I think we'll be able to count on at least one more person soon.
No word yet from the phone holder.

The most likely bookstore drops form something of a dogleg through the downtown, with 2 good clusters around 2 well known names - Powell's and Borders. The former seems more likely than the latter, but there's more small independents near the Borders. A healthy trot could get one between the two areas on foot in 10 min. or so, maybe less.

Shall we work out a rally point to organize before the stakeout(s)?

Agreed, I'm thinking Powells (off Burnside, not the one in Beaverton) is our most likely target. Especially considering that it is a short walk/drive to Ground Kontrol and a myriad of other geek-friendly businesses. I can be available to be on site at Powells early that morning. I've pretty much got a free schedule that day and will have drive wherever needed.

Well I can get there as soon as the MAX gets me there, since I'm way out in Beaverton.
And as for Borders, the one down town was closing last time I was there, like last week, so I'm pretty sure that's out of the equation.
While keeping Ground Kontrol in mind it is going under a remodel right now, so it's on NW 5th and Couch right now.

As for a rally point, either the Square or Powell's seem to be the best options as they're both key landmarks for most Portlanders.

And another thought is if you have a Encom Badge or Challenging Stage V2 pins wear them so we know who to look for.

I don't think you'll be able to miss me. FL shirt, Encom badge, etc.

So the phone holder has been contacted and replied, not sure if he'll be there yet.

I'm thinking if we can be someplace at shortly after 7AM to work out the final details, and if we have some kind of mobile cloud access for the best communication, we can position and be ready for a drop location announcement at 8AM. If the drop is later, and especially if its not yet published, we can use some of that early time to scope the areas more thoroughly. If the staging is like Zero Hour, we can work out some good spots to kill time between announcements.

If for some reason Portland is not in the cities listed, and there's a drop later than 11AM in Seattle, I'm good with a run there. Problem for me is if I get a rental car or not, as mine isn't running too well for such a distance, especially in a steady run.

If anyone knows a good breakfast spot in the rough area of Powell's or the regular Ground Kontrol location, that could be a good rally point. Wifi access would be bonus. (BTW I don't think Ground Kontrol will be involved this time.) If anyone knows that Powell's store fairly well, that'll help with our plan of attack.

Now that I know this forum exists, I'd love to help you all out again. I'm free until 11am, but I might be able to be late for work, because I work in a vintage toy store, and this would be work related.

Fuller's is a really good breakfast spot on 9th & davis, about 4 blocks from Powell's (10th & burnside). Also, I know Powell's pretty well. I live downtown, so I'm oozing with info.

Good to see you back sporkbot! I've added you to the list.

I know that one of the Powell's I've been to was in an old building and rather complex to navigate. I recall there being multiple entrances and exits. If that's the place, it could take a group just to cover all points.

Is the parking good at Fuller's, and do they have wifi?

Great to have you with us Spork.
(It's Jameson)

I'll try my best to get there as soon as I can. Some mornings do not agree with me. If Portland isn't a city, I'll head back to my place to help on the net front. Unfortunately I know Old Town far better than Burnside and Hawthrone so I'm not much of a help for picking a meeting place.

I am also trying to get out of work for Wednesday morning and willl try to be at Powell's by 7 as well. (Comming down from the Couve)

Based on the pictures from the forums though, I would bet that one of the power/telephone poles in front of the main entrance on Burnside would probably be the most likely choice. But then again, if the rest of the speculation about the city lists are right, Portland might not even make the cut. But I am still keeping my fingers crossed. (would just suck to take time off of work in order to find out there is nothing)

I wish we knew who had the phone. I've been quietly reading the site since February and finally decided to join it last month. Been playing the game for quite awhile now too.

I'll be able to drop my kids and spouse to their respective destinations on Wednesday and join in the fun from 8:30am till 2:30pm or run out after 6:30pm. I have a car if driving is needed. I live in Beaverton

The phone holder is actually none other than SpaceBass himself. Just don't know if he'll be available that day yet or not.

Let's hope he can be available for it, at the very least to drop off the phone if he can.

So where would we all like to meet? Let's set the destination in stone. I'm thinking front door of Powell's facing Burnside has many possibilities. I can at least park the car in the lot there or over at the Brewery shops underground. As I said I will not be able to do anything till 8:30 due to dropping family members to school and work. If someone wants to call me and let me know what is going on I can give you a number via messaging here. Just send a note before Wednesday morning. Smile I'm in Beaverton if anyone needs a ride in, MAX takes forever.

I'll the short one with a black and white jacket, Encom badge with pins, fox ear hat and (hopefully) a "My other ride is a Lightcycle" shirt. Smile

Count me in. I don't have a smartphone but I'll be bringing a laptop with wireless capabilities. I'm all for meeting up just NOT outside in the cold or rain. The coffee shop in Powells, The Public Library, a Starbucks perhaps?

I think I'll be around too, just not sure what time I'll be available. My laptop was sent in for service, but I may have it back in time. Will also have an ipad, but we know how useless they are with flash. I'll check back here for the exact time for the meet up.
