If you hold the paper to your eyes at a certain angle with a light in front of you, you might be able to see the word under the blacked out area. i learned that trick in 8th grade!

Aww, man, missed page 1000.

And I had a random thought that maybe the nutcracker ornament was one of the boys' beloved possession that they buried, but I don't think the timeline works out quite right. They would have needed to bury it right away, then have it dug up and mailed out almost immediately after. It's a little bit too rushed for that theory to work.

It might just be an old ornament. What will be interesting to see is if any of the crew recognizes it.
