Once more into the fray...

Well, i'll certainly be going for the one in Dothan again this round.... hell. I'll even go for the one in Mobile. I don't think the hurricane's coming this way... this time anyhow.

Wooo... looking to be a 9-10 hour round trip. It's not easy being obsessed. ^_~
Sometimes i wish i had fellow beekeepers in AL. *shrug* C'est la vie

Oh! and wish me luck on the new axon in Mobile... still trying to find out the specifics. Mapquest seems confusing and doesn't mesh with Yahoo and other sources...
~j

Edit
PS: Bit more of the specifics.
Hoping to hit the 6:55 PDT (or 8:55 AM CDT) axon in Mobile first,
then the 14:03 PDT (or 4:03 PM CDT) axon in Dothan.
8 hrs time difference, and 4 hrs driving time between the two of them. I'll bring a book and all the patience i can muster.

If mapquest is acting wonky, use Rand McNally. It's never let me down.

(9 hrs? You're a god Smackus.)

I'll get Midtown, and my personal call tomorrow, but everything missed will have to wait till thursday (Perim Mall) or friday if we still have them left.

If only axon hunter were a viable profession. P)

yay for payphone-dir.org!

I agree vor; it sounds much more dynamic and nifty than, say, contractor/consultant.

In any case, i'll have recordings of the axons should they succeed, or even if they don't. I'm quite sure of the one in Dothan, and i've even found out more of the location in Mobile.
It seems that the coordinates are pointing to a greyhound bus station: 2518 US 90/Government Boulevard. ^_^ There's a bank of 4 payphones from what i've gathered, and i'll be testing/staking out each. Wish me luck!

Edit: Oh! and if anyone has any suggestions of how to translate my analog (minicassette tape) recordings to a digital medium, i'm all ears.

OK, fine. I'll get the Perimeter Mall axons too. There's a lot of them.

But this is the first and only time I'm missing class for the game so they better move back to after 3:45ish (He said to nobody in particular)

Would you like some company? I'm at Georgia Tech, but I can probably wiggle an hour out of work to dash up to there.

I wanted to be sure, though, that we're talking about the same coordinates:

33.922767 N 84.342483 W at 15:03, 15:04, 15:05, 15:06, and 15:07

right?

I'm sure it's a bad idea, but I'm skipping Thermodynamics at Tech to answer payphones from an AI from the future.... I'm sure I'll pay dearly for this, but if I could be a member of the crew, it would be worth it, right?

Have you ever tried explaining this to anyone? It's so hard!

I take it, then, that you'll be heading to Perimeter, too?

There's a lot of phones at PM, but so far only two phone banks have been used. While I have no idea how to help you make the decision, i only NEED one other to cover perviously used phones.

That said, If someone else is there I'll happily give you a chance to join the crew instead. So don;t see my being there as a reason not to come.

Do we want to have some way of contacting one another on-site?

ARGH! 60% again at MoGA

Reporting in from latest set of axons.

Shot 3/5 again this week. /sigh

Ok... I left the house with 44 minutes until the first call. Cutting it close in midday traffic, I know....

Drive was uneventful. I parked at the closest possible location to the Food Court to make a quick entry. I locked up, grabbed my phone (my clock) and started inside. Then I looked at the phone. It said, quite plainly, 12:31.

Crap.

I run inside, completely ignoring the small asian clerk handing out free samples of what appeared to be quite tasty sesame chicken.... Because in the short distance I could hear a familiar "brrrring brrrring" of phone #2.

Double Crap!

So I sidestep around a mall patron emerging from the restrooms (nearly tripping myself in the process) and nab up the phone as best I could manage. I'm sure she was giving me a sideways look since I was carrying my cell phone in plain view...

Call starts. Slightly short of breath, I gave the proper identification code "Stormy Weather". Axon goes hot.

While waiting for the call to finish, I look down at my clock again. 12:33. Time for call #2. "Continue.". The other two phones in the bank were not ringing.

Triple Crap!

I ran to the elevator, jumped inside with an older woman who wore the expression of a chihuahua with a full bladder, and politely said "Thanks for holding the elevator!". Went to the upstairs bank of phones... Picked them up, but got nothing. Look at the clock. 12:34. Just enough time left...

I run to the 'Down' escalator, my sandals making a distinctive "clop clop" on the tiled floor, get to the lower right bank, and phone #3 is ringing. I picked it up, gave the identification code, and listened to file #2 of the day. "Continue.".

Look at the clock: 12:37.

Quadro-Crap!

No phone ringing in lower right bank -- so I play my other hunch. A quick, clopless shuffle landed me at the lower right bank of phones. No ringing. Pick up on phone #1: Dial Tone. Pick on phone #2: strange 'ilovebees' loop, but the microphone in the phone would not work. I tried hitting numbers to see if that would break the cycle, but it did not. Line turns into the "fast-busy" signal and I hang up. Look at the clock: 12:38.

Clop-shuffle back to the lower right bank of phones, and right on time, phone #1 begins its electronic warbling as if cued by some unseen conductor. Pick up, give identification code, and listen to file #2 for the second time. Axon #3 hot.

After all this, I let out one big sigh of relief and said "Continue." I didn't bother taking notes etc. this week because in weeks previous, the correct number of axons were completed and the files unlocked by the time I got home and posted my results. I called my brother, who is as big a fan of this as me, and told him the results. The drive home was uneventful as well.

No live calls for me Crying or Very sad

After the banks of phones switching, and getting a positive hit on the lower right bank of phones, I surmise that the calls bounce back and forth between the two banks. Furthermore... I believe that the first axon for each file is designated as a "live" call. If one is not completed, then the call waits until the start of the next file/set of axons to name another crew member until the designated slots are filled for the page.

I noticed this morning that the first call of the first axon set was a 'live' call, and it seems that other first set people got positions as well... If there is anyone who can disprove that and convince me that it's random event, please do.

Thanks for listening to my rant Smile Now it's time to sleep so I can work tonight at 10 Crying or Very sad

Looks like I won't be able to finagle my way out of work this early.

Free the princess for me! I was going to respond to her whole "I don't like your X" with "All the better to Y you with, my dear" to see if that was the code sequence Melissa encrypted her with.

I must say that things are getting fun with the live call jackpot. I skipped this week and let gkhrone answer and now he's working on posting his transcript and audio. Are any other GA locations comming up live?
