioned the things that are going on to anyone I know. I'm concerned that our "friend" might be bothering a friend of mine.

Don't know if that means he's worried about one of us being bothered, or if there's another person he's talking about we have yet to meet. Maybe this person he's going to visit...

He also sent me a picture of a note that was left. I can't tell what word the arrow is pointing though...too fuzzy for my eyes.

Completely META post following. Just rambling and wondering aloud.

Am I the only one who thinks the PM is making this a tad too complicated to be just starting? Or at least very unfortunately having released his/her game at the same time as another. If this isn't a mistaken duel release, confusing your players as to what IS this game or if the clues we're finding belong to another is a good way to possibly alienate newer players.

That said, maybe that's part of the reason old hat players have been chosen. We're more likely to stick it out, and make our own tough determinations.

Lastly: how many of you played Holomove? Just curious.
