Ahoy mates. Here's the lowdown on the Portland drop.

A group of us, including myself, Euchre, ouroboros and Trigger all met *very* early this morning in downtown Portland to prepare for the site launch. Once that happened and it was clear that we would be likely spending our day waiting for an afternoon delivery, we all converged on Backspace Cafe. There, we met up with sporkbot, Kid Atomic, nerves_end and a few others whose board names I can't remember.

For the next several hours, we regaled each other with tales of ARG's past and ingested copious amounts of caffeine. Oh, and we perfected the ritualistic pressing of the F5 key.

At 1pm, we decided that it was best to split up our group (that totaled at least 9 by this point), lest we keep all of our eggs in the proverbial basket. Euchre led a pilgrimage to Pioneer Courthouse Square and took with him a few others. I stayed behind with Kid Atomic, sporkbot and a great guy whose name I can't remember. Between our two groups, we had the majority of downtown Portland canvassed. Plus, we had another contact who was going to be on hand to stake out Portland State University area, so we were confident that we'd be able to get to the drop location in record time.

Then, 2pm came and we were proven wrong.

The drop location was NOT in downtown Portland. Instead, it was located across the river on the SE side. That's almost 15 minutes in traffic, and that's including the "bending" of more than a few traffic laws.

However, once I saw the drop address, I realized that it was a mere block and a half away from my office. That's right kids. Had I actually GONE INTO WORK, I would have been able to walk across the street and claim the prize. Oh fate, you fickle mistress.

As it happened, my boss WAS in the office and DID walk across the street. He nabbed the sticker and we were able to call in and claim the package by the time we arrived (in a record 13 minutes). Several more joined us and we all celebrated our victory.

So, yeah... that's the short version. I was actually the driver as sporkbot was calling in the drop code. So, you can say that our success was very much a team effort. Thanks to spork, Euchre and everyone else who joined us in this day of conquest. I don't have a complete list of board names, but I'm sure they will post in this thread.

Oh, and the voice on the other end of the phone asked for everyone's FlynnLives.com ID's. Not certain what that means, but hopefully we'll all be rewarded somehow for our efforts. The package itself will be divided up among the team, so everyone will get a bit of swag.

Had a BLAST today!

So far, people have claimed the book, the pin, and the shirt. I'd like to keep the shipping slip (since it has my name and phone number on it) but the rest of you can fight over the remains.

Great Job everyone!

Had a great time today. You all are a great group of people and it was definitely worth missing sleep to meet everyone and get this in the bag. Jack and I had a great time and were glad to get all of us over to the drop site.

I'm not sure who all claimed what, but if the original Tron instruction pages, in particular the one with the game graphics on one side, is still up for grabs I'd lay claim to that Smile

I don't know if you all saw the info for the free screening on Monday, but here it is for Portland:

Regal Division Street 13
16603 SE Division St.
Portland, OR 97236
7pm

Monday, December 13th

Anyone interested in going since its a free screening? or to the midnight showing? (not sure of the location for that)

Again, great job everyone and thanks for letting me join in!

-Superman Razz

Oh, btw, have you all done the additional stuff on flynn lives and gotten the new badge? the "End of Line" badge?

If I can get the day off work, I'll be there! But, that's doubtful...

Trigger claimed a manual page.

Now accounted for are the packing slip, the book, the pin, the shirt, and 2 manual pages (sorry, venor, I just skimmed over that. My bad).

I don't really need any of that bundle of swag, I had more than enough fun as my reward. (Besides, I don't need to fight someone else for the only thing I'd even venture to ask for - the pin.)

I was glad to see that FL (42E) was taking the usernames of all the people at our drop. I suspect the rest of us will be seeing something coming our way, at very least a mention on the FL site.

I want to thank enaxor for calling in tips, her hints are what got the WHOLE team on location for the package pickups and final puzzle solve. She also gave us the clue about the book cypher, which got us through in record time - she was the perfect online oracle.

The folks I remember that were at some point with our group were (in no particular order) Flying Monkey, Kid Atomic, sporkbot, ouroboros, nerves_end, Trigger, VenarThompson (welcome!), Jack, and Mike (no known uF username). Thanks to Flying Monkey, Trigger, and Mike for the laptop support; sporkbot, ouroboros, nerves_end and VenarThompson for the cellular communication support; Kid Atomic, Flying Monkey, and Jack for transportation. Special thanks to Flying Monkey and Jack for their comic relief; Mike for bringing the Bit and wowing us all.

I will never forget being piled 3 and 4 deep in the back of a Honda Civic.

Where are we going to post all of our pictures? Thankfully, I think we've all got tons to put together.

Oh, and I hate gluten free bread.

You have no idea.

The waiting waxed a little tedious at times, but the comings and goings of players and good humor of the team got us through that. The sheer panic after thinking we had everything secured was nuts - and a buttload of fun. Sporkbot is a running MACHINE! Do not get in front of Jack when there's Tron swag to be had down the road. He will curse your soul forever. Flying Monkey is as savvy as a pirate comes.

I could go on, and probably will later. Very Happy
