[PHONE] Personal Calls to Crew 9/28 so, i received my 6:46 PDT call from Melissa. it sounded rather clear but behaved like a recording. and it was a recording.
she asked me her favorite song. i told her "stormy weather." she was impressed that i remembered. then she slipped immediately into the .wav for "it_never_snows" which is now hot.
when given the option to repeat or continue, i said continue, but nothing special happened. same as with a normal payphone call. the crappy hardware made it hard for her to continue and she fell into her "i love bees" cries.
here i said, "Yasmine" several times very sternly and clearly to no effect.
now it's possible other crew members may get a different type of call, so Stay Alert.
or thinking over how clear the beginning was, maybe if i had taken more initiative at the beginning, instead of trying get a feel for how this call was going to go, maybe the beginning of the call was live (?). unlikely, but if it's a recording, your not really taking any chances by speaking off script, are you?
[meta] i always assumed if they were adding more crew members today, our calls would not be live. how many live calls can you ask your actress to make in one day? [/meta]
now, i have the phone number, the number she called me from, on my cell phone. what do i do with that?

Give it to someone who isn't crew, call it from a payphone, or a separate
phone of yours.

i called the number from both my cell phone (the number i gave) and my landline (which no one could possibly know, except maybe ONI) from my cell i got the error message "the number or code you dialed is incorrect" from my landline i got the error message "it is not necessary to dial a 0 when calling this number". well good, b/c i called twice and never hit a single 0 in the string.
anyway, it's a 777 number, whatever that means. but it doesn't lead anywhere. apparently not an In Game contact number.

BWAHAHAHA. *NICE*, Bungie.
They're spoofing their Caller ID. 777 isn't a real area code.

Just what I would expect from Bungie.

...which, now that I think about it, means you should probably give us the number. It might mean something.

The line must be set up to not except incoming calls. The 777 means
that they obviously requested that number. If it doesn't work there
is no reason really to keep it a secret and who knows, it could mean
something.
On the other hand, I would be really pissed if was going to get a "live"
call and it couldn't go through because 1000 people were calling all at
once.

That's 777-MELISSA.
Think there's a 777-YASMINE?

If they are using VoIP phones, I've heard it's relatively simple to spoof the caller ID. They could have just as easily made the call appear to come from the White House.

Chances are it's not the real number anyway, I'm sure they used 777-MELISSA because it's funny. I've seen that you can spoof caller ID's:
http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/09/04/1821202&tid=215&tid=158&tid=1
Still funny
edit: ok, I need to type faster to avoid trouting
