Special Screening of "Movie Preview"
Any chance this could be Super 8?

I received an email from movietickets with an invitation to a "Special screening of 'Movie Preview.'" It's at the Paramount Lot on Wednesday and this is the description.

"This new theatrical presentation is undocumented footage pieced together from material gathered when a group of teenagers stumble upon an area in the Nevada desert known for hosting an encounter with Aliens. This is an edge of your seat adventure that has been put together for you specifically."

Now I haven't been following the ARG for quite a while, so this could sound nothing like the movie. Just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Edit: some more information. I RSVP'd and on the confirmation page it asked for my name and such as well as "Which movies have you seen on this list?" The list was:
Cloverfield
Paranormal Activity
The Fourth Kind
Skyline
District 9
Splice
Predators
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Devil
Babylon AD
Surrogates
The Last Exorcism

Yes, that is spot on for what Super 8 is, however they have not finished filming it so im assuming its either going to be either very brief or a new trailer for the movie. Honestly, they are still filming the Film in West Virginia so i would not expect much. Also if you do go, make sure you take video and post it for us to see Very Happy

I don't think it is Super 8. I believe that Super 8 is primarily going to be set in Lillian, OH and not in Area 51. Also, I remember some news about some other movie about a group going to Area 51 with their own camera. It would also be another 'found footage'. And if you take a look on the list of movies, some of them are in that genre.

Was just looking on Wikipedia for information about Cloverfield Viral Marketing to see if it went this slow. I found information on a movie by the creator of Paranormal Activity called "Area 51"

The Wikipedia article read exactly this "A group of teenagers stumble upon an area in the Nevada desert known for hosting an alien encounter"

I think this is the movie that you have a screening for. I want another trailer for Super 8 so bad though....

AREA 51 (2010)

"A group of teenagers stumble upon an area in the Nevada desert known for hosting an alien encounter."

But, I don't see were Paramount is listed as a distributor, other than the 2011 DVD release:

Paramount Pictures has a Lot of flicks featuring aliens on its agenda. J.J. Abrams' Super 8 and Star Trek 2, the long talked about Cloverfield sequel, Steven Sommers' When Worlds Collide, Oren Peli's Area 51. The list can go on and on.

Pre-screening poll

Sounds like the studio wants to see what the reaction is to the current edition. I'm sure they'll want to keep mental notes what you thought was scariest, funniest, etc. It's their way of getting the kinks out of the editing. Also, if the movie is tetter tottering between screening or straight to video they'll have a viewing to get a feel of the audience. You'd be surprised how much psychology goes into the marketing.

Soooo disappointed that this isn't Super 8. I was convinced, until I decided to just play it safe and google the description on the invite, leading me to this thread. I never saw Paranormal Activity (not a scary movie fan), so I dunno if I'll bother with this movie. Sad

I suppose, they haven't enough footage for Super 8 preview right now.
Besides of demolition of Lilian Wink

Well, who knows? Or perhaps the whole movie is already completely filmed in some Paramounts hidden warehouses.

Shooting ended?

Hey I didn't really know where to put this... so... I thought maybe here would be good.

I am really confused why people keep saying that shooting hasn't wrapped yet for Super 8... I know someone who lives in Weirton (Spelling?) and she said that the filming of the movie has been done for quite a while. They changed a lot of stuff in the town for the movie (as previously mentioned they changed the name of the schools and such... renaming the town) however according to my friend when she went back in late October everything had already been changed back to the original look.

Are they filming elsewhere in WV as well? I am just confused as to what people mean then. Can someone clear this up for me?

Shooting in the Weirton area did wrap around mid October. I heard they were going to take care of some of the FX for the train crash in Arizona where they had a special set built and would superimpose it with some footage they shot in a rural area near Weirton. They were supposed to do most the inside shooting on the Lillian replica sets they built in LA. I did hear that the production people planned to return to Weirton in January to film an outdoor scene in the snow.

I don't know of anywhere else in WV that they're filming. Then again - with all the JJ secrecy - they could be shooting in the woods behind my house right now.
