The only thing that I can think of that wouldn't work for the report would be that he was in collage, most likely in a dorm so maybe no one realized that he went missing? But then again, teachers would notice that...and so would his parents so nevermind haha Smile

That's assuming he was under control during those seven months, though. He could have been completely in his own mind during the time, willingly doing whatever he was doing.

He's obviously not using a fake alias right now, unless the name that he told Jessica is a fake alias. Also (and I'm really just being nitpicky here) if we go by his birthing being 1985 and the original filming of Marble Hornets was three years ago in 2006, he could very well be out of university or college at this point.

Either way, I still think it's something he should consider doing.

But I have to tell you, writer-to-writer, we're not loving the fact that we have to wait 2-3 weeks between each new entry, now, I understand that you have other commitments, but a regular twitter update or something would help keep players happy without ruining the immersion.
Heck, a tweet a day would take 5 minutes to do, tops, more likely 1 minute on average. Nobody in the world is so busy that they can't manage that.

I know MH is more of a non-interactive story than a true ARG, that's cool, but the sheer extent to which the IG information sources are distanced from the audience is maddening. Compared with EMH - or, better comparison, TribeTwelve, which is also more a story than an ARG, and yet the protagonist of that still actually uses twitter to have conversations with the audience rather than just making announcements.

That's one of my problems with MH. Jay doesn't seem to really care about the audience. He's more focused on doing his own thing and being nice enough to let everyone else know about it.

A tweet every few days is very manageable. I'm all for suspense and dramatic buildup, but you know you're overdoing it when your entire fanbase shits itself over a single tweet.

What could Jay be doing, anyway? From what we've seen, all he does is wander around a hotel acting confused.

I know this is a lot of speculation, but thinking about this whole issue for the past few days, I'm starting to feel convinced that this is the best style for Jay/MH to go about the Twitter thing.

To start off, I want to point out that I definitely wish there was more frequency in the updates. The fact that Twitter is so easy to update (only 140 characters every few days) definitely makes waiting so long very hard, especially when so many questions go unanswered.

That said, I feel like this is how Troy wants to tell this story, and as much as I might hate it at times, I have to honor it. Just because we all know Twitter as something that people use to update others on every little detail of their lives doesn't mean that's how Jay wants to use it (IG) and updating with that frequency would probably deaden the affect some of those tweets have had (although I missed out on the game through season 1, I don't think I was the only one shitting my pants when I first followed the account and was greeted with those October updates).

Also, thinking about it, I don't think it's too in-character for Jay to be buddy-buddy with his viewers the way Noah in TribeTwelve or the guys from EMH are. He's got some major paranoia thanks to Masky/TTA, for good reason (if I found video of a masked creep watching me in my room at night, I'd probably go insane). He obviously trusts and respects his viewers to a certain degree (he addresses us time-to-time, after all) but he's almost one of us in a sense. He's not sure what's going on any more than we are, and as he figures things out, he shows us.

Also, this:

Obviously there are some 'real world' issues halting the progress of them uploading entries.

I do agree that it'd be a lot less frustrating if we got something tangible every week or so instead of every 2-3 weeks. I'm all for them being more frequent, but I also have a feeling that things are going to pick up as the season goes forward. From a writing standpoint, I can't really knock them until I've seen more, though - ARG is a whole different beast than film, and looking at the space between videos and tweets from Season 1 via time stamps, I have a feeling we're eventually gonna get what we're looking for. Keep in mind, we're only two entries in, and last season totaled out at 27 (plus 11 TTA videos).

tl;dr - The lack of tweeting / distance from audience seems in-character for our paranoid little Jay. Maybe the frequency of updates will increase once the season picks up speed (we're only 2 entries in). That said, it would be nice to see it happen sooner than later.

(Edit: Not sure why I used spoiler tags, so I took them out)

Wow three days with no internet seriously makes for a lot of unread posts to read.

I'm sorry, but I had to skip a few WoT's D: Not enough patience.

So, I'm guessing the next entry will have a lot of safecracking in it. Or, at least I hope so. I'm going to be so mad if it's empty!

I forgot that the filming took place 3 years ago, woops.
I agree, he should try doing that though.

New tweet

I've searched everywhere in the hotel room. The safe is the only lead I have right now. Need to figure out this code.

Maybe we're actually supposed to help him with the code. Some interaction with the audience would be a nice change of pace.

Yeah, seems like they're heading more towards and ARG, unless he plans on solving the code himself. So far though, I dont think we have many 4 digit numbers for the code. If I had to guess: 2539, which is Alex on a cell phone. I cant think of any other important numbers to J at the moment.

He must really have given the room a thorough search, if he spent the past eight days searching.

Any four digit binary stuff in any of the TTA videos? I always assumed that Jay's 7-month long disappearance was TTA's doing, and thusly the safe would be set up by him. That being said (and I know this is taking the fun out of everything) but, why doesn't he just call the front desk and ask them? I'm sure if he told them he couldn't remember the code they'd have some way of resetting it.

Yeah, you'd think that 20 minutes would do it. It's not like he's searching for fucking Eldorado.

That's it.

I'm making a [PUZZLE] thread for the safe code, like an earlier post suggested. That new tweet is obviously pointing us to the "okay help me with this" path, making it solid that it isn't a red-herring.

This thread just keeps on veering toward theories and character relations, which is great, but when we have something substantial to work on, we need to be focused on that.

Give me a second to compile all the CodeRelevant posts (as there are a good many) and then it'll be up.

I tossed him a PM just in case, though it was not as thorough as some of your posts have been! Mostly an In Game-style "Here are some theories, keep yer chin up, hope things are okay!" sort of thing. I think that you guys should PM him your favorite guesses at the code as well... it seems like a pretty clear hint to leave some suggestions, to me!

eta: This post didn't go through this morning, just realized! Surprised

First- it belongs to the hotel.
Second, it would look a bit odd if he didn't know what was inside it, and when they opened it he freaked out.

I hardly doubt he cares who owns it but it would be heck trying to sneak it out(it might be even bolted down to the floor) and yeah it might be a head in the safe.So yeah second thought bad idea.
